Commiserations to all of the great Federer Fans here, I feel for you guys. Federer is the GOAT, to do what he did these past 48 hours at his age is simply unreal, he was unlucky, but that is sports for you. He is a champion, and as Djokovic said, he himself is inspired by what Federer has done and continues to do. Federer is not done, I feel he will win one more grand slam down the road, his talent and his fitness is still very very good. I understand it is difficult, but remember, he is 38 in a few weeks, and he is still out there giving his fans one wild ride after another. He will be back, I have no doubt. He is simply the greatest.
I really want to see how Djokovic plays against a player like that when hes almost 38. But most likely by the time Djokovic is 38 he will probably be playing a 44 year old Fed in another final.

Well that was tiring wasn’t it. Roger was the better player, but Novak was better in that one stat that matters: the amount of sets won. When it came down to crunch time, Djokovic knuckled down everything and made roger play that one extra ball, and there’s nothing but admiration from my side. It is no coincidence Novak won all 3 tiebreaks, when the pressure is monumental on every point.

Yes federer has match points. You could argue he choked. But I’d rather not. Both match points, Novak stepped up and delivered. Yes there were points where his concentration lacked. Points where he made stupid errors. But guess what? You can’t change them. No point reminiscing about what could have been and what could have happened. Will only make this loss harder. I’d rather look at the positives. Beat his arch rival Nadal in the semis. Went toe to toe with the fittest of them all, the world number one, and nearly beat him.

Nearly 38 years young and he’s still going strong. I’m not necessarily a happy fan right now. But I’m most certainly a proud fan.

Thanks dude. I'm genuinely suffering today and posts like this are some comfort.

Most Devastating loss in Roger's history. This is most likely his last chance at the major, he may not be able to comeback from this. He beat Novak today and yet he lost. so what happens if novak acutally plays better ?
Federer didn’t have his first serve for many stretches of the match. His FH was crap quite a bit too. The question should be how did it take Djokovic 5 hours and 5 sets to win this. Should’ve won it in straight sets.

Thank you for your kind words, and congrats to you for your guy's win!

You know Nothing................ Look at the STATS... LOOK at the STATS. Federer won in every category... played 2 X better than Novak and lost the match

Thank you Hitman!! Congrats to all Djokovic fans!!!

Hoping Federer still remains a contender in slams. I fear if this is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I hope and pray that's not the case...

This isn't the straw that breaks the camel's back, in fact this Wimbledon has given him more belief. He outplayed Nadal convincingly, and Djokovic barely beat him. Going though those two is almost mission impossible and he nearly did it. Once the dust settles and he moves on, he will have the belief knowing he is good enough to beat the best in the big matches. Yes, that includes Djokovic.

You need to stay positive. I will straight shoot with you, the day I know Federer is done winning slams, I will say it. He is not done winning slams, and I think he will win one very soon.

I can't. look I am happy for you because you've always been kind to me (even though at this point I'll be honest I have some choice words for novak and fed too lol) but idk I was so gutted that I almost just screamed retire fed. if this were at AO or USO idk I can digest it better but something about i tbeing Wimbledon just hurts especially when he had 2mps. sorry I don't mean to rain on your party, im sure you will be celebrating for a while deservedly so.

I normally don't cry when fed loses, I know its just tennis usually I just get angry but right now i'm just gutted. i'm glad to the kind novak fans who haven't rubbed this in or started weak era comments or threads but right now I have nothing positive to feel or say

Great effort from Fed today, to be able to do all this and play so so well is incredible this late in his career. He just couldn't close it out.

Heads up to all nice and respectful Fed fans out there. I think Fed is not done and will take you for another wild ride, victorious this time. He has one more in him, for sure.

Peace :)

Yeah,me too.
How was Rogers demeanour after the match?

Fed looked like he was about to cry. He was destroyed. Barely managed a smile.

I know Hitman said “I’m sure he’s winning one more”. It’s the typical cliche statement, despite being well-meaning. I just cannot see it after this. This was his ‘one more’

Worst defeat of his career. Wish I didn’t watch this monstrosity of a match.

This is no coincidence that the site is like this. Wish they'd turn off the static. We're probably good now, right?

I stuck to my guns on the "silent movie" thing, then flipped the volume on in time for those championship points (it is not easy even to type that).

But anyway, outrageous choke completed, and I flipped off the broadcast.

