Some stats.

Current Federer's advantage over Nadal and Djokovic (+4) is the smallest in last 16 years.

After Roland Garros 2004 it was +2 over Nadal (2-0) and +2 over Djokovic (2-0).

The biggest advantage was after AO'10 years ago (+25)
+10 over Nadal (16-6)
+15 over Djokovic (16-1)

Hard to believe two years ago it was +12!

What a frustrating final to watch.
This is not to be caustic at all, but if you had mentally accepted that Thiem would be unable to hold his nerves in the match, then there's no frustration, just validation. It's only frustrating if you entertained the prospect that Thiem had more than a 12-15% chance of winning that final. He never had that much of a chance unless Novak had broken a leg.

It wouldn't have mattered if Domi had been serving for it in the fourth at 5-2, he wouldn't have held his serve. Nor in the fifth, nor would he ever have been in a position to actually win the match. I like Thiem as a person, but he's a supreme choker. He'll win slams once Nadal/Djokovic retire. Who really believed Djokovic's claims that he was "low on energy" and had his minions deliver dates, water bottles and energy gel to him throughout the meat of the match? All gamesmanship, but that's irrelevant. He's playing a guy in his physical prime who couldn't get over the finish line in a slam and eloquently demonstrated that Sunday.

I never believed. But I wanted to. Lied to myself for a little bit during the match.

I didn't visit this website for almost 2 months after Rafa won New York Challenger for the 4th time because I knew it'd be too much to take. Djoker winning doesn't bother me. He, at least in this decade, didn't take regular breaks like Rafa (check out his post-USO schedule every year since 2005) & his quasi-psychosomatic injuries. In a way it's harder to win against weaker competition because it's harder to keep motivation up but Good Lord the utter classlessness in the main board is just too much.

Gives 100% credence to my theory that there are only two kinds of tennis fans: Roger Federer fans & anti-Roger Federer fans.:laughing:

P.S: Moderators of this thread: if you think this will invite other fans into this thread (there are already a few troll posts), please delete this post.

Fedr, you do you...

Fedr:
1) «When I visited our first project in Port Elizabeth, it was a culture shock. They also had projects for children with cancer. I can remember seeing terminally ill children lying in their beds. I wasn't prepared for that. That shook me up. Today I see it differently. (...)

2) I keep meeting people whose last wish is to meet me. I find it important for those who have this desire. But also for their environment. I'm not so shocked anymore. I know: I'm trying to help. That is all I can do. Like with the foundation. (...)

3) I only get emotional when I look back and think about how much more difficult it is for children in Africa, for example. It only has to do with where you were born. It is pure luck that we grew up in Switzerland. That's why I think you should help each other.»

4) «I am sometimes misused for certain purposes. When I help one person, I am criticized for not doing it with others. I have reached a point where I have to think carefully about what I am doing. But I also have to be able to overlook criticism. I can't be everywhere. (...)

5) I am aware that I can make a difference, take the microphone and address certain things. But I can't do that all the time. It is important that you choose the right things at the right time and get your message across in a fair way. Not by attacking others. (...)

6) I know I can make a difference with my popularity. For others, for the planet, for the animals. And I think it's good what has been triggered recently regarding collective consciousness.»

7) «If I had listened to everyone who had something to criticize, I would not have gone to South America. I would no longer travel to half of the countries. I would have stopped long ago. In South America it was about making people happy who hardly see tennis. (...)

8) I am in the entertainment business. It was a magical trip for me. It was emotional, exhausting, but beautiful. I have to be able to deal with critics. Sometimes I have to be able to say: Sorry, I don't care what they say. I was not on a political trip.»

9) «It's very stimulating to spend time with people as brilliant as Bill Gates. I feel very small next to Gates, but I can learn a lot. Such encounters take me further. But you have to listen carefully, be very attentive, understand quickly.»

10) «I'm always happy to go to Africa because I haven't spent enough time there in the past 20, 25 years. But I can't be anywhere. When I arrive in South Africa, there is great anticipation. It is a special feeling that I cannot describe exactly.»

Anyone else watching the exo? It's about to start! It looks like there's a lot of empty seats.

Edit: Looks like there will an extended pre-match singing show. o_O Doubles with Bill Gates coming up first, before the singles match.

Rafa says he started his foundation because "there's a lot of people suffering in the world, so I want to give them some opportunity, I want to help." Great answer.

I'm guessing the rows in the from are empty bc it's below court height? It doesn't make sense for them to fully be empty with not a single spectator in those rows.

Lol at Federer playing harder on crucial points. Can’t eliminate the competitiveness in him
Edit: looks like they are both doing it now
