Or else he's done. If the knee isn't better after 1.5 years, it's not getting better post-40.If he’s not training or doing any on court practice then his knee is still a problem.
If thats the case then what a monumental effort it was from him to get up for wimbledon and make the quarters.Or else he's done. If the knee isn't better after 1.5 years, it's not getting better post-40.
Indeed it is monumental and speaks volumes of how talented Federer truly is. Making the QF in Wimbledon and 4th round at RG (beating Cilic no less) speaks volumes of his legend. If thats the case then what a monumental effort it was from him to get up for wimbledon and make the quarters.
Agreed.Indeed it is monumental and speaks volumes of how talented Federer truly is. Making the QF in Wimbledon and 4th round at RG (beating Cilic no less) speaks volumes of his legend.
I agree. Simple common sense tells me Fed is finished. Hope for sake of his legend he goes out in a befitting way, his last match not being a bagel loss to some one like Hurcasz.Or else he's done. If the knee isn't better after 1.5 years, it's not getting better post-40.
Nah. He will play 22 but it will not be pretty at times. But he is not pulling a sampras.Roger is done. He will put out a statement in the coming days about how sad he is not to be able to play the US Open. Then he will probably play doubles or something at Laver Cup or maybe not even that. He will say he's going to try and be 100% for the beginning of 2022, but that is just for sponsors and tournaments because reality is his body is done. Then he will come out with a statement at the end of this year or the beginning of next year stating that he's retiring because his body won't let him train properly anymore. There you go folks. That is what's coming I promise you that. I've seen it to many times from federer.
Yeah I think this is the schedule he will play next yr as well. Then it will be the end hopefully he’s knee recovers get the send off he deserves.I think 2022 will be a fine farewell year, my estimate is what I expected for 2021 pre-pandemic.
ATP Cup
AO
MI
IW
Halle
WMB
CIN
USO
SHG
Basel
A nice round 10 tournaments to boot. He'll get favorable draws regardless of ranking.
Could see him skipping three of those and replace it with FO.Yeah I think this is the schedule he will play next yr as well. Then it will be the end hopefully he’s knee recovers get the send off he deserves.
Yes maybe not Shanghai maybe one FO lead up I think FO will be there actually works well for him leading into wimbyCould see him skipping three of those and replace it with FO.
The three I don't see him playing is Shanghai, Miami, and ATP cup.

Add to that his last slam final was 2019 Wimbledon.Time to arrange his farewell tour, hopefully for 2022.
It would be very sad he was bageled in his last professionally played set.

Wangs said it perfectly.Lets not overinterpret his words. What he said was very straightforward. He is having surgery and he understands its very unlikely (“glimmer of hope”) he will be back to contend for titles. But he will try and hopefully be back on court if he recovers well enough (“some shape or form”) for a farewell tour or tournament. I think we will see him again on court, not as a contender but to say goodbye.
Father Time sends him packing in straights and no wonder, he is not a robot after all.I think he needs to quit tennis for good in order for that knee to be 100% healed, that's how serios the problem is.No problem, he was competitive till amost 38Glimmer of hope is not good. But still think he plays Halle, WC, and Basel next year. But he is retired in thE sense.
He seems to know it and accepting it.
It will bother me with this akward goodbye. But if he thinks that is what is best good for him.Father Time sends him packing in straights and no wonder, he is not a robot after all.I think he needs to quit tennis for good in order for that knee to be 100% healed, that's how serios the problem is.No problem, he was competitive till amost 38
I can't have that WC loss being the end and not knowing it. I can't.Horrible news and possibly the worst thing ever. But anyways it's been one hell of a ride. Let's hope we get to see him again on court. But I for one am resigned to the fact that it is the end.
I know, but it is how it is He was unlucky in the end, but there is more in life than tennis. It will bother me with this akward goodbye. But if he thinks that is what is best good for him.
But I wanted that moment.
AO will not happen. He was on crutches 2 months after the first two meniscus surgeries and then could do no training (on court or in the gym) for 4 months after that. So if Fed has his knee surgery tomorrow, the earliest he will even hit a tennis ball will be mid-February, 2022.I was certain he'd be taking the rest of the season off to recover, a la 2016 when his knee still wasn't totally healed from his January surgery and just needed extended rehab.
But not this, I didn't see another surgery coming. Now we're right back to where we were last year. He might not be built back up in time for Australia again.
As you know, Roger has never retired from a single match in his pro career, unlike another ATG who has retired in all of the slams, some of them multiple times. It's one of the most underrated aspects of Roger's amazing career. What’s amazing is that to perhaps his last match ever, he didn’t go out the coward’s way by retiring to avoid the 6-0 set.
Nice to see him smiling. Seems to be enjoying his outside life more and more. Don't think tennis is really on his mind anymore.
Why would he? He accomplished everything. Dont think the motivation is there anymore.Nice to see him smiling. Seems to be enjoying his outside life more and more. Don't think tennis is really on his mind anymore.
Yeah, there is a possibility that he finally decided to let it go.His body is not cooperating anymore, so it's understandable.Nice to see him smiling. Seems to be enjoying his outside life more and more. Don't think tennis is really on his mind anymore.

Absolutely and at the end of the day it's tough to play while continuing to struggle physically, that's not fun anymore.I mean, had his body been ok, well he could have played for as long as Ken Rosewall did, that if the passion would still be thereI honestly think if there were a way out for him, this would be it right here. He doesn't owe anyone a farewell tour, if he does, it's to himself only.
I'll obviously be sad if he were to retire like this, but time will heal, it's maybe the most reasonable decision if he's currently happy with his non-tennis life.
I'm not saying tennis is on his mind but also Federer seems like he always was a positive smiley guy outside of tennis. Especially after 2016 when he probably had thought a lot about how this could be it and became less focused on winning, he didn't seem to sulk for extended periods of time even when things weren't that great with his game. He's a happy fullfilled person without tennis now, but I wouldn't take it as him not caring about playing anymoreNice to see him smiling. Seems to be enjoying his outside life more and more.