Watched the runner-up speech, despite intentions. And here is my question to you:

As he seemed nearly completely unperturbed after all of that, do you think "admirable" verges on "sociopathic"?

Hope you understand what I mean. Obviously, all the admiration in the world for what he does... but there has to be an element of something along those lines to tune it out (time and again) to such a degree. And my point, ultimately, is that perhaps these traits should be praised more often rather than vilified.

Thoughts?
@Tennis_Hands

Could be something closer to extreme cognitive dissociation or something. And obviously it's benefited him enormously as a professional sportsman. He's in the pantheon. And a huge inspiration for me, personally.

But I really wish people would talk about possessing that capacity. It is beyond astonishing. And if it results in this level of performance, perhaps it should not carry such a stigma.

P.S. How are some of you not experiencing massive site lag...?

Some Fed fans need help! I thought Fed played great, To hit that passing shot on championship point was incredible from Novak (very similar to the one against Rafa last year 7 all BP down), Fed did not give up after that game he still held serve, had break points on the Novak serve but Novak was just too good, even in the breaker i think the Mini break was a first serve which Novak returned to Feds feet.

#Federer: You take it on the chin, move on and try to forget. I will try to take the good things out of this match because there is tons of it. It hurts, like every loss at Wimbledon. I'm very strong at moving on. I don't want to be depressed about losing an amazing tennis match.

Indeed.

Perfect time to get philosophical. You would think being a fan of this guy is easy at this stage, for years I've been a lot less emotional about his wins and losses, but he still manages to put himself into positions where you want to pull your hair out. I understand it's difficult to get into this perspective: how Federer goes about his business and how he handles himself is truly the sign of a great athlete. There's actually a bit of problem for rooting/being a fan for a guy or a team you have no immediate connection with - it's actually strictly a business, remember? You're paying attention to something unimportant in the big picture. But the emotions you go through as fan is actually, to a noteworthy degree, educational. You learn to win, learn to lose, your heart breaks, you feel great on an otherwise ****ty day, or feel depressed, and so on. I particularly wonder how these guys manage to play without shaking at the biggest moments, I'm no athlete but damn, I feel like I wouldn't be able to get a single ball over the net in that 5th set.

For those of you who are depressed: This is yet another match where the perspective has to, eventually, form into a positive one: feeling good about of the person you are supporting and just feel happy to have witnessed what you have seen. I had a very similar feeling on Wimbledon 2008, and on 2017 'AO (remember that? the day Federer earned a million slacks so you can cut him some this day) - even this day where he loses, the way he lost and the fact that he's still standing is really one reason you should look at the guy and go "woah". Woah, dude. Well played, and thanks.

I thought he seemed quite normal tbh, i thought he would be distraught but he even had time to crack some jokes, seemed fine after such a close match!

Thanks again. Its always good to be hopeful. The best thing about Federer even in a scenario like this is his support group- his family and friends. I am sure they are as despondent as him but they've been the reason for him to soldier on which I hope he does. It would be a downright shame if this were to be his last chance.

Agreed , and Fed is brilliant at brushing away bad loses after that 2010 and 2011 loses to Novak at the USO he went on a tear winning a bunch of masters and the WTF.

I look young for my age. I always have. I've been told this over and over, but as I've gotten older, the qualifier "for your age" sometimes stings a little. And, I wonder if Fed has ever felt that way hearing his age being brought up all the time. But, as far as I'm concerned, today he showed that he is still an all time GREAT player, no qualifier needed! It was an amazing match. I really don't think that one was better than the other. It's too bad there had to be a "loser" because neither deserved it.

I hear you.

Couple of 'em have agendas, and all are angling for something, but there are some good intentions.

This is the most hollow, empty feeling. Someone give me a music recommendation or something.
Even those with good intentions should know that Fed fans don't want to hear anything after this type of loss and knowing the future prospects.
I recently listened to Merriweather Post Pavilion, which was great but the current mood requires Slint - Spiderland or a NIN album.

Yeah.

At least he took down Nadal again. Losing to Djoker (for me at least) is nothing compared to that. And I get that it's all impossible at 38, etc. Shouldn't even have been there... but that close? Again? Again again?

Anyway, had to look up that Merriweather whatever. Looks like a concert venue? Did you mean a specific performance?

I had my NIN phase. I don't feel angry or anything now. Just empty.

It's an album by Animal Collective.
Spiderland fits this empty/somber feeling. Or Swans Soundtrack for the Blind or To Be Kind
