Yup. The nature of tennis today prevents the top players from going all out in doubles more often, and for me that means very little interest because I know that the players I'm usually watching in doubles, even the winners, are not really the best.
Doubles in a nutshell. Even the best players are really just hacks who can't cut it in singles.

I wonder how the new Green Set surface will play.
I already posted this in the Novak News Thread, but will cut and paste here:

----------------------
ESPN had a Podcast yesterday which was really good. They had Brad Gilbert and Roddick on. Roddick was asked about the court speed at the AO. I'm paraphrasing, but this is essentially what he said (after explaining he has 'people in the know' who have been on Laver Arena):

"From what I'm hearing, the Aussie O will be a medium fast, medium bounce court with a little more of a squishy component. You can slide easier on it that in the past few years. It won't reward the huge servers and it won't reward those who love clay. The man who dominates medium-fast courts is Djokovic and based on the court, I pick him to win it again."

Thx for the info!

Even though Roddick picked Djokr for AO20, to me, this is good news for Fedr. As long as 'slow' and 'high-bouncing' is not in the equation, Fedr will have his chances, always, and especially on hc. Based on the last 3 Fedovic meetings, I think Fedr is the slightly better player overall, even though he only won 1/3 of the matches. This is bc all the sets Fedr took were won convincingly, by at least one break of serve. But all sets Djokr won were in TBs. This suggests that Djokr is slipping by alot (the best return in history, no?), while Fedr barely declined since 2017, if at all (2019-Fedr had a much better year than 2018-Fedr).

Happy New Years, Old Man fans!

Look at the four's leg-difference .
The thing that always stood out for me when seeing Fed in person is how enormous his legs are. Murray had huge legs too but somehow it fit better on his frame because Andy is taller and built larger than Roger.

Did anyone notice Fed's shoes have the RF log on them!? :)

It's not just the size. It's that fact of how lean his legs are compared to the 3 Swiss juniors. They're worlds apart .

It never disappeared from his shoes, did it?
For a while, the RF logo wasn't there on his shoes. But in recent months, it's been visible on his shoes (maybe bc of a short-duration shoe deal so Fedr can get the logo back sooner?). Fedr said he's getting it back soon (around Feb/March 2020), but isn't sure how he'll use it yet.

Can't stop wondering if Federer's lack of match practice will come back to bite him in a couple of weeks. Will not be surprised to see him start slow. But he's probably going to be at a disadvantage if he were to face a tough opponent in the earlier rounds.

Sure, he's lacking 'official match' play, but he's played plenty of matches against Z in his exo tours (5 singles, 1 doubles). I think he'll be fine bc he's been practicing in Dubai and he's very fit atm. Also, the last match he played against Z a few days ago, he was crushing his groundstrokes (see video).

Looking at how ridiculously bad Zverev is playing at the moment, I am not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing. Anyways, hoping for a kind draw at least in the early rounds for him to get to slam winning form.

Z was pretty good against Fedr before ATP Cup. Of the 5 sets he played at ATP Cup, he was only bad in the last 3.5 sets. He was crushing Demon for 1.5 sets, and should've won 62 62. The DFs doubt was what lead to the sorry Z we see for the last 1.5 matches.

Really? Do you have a picture of him wearing Nikes without the RF logo?
Sorry, I should have clarified, I meant the RF logo on the side of the shoes, making it so visible, not the back of the shoe where it's much more subtle. He's had the RF logo in tiny letters near the toe box as well, but the new logo is front and center on the side of the shoes.
