Federer: Nothing Has Changed

The term greatness comes up when I hear Roger Federer. Just look at what this guy has accomplished and what the critics said he couldnt accomplish. The scale is tipped one way-and with a great deal of weight. You look up and see that Federer has surpassed the great Andre Agassi in terms of wins. The naysayers said that Federer was getting old and slow, and that his time had passed. Look at what Federer did in Cincinnati--he shocked the world. He proved that he is actually getting faster not slower, is hitting bigger not softer, and is getting better not worse. When I look at Federer-the greatness continues. Its like Nothing Has Changed.

And now he has a lot less pressure on him. Every single win is just icing on a very nice cake!

I remember the unjustified beatings he took awhile back.
He was doing the best he could but some of those fans were very hard on him.
I'm glad he's doing well.

He proved that he is actually getting faster not slower, is hitting bigger not softer, and is getting better not worse. When I look at Federer-the greatness continues. Its like Nothing Has Changed.
This is incorrect. He is NOT getting faster or hitting bigger. He just appears to be able to marshal his (enormous) resources when it really counts.

A lot has changed. The Federer of 2006 is gone, most likely never to return. This was inevitable. If the men's tour cannot stop him, time eventually will. What Federer has proved extraordinarily good at, is stemming the tide by judicious management of his schedule, and by taking care of himself physically. Hopefully, this will continue for a long time.

The term greatness comes up when I hear Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen . Just look at what this guy has accomplished and what the critics said he couldnt accomplish. Conquistador, I like your view and I'm very tempted to share it...

However I have a strange impression since Wimbledon: it's like nobody is really in-form and playing good, Roger being just a little bit on top. OK, Murray is supposed to be in good shape but not from what I have seen...

The term greatness comes up when I hear Chauffeuring the Fat Kid. Just look at what this team has accomplished and what the critics said they couldnt accomplish. The scale is tipped one way-and with a great deal of weight. You look up and see that Chauffeuring the Fat Kid has surpassed the great Team France in terms of wins. The term paranoid comes up when I hear Glenn Beck. Just look at what he has accomplished and what the critics said he couldnt accomplish. The scale is tipped one way-and with a great deal of weight. You look up and see that Glenn Beck has surpassed the guys who yell "it's the end of the world" on the street corner in terms of panics. The naysayers said that Glenn Beck was getting old and slow, and that his time had passed. Look at what Glenn Beck did in Barack Obama's presidency--he shocked the world. He proved that he is actually getting crazier not smarter, is hitting bigger not softer, and is getting worse not better. When I look at Gelnn Beck-the fearmongering continues. Its like Nothing Has Changed (except everything you hold near and dear to you is going to be r aped by the government.)

Exactly ....Federer is the GOAT....Even Agassi says so:

"Roger's numbers are hard to disagree with,And then you have a guy who's beaten him almost twice as much. Sounds like an Achilles' heel." Andre Agassi

No, Roger was a better player 3 years ago and his life has completely changed since then. Lots of things have changed for him.

I'd like to join, the one positive about Federer winning a lot is that I get to read more Conquistador threads -- which, by the way, have probably unknowingly increased our lifespans by 100 years.

well... they say laughing increases your life expectancy!

"Roger Federer will undoubtedly become the greatest tennis player to have graced the sport if he wins the French Open. It ends the discussion of where he fits in the history of the game. If it wasn't for (four-times champion Rafael) Nadal, he probably would have won a handful of these things. So nobody would underestimate where he deserves to fit in this game. He's extraordinarily talented and talk about grace on court, watching him play is something special to see and if he does it tomorrow, he'll know what an accomplishment it was."
-Andre Agassi, the day before Federer winning 2009 French Open Final

In a twisted way, I love this guy. I mean, how many people come out here with a target painted on them.

that is how i feel nowadays... in the begining i was all over him but now it seem i can hardly wait for him to post, so i can "grow as a man and as a tennis lover"

as for your second point... i do

everytime i go out for a stroll in my vespa i wear my Ben sherman shirt:

The naysayers said that Nalbandian was getting old and slow, and that his time had passed. Look at what Nalbandian did in Cincinnati-he shocked the world. He proved that he is actually getting Fatter, not thinner, is eating bigger, not smaller, and is getting larger not smaller. When I look at Nalbandian-the fatness continues. I cant believe what a Jerk Sampras is:

" I do understand the argument as being the best ever you have to be the best of your generation and Roger has come up short against Nadal," Pete Sampras

" I do understand the argument as being the best ever you have to be the best of your generation and Roger has come up short against Nadal," Pete Sampras

"What he’s done over the past five years has never, ever been done—and probably will never, ever happen again. Regardless if he won there or not, he goes down as the greatest ever. This just confirms it. Now that he has won in Paris, I think it just more solidifies his place in history as the greatest player that played the game, in my opinion. I’m a huge Laver fan, and he had a few years in there where he didn’t have an opportunity to win majors. But you can’t compare the eras. And in this era, the competition is much more fierce than Rod’s."
-Pete Sampras, after Federer winning 2009 French Open Final

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I Know!! Freaking Sampras talks out of both sides of his mouth . One minute he says Fed is the GOAT and then he takes it all away!!:

The greatest of all time is (a label) we want to pin it on someone. With the numbers you have to give it to Roger; with (Federer's) record against Nadal you might not give it to him. Pete Sampras

Pete pre slam record being broken and still had some claim to a possible GOAT status:

Sounds so nice and humble almost like he truly admires Federer and his accomplishments.

Now

Pete post grand slam record being broken plus being trumped by Feds career slam:

" I do understand the argument as being the best ever you have to be the best of your generation and Roger has come up short against Nadal," Pete Sampras
:-?
Oops. Nice and humble can kiss Petes butt here are his true colors. Signs of being jealous and insecure now that he his GOAT status has been undeniably trumped by Federer.

Way to go Pete keep doing this and diminishing your own legacy with trite and contradictory comments like that.

And then Pete get morons like freaking Bid Collins to back him up???

"It's tough to talk about legacies, because [Federer and Nadal] are both young men. You just don't know how long they're going to last. I think it helps, since Pete never won this, but if the other fellow [Nadal] keeps beating him up, well …. It's a good argument [for Federer], but I personally feel Pete had tougher competition -- Lendl, Agassi, Courier. There are more good players now, but those were great players." Bud Collins
