Okay, so with Fed turning 40 next year, will this be Feds last run?

I do believe it will end in one of 2 locations next year. WC or Basel. Maybe Olympics, but doubt it.

That being said, a slam win or a couple finals might change his mind.

But I think at this point, if he can't stay healthy in 2021 he we call it.

I believe Fed still plays for two reason. He loves tennis and he thinks he can still win slams.

But if he can't stay healthy, neither of those will be true.

Very nervous about AO21. I feel like that could be a telling sign. I don't see Fed hanging around at 41 or 42 just to have a slim chance at WC and falling outside the top 10 for the last of his years.

What's your read on whether he'll 250 up to take down Connors?

No. He won't have the energy to do so. Now if he really believes he will play till 43 (thinking he does not), then maybe he attacks 2 or 3 each year.

Don't really care about that one as he already passed the 100 mark. He is after slams.

The good news for Fed fans, is he is still in the running for AO and WC in my opinion, but things need to go perfectly.

Fed does not need to add a thing to his resume, and I will enjoy every last second of his final run, even if it is a shell of himself.

Let the other chase the false glory of a race that already finished.

The hunger's gotta be waning at this point.

And I think literally everything tennis-related for him is a committee decision now.

But I do tend to think he'll play to the last drop.

Everyone benefits.

I think it’s all results based.

BUT - I think he won’t want to process a comeback AND retirement in the same season, so I highly doubt 2021 is it - unless the results are just consistent abysmal.

But that’s not ever been the case w him - even in the dark days of 2013.

So I say we get at least 2 more years barring massive physical breakdown.

Tom Brady is 43.

Different sport, but elite conditioning required for both and 43 is ancient for American football.

And Fed’s a far better athlete than TB.

My wife has brought me food and water each day at 4 pm since that day.

She also took this nice silhouette at sundown on the anniversary this year.

I think major physical injury would be the only reason Fedr will not be a contender everywhere he plays in 2021 and beyond, bar clay where his chances are halved. But until major injury happens, I don't see a point in assuming it would. His game is even more efficient now as he ages.

But some of you guys are a bit pessimistic it seems. I'll be the optimist then. Yes, Fedr will be 1 year older when AO21 rolls around. But have you guys forgotten that a hobbled Fedr almost fed Djokr a breadstick in their AO20 SF set 1? Djokr should've blown an off-Fedr off the court instead of winning 76 64 63 and celebrating as if he just beat prime-Fedr, but he couldn't. Why? Bc Fedr is still THAT good even when not nearly 100%.

So, reason says Fedr will only be better when he returns at AO21 when he's fitter and well rested, regardless of the fact that he'll be almost 40. Age didn't stop how well Fedr played from AO17 to WB19 to WTF19, no? And this extra year older is a wash bc he played almost no tennis in 2020, so no 'tennis wear & tear' was added to his body, if you will. Fedr even alluded to this when he told then-injured Mattek-Sands that when resting bc of injury, she should look at it as 'adding' the missing months to the back end of her career.

Just look at the 2020 season as if it didn't exist for Fedr, tennis-wise. Thus, AO21 will just be a continuation of WTF19-Fedr, the youngster who straight-setted the prohibitive favorite to win that title. ;)

Machan, great post and can't find anything to disagree with (y)

Fed was playing with a bad knee at AO20 and he was able to reach the SF. So a Fed comeback will see him to the SF’s at the very least. I will be happy to watch that any day.

Getting to the Finals and winning it, is a whole different story.

Part of me has always wanted to buy one just for the sake of owning one. But I just can't justify spending that much money on a racket I know I'll never use. They're way too heavy for my taste.
I used the 90 for so long so it was probably just how Fed felt when he switch... "Why did I wait so long?"
