Why don’t you Google “telegraphed” and read the definition. It means to convey something.

As for Rogers Cup, does this sound like he’s committed to playing it?

I know what it means, but you clearly know what I meant by asking that - I was looking for a source. What you've presented is a month old and just a few days back, the Toronto TD said Fed was expected to be there. I think he's likely to be there because of his grass losses.

'Roger Federer needs to take risks and be the hunter again' - Marc Rosset

In a long column for Le Temps, the former world no. 9 Marc Rosset commented on Roger Federer's Wimbledon loss to Kevin Anderson and how the Swiss player is looking tennis-wise. Rosset thinks Federer is using a wrong tactic, as he is playing too much defence.

'I think his game level in 2018 isn't as high as in 2017,' Rosset admitted. 'What was incredible last year is that he constantly took risks to play aggressively against his opponents. There was a lot of talk about his new backhand; I don't think that he changed his game, also, if we look back at the 2015 US Open final loss to (Novak) Djokovic, we realize that he already had this wish of being more aggressive, to hit more backhands. No, what was really new in 2017 was his wish to go far. You need to remember that he had dropped to the 17th place in the world; he could have dropped if he didn't do well in Australia. In 2017 he came back as the hunter, and it made him very good because, for the first time in 15 years, he wasn't the one who absolutely had to win. There were back-to-back wins and, one year after, he became the world no. 1 again. But he lost something on the way: he became more "manager". He won the Australian Open controlling (Marin) Cilic, he lost a final in Indian Wells against (Juan Martin) del Potro. On grass, he won Stuttgart beating no one. In Halle, there weren't many people neither, and yet he lost in the final against (Borna) Coric. At this level, the margin of control doesn't exist anymore, except maybe for (Rafael) Nadal at the Roland Garros. In front of the best ones, you can't manage. You have to play, dare. That's what Kevin Anderson did: he put himself in the challenger's position, he tried, and he had success. Federer was too much timid, passive.'

Rosset, a semi-finalist at the 1996 French Open, added: 'The second question I set is the calendar one. he played the same season as last year, but the situation is different. In 2017, it was a fairy-tale. He defeated (Rafael) Nadal in Melbourne and Key Biscayne, wins crazy matches; when he returns to Wimbledon, he is still on the way. AT that moment, he skips the clay-court season: I understand it. But this year, he does the same thing without winning the American tour, without being carried from the excitement. When he returns, 11 weeks are gone and he returns in little tournaments where he doesn't face anyone. At Wimbledon, it has been three months that he had not faced a top 10 player. I think it's too much. Maybe in the future, he will have to play one or two Masters 1000s, on clay, in order to stay there with the best ones.'

Roger should listen to this guy. Seems like he got all the recent Fed problems covered here. Fed indeed needs to be the hunter. Only way for a dinosaur to survive with the younger guys.
I don't see the Neo BH anymore. I don't see the line licking FHs anymore. Not too many net rushes. Just sticking to the baseline. If he wants to win the USO and beat Nadalovic there he needs to be on the first-half 2017 level.

Sounds reasonable, but nobody really knows what would be the best thing to 38 yo Federer, even Rogi himself.

At this point I can't see what's better for him- playing Toronto or not. There are valid arguments for both choices.

He can't possibly play the defender against Novak and Rafa. Court coverage is less for him. Retreival not his game at this point. He needs to hit it hard and deep. He needs to pull the trigger, take the swings. He needs to take time away, get into their heads otherwise I don't see him beating a near peak Djokovic.
Thats the only way.

As a fan, I can't pick between playing or to not but Fed will probably decide after his training block ends, so most likely it depends on how he fares in his training, if he feels like he needs matches then he will probably play only he will actually know lol.

So I found this. But I dont think he is going to play both Toronto and Cincy. He will miss one of it imo.

Agreed. 2-weeks off, then 2-back-to-back-weeks with 2-MS1000's is way too much. So choosing only one is obvious, with Cincy being the 'water is wet' choice. ;)

Yeah.Imo play Cinci,(if he is in form he have very big chance of winning it) and then US Open.Winning Cincy will give him confidence going into US Open.He has far bigger chances of winning Cincy than Montreal for sure.

He's still listed for both. I know we've all determined hear that he shouldn't play both, but so far there's no reason to assume he's listening to us.
He doesn't?!?! @EloQuent : Destroyer of Dreams. :(

Yes. But if he was going to pull out he would have already.
Well, Murray pulled out of USO17 right before OOP was announced. I'm not saying Fedr will do the same, but he does have plenty of time to 'officially' pull out without screwing up draws. i.e. before the draw ceremony.

Roger Federer lost his iconic 'RF' logo when he terminated his contract with Nike — but he wants it back

  • Roger Federer left Nike for Uniqlo in a deal reportedly worth $US30 million a year – but the decision may have come at a cost.
  • This is because Federer no longer has the rights to his personalised “RF” logo.
  • As Nike designed the logo in 2010, it has retained the rights to the RF branding. But Federer said he wants it back.
Roger Federer left Nike for Uniqlo in a deal reportedly worth $US30 million a year, but the decision has seemingly come at a cost.

The tennis star’s personalised “RF” branding is apparently still attached to Nike. But Federer wants it back.

“The RF logo is with Nike at the moment, but it will come to me at some point,” Federer said during a conference call at Wimbledon earlier this month, according to Tennis World USA. “I hope rather sooner than later that Nike can be nice and helpful in the process to bring it over to me. It’s also something that was very important for me, for the fans really.”

The tennis maestro, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, wore his new Uniqlo gear at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships but was still seen sporting custom Nike tennis shoes.

Nike has retained the RF logo because the clothing retail giant created the design in 2010 and therefore owns its rights. But Federer pushed back, saying, “It’s not theirs forever.”

He added: “In a short period of time, it will come to me.”

I mean, who would buy Nike stuff with RF logo now that Federer doesn't even wear them? I don't think anyone in right mind would pay double the price to get RF products from Nike anymore. Talking about the new products.

On his wife

Federer sometimes goes to tournaments alone and it's not an ideal situation for him. 'She is my wife,' the 36-year-old explained. 'It's not good without her. It's that simple. She is always there for me, in the good and bad times. She is naturally more focused on the children than on my tennis. Sometimes she doesn't even know who I am going to be playing against. I call her after the match and she asks, "Did you win?" She knows tennis inside out and she knows me really well. So she knows when I am feeling okay or not. She also knows that it takes to have success. That's why she is precious, and my team knows that too.'

Ha! And you said he doesn't listen to us. [emoji14]
Good call Fedr. 2 MS1000 in back-to-back weeks is just weird ATP scheduling.
Well, it's not that unusual. There's Madrid & Rome too.

Used to be no byes for the top seeds, and BO5 finals for some of the MS events. So they've certainly made it easier for players to do well in both.

Not at 37 though. So yeah, the right decision without a doubt.
