Ok guys so I must have missed this back in October when Fed announced that he wants to play the Olympics.

Is it definitely confirmed that he can play despite Davis Cup requirements? I guess they will give him a WC or something?

Yes, this made some news when it came out. He is exempt from DC requirements, as the Swiss federation gave him a WC. He's definitely saying he's committed to playing Tokyo next year.

Really wrong about this one, and given his age, is really the best old man win in tennis history (his back to back outplaying of Nadal and Djoko at Wimby is also up there).

AND at 38 years of age has won MORE THAN HALF of all points played between the two. Federer has 49.4%of all points vs. Nadal, while Djokovic has won 49.6%of points vs. Federer.

Between the two, more sets won, more games won, more points won, more breaks, more return points won, more serve points won, more everything.

Djokovic wasn’t better at any aspect of the game against a 38 year old man who thoroughly dominated the Serbian champion twice this season. Novak was lucky the old man got nervous and handed a match to Novak that was on the Swiss GOAT’s racket the entire time.

At Wimbledon

Total points: 218 to 204 in favor of Federer
• Breaking serve: 7 times for Federer, 3 times for Djokovic
• Receiving points won: 79 for Federer, 64 for Djokovic
• Dominance Ratio: 1.16 in favor of Federer
• Winners: 94 for Federer, 54 for Djokovic
• FH winners from baseline: 18 for Fed, 14 for Djokovic
• BH winners from baseline: 7 for Fed, 8 for Djokovc
• Volley winners: 22 for Federer, 3 for Djokovic

This is the most one player has been better than an opponent in a slam final and still “lost” from matches we have numbers for.

At WTF with #1 on the line for Djokovic

Total points: 67 to 44 in favor of Federer
• Breaking serve: 3 times for Federer, 0 times for Djokovic
• Receiving points won: 29 for Federer, 11 for Djokovic
• Dominance Ratio: 2.14 in favor of Federer

2019 Season

Total points: 285 to 248 in favor of Federer
• Breaking serve: 10 times for Federer, 3 times for Djokovic
• Receiving points won: 108 for Federer, 76 for Djokovic

Great news. I always thought he'd want to play if he's still going at that point though. He's such a lover of sports in general, I always felt that being a part of the Olympics meant a lot to him. That gold in doubles may have felt as good as any of his GS wins.

I loved how the commentators kept mentioning the Federer crowd and that Novak looked spooked because of it.

But legohead regularly says that the proFed crowd spurs him on. Clearly nobody's buying that BS.

One weird thing Fed did say post match was something along the lines of "if this was the last match against Djoker (or last win against him), but even if it is, hopefully not."

Not sure what he meant? Did anyone else hear this. Probably just too excited and had no clue what he was saying. :D

Have a listen to his reaction to today's match. This guy is a straight shooter. He's a Fedr fan, but he's equally harsh on Fedr as he is positive. Actually, he's fair and tough to all 3 of Fedalovic.

Never has there been a player who’s brushed aside so many heart breaking losses. Look what happened to Coria after the 2004 RG Final.

First of all, not many can put themselves in that position since most lose either easily or without being in a winning position when they lose. Federer when playing really well destroys you and when playing well or decently will have a chance to win every match even at age 38 because of his complete game on all surfaces.

Today...he just stood roughly on that baseline daring Djokovic to go for angles and lines and Djokovic couldn’t do it. Not sure if the balls are lighter here or want, but that’s the hardest he’s served all year.

I think he was just amped up to throw everything he had at Novak. The conditions are identical to the past 2 matches and he wasn't hitting anywhere near that hard against Thiem or Berr.

Fed made an interesting comment to the Swiss press yesterday:

"I don't care if I'm a favorite, it's clear: after this victory (over Djokovic), I reach the semifinals with a lot of confidence. But I don't dream of the title yet. If somebody is better, I can accept that. What I can not accept is: play carefully and then lose. "

I wonder if he's reflecting on the Wimbledon loss at the end of his remarks?

Interesting he said that. I wonder if that was why he was consistently clocking serves in the 120-128(?) mph range. In the past, he said that he 'chose' to go for more accurate serves instead of faster ones. That's why it was rare to see Fedr's serve consistently go past 120 mph, let alone past 125mph. Against Djokr in this match, Fedr's serve was both fast AND accurate. And it's not as if Djokr served poorly bc his 1st serve % was higher than Fedr's. Fedr's 1st serve % was 73% while Djokr was at 74%!, yet he stood no chance. That was a crazy performance from Fedr against a pretty good Djokr. Djokr needed to be in top form to have an even chance against this Fedr.

With serving like that, and the decision to up the speed, Fedr might be onto something, and we're about to witness another dominant Fedr period?

This edition is so unpredictable, anything can happen. But as things stand, Thiem for me is the favourite, followed by Fed, Tsitsipas and Zverev respectively.

Very easy to tell Fed played it safe/careful with the two first serves after 40-15 and paid the ultimate price.

The radar gun being inflated has been talked about a bunch this tournament. I wouldn't read too much into the MPH numbers.
