Interesting to see how low 2015 is considering how renowned his serving was that year. I'd be interested to do the math and how many it is per match for each season.

The huge drop from 2018 to 2019 is also really odd since I'm pretty sure he played more matches this year. He added in 3 clay tournaments and skipped Stuttgart, so it should be at least 2 more tournys.

Edit: I just glanced through his year-by-year stats and it looks like 2019 was the highest 1st serve % he's ever had (only 1%, but still). So maybe he was serving safer and not going for as many aces this year? I didn't really notice throughout the year if he wasn't going for the lines as much.
Fedr playing Djokr twice this year by default drops some of his ace counts. Plus, he served a little better in 2018, I think. As for tourneys played, he played one more in 2019.

2018: HC, AO, Rotterdam, IW, MIA, Stuttgart, Halle, WB, Cinci, USO, LC, Shanghai, Basel, Bercy, WTF, (15 total)

2019: HC, AO, Dubai, IW, MIA, Madrid, Rome, RG, Halle, WB, Cinci, USO, LC, Shanghai, Basel, WTF (16 total)

Did a quick little excel math. Could've made a typo somewhere, so don't take it as gospel. 2015 makes more sense now. It was his highest avg since 2010. I also can't believe how many more matches he played in 2014. Even w/o clay, 2017 was crazy high.

Only 3 more matches in 19 compared to 18 shocked me too.

Federers 2019 season really wasn't bad at all. Its just that his major rivals gained some ground which has gotten some fans upset over the last few months. I mean, he won 4 titles, reached another slam final, and made it to the semifinals of RG after 3 years of not playing the event. And all at the age of 38 years old. It was another incredible season, and if we can get another couple like this I'd be very happy. He's now only about 40 match wins from the record, and 7 titles away from basically being the player with the best longevity in history. I hope Federer has a chance to add to his slam tally in 2020, and also nab that elusive Olympic singles Gold Medal. GO ROGER!

Well sure, of course age is a factor.

When I say "there's nothing you can do," I mean there's nothing Roger could do in 2019 (although, not hitting drop shots in that IW final would've helped, smh). Obviously there's a lot prime Fed (or Novak) could've done to counter it if given the opportunity at this tourny. Just look at what Rafa did a year ago at the USO. Thiem was on fire there too, but he just kept making Domi hit one more shot and he eventually cracked. And that was far from peak Rafa defense.
Dominic Thiem is better now than he was back then. Future hardcourt matches against Nadal will be fun. Hopefully they meet at the AO.

As Fedr fans, we often think that he can't convert BPs (he fails many of them). The feeling is accurately put by the tweet from a Swiss fan below. But the reality is that this 'youngster' Fedr is nothing if not consistent, even after 21 years on tour:

BUT... fear not Fedr fans, for this youngster still has many years to improve this stat (or lower it).
Never-enderer is just getting started, beginning from 2020 ;):

edit: p.s. @Lleytonstation , his 2019 BPs converstion stat is actually a little higher than 2017(!). That was a 7-titles season (2 slams) in 2017 vs. this year's 4 titles (almost 6), no slams. This further supports what I said before about how close Fedr was this year to a 2-3 slam year, and that 2020 should be positive. If he doesn't end 2020 as top 5 (your worry), and at least 2 deep slam runs, I'd be shocked.

Congrats Roger.

TLDR: 55,000 Uncirculated Coins to be produced in the first batch, and the Mint will produce 40k more if they sell out. Later in 2020, a proof version and Gold 50 piece will be released. You can pre-order the uncirculated now.

Incredible honor for Roger. I will be trying to pickup the proof coin in 2020. Right now, the preorder website is down, and I am sure they are "sold out".

Something I always wondered:

During semis RG 2011 when Roger hits the famoud sliding block backhand winner up the line, there is an audible "woah" from one of the players.

Is that Federer or Djokovic?

Djokovic. He was still applauding opponents shots then quite a bit, just as Agassi used to do early in his career.

You're all absolutely right!
When it boils down to it, Fedr is just...

That last pic. Man, 10 years ago I would have said Fed was unattractive, and my wife agreed. Now, Fed is like a George Clooney type of good looking man.

He is getting more attractive the older he gets. Now my wife thinks Fed and Rafa are hot. Whats next, she will find Djoker attractive?
