federer the only one to do so, quite astonishing and not sure anyone even noticed this........behind him is lendl who lost two or more finals........fed completed this feat in 2015 when he lost his second us open final to djoko.........i don't think there is anyone else apart from these two with a record of multiple slam final losses across all three surfaces.........

fed's losses in slam finals,

clay - 4 finals

grass - 4 finals

hardcourt - 3 finals

lendl's losses in slam finals, he completed his feat of losing two or more finals on all surfaces in 1987 when he lost the wimbledon final to pat cash,

clay - 2 finals

grass - 3 finals

hardcourt - 6 finals

Djokovic is guilty for only 3 hard court slam final loses... He handled him mostly in semifinals... 2 at USO and 4 at SO...

Reaching finals mean you are better than 126 players.

See a Slam win is 4-5 times better but making a Slam final is a huge achievement.

God knows why exactly why people are hell bent on losing in Slam final as something bad.

It's against simple fundamental idea of the sport: to win matches.

A player who wins 6 matches ,is definitely better in the tournament than someone who wins say 4 matches.

Get your head straight people. A Slam final is a feather in the cap.

Should Thiem have lost to say Novak in FO? No to the hell no. He was the 2nd best. And as a player that is better than being 3rd best and so on.

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man
You win some, lose some, all the same to me
The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say
I don't share your greed, the only card I need is the Ace of Spades
The Ace of Spades
Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil
Going with the flow, it's all a game to me
Seven or eleven, snake eyes watching you
Double up or quit, double stake or split, the Ace of Spades
The Ace of Spades
You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools
But that's the way I like it baby
I don't wanna live for ever
And don't forget the joker!
Pushing up the ante, I know you gotta see me
Read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die
The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be the Ace of Spades
The Ace of Spades

And yet he has 20 slams. You’re just complimenting federer more and more
Yes, and one can wonder how...

He has 4 win of 14 slam finals against two main rivals... Again... How...

Yes, I know, he is 16 wins of 17 slam finals against lesser players... Yes, he is goat opportunist... :giggle:

Federer actually had a good slam winning rate between 2004-2007 vs bagdhatis, philippousis, gonzalez. This drastically slowed down once nadal and Djokovic matured. He is the 3rd of his era.

The moral of the story, for all the young kids out there is: if you want to win Slams, avoid Nadal and Djokovic at all costs. And vulture, vulture and vulture... Just vulture like a mad man...
Federer practice for slams since Rafole emerged.... No wonder he is not spent at 40 yo...

But, Rafole are too good so it mostly finishes like this:

Novak did his 40-15 stuff few times...

You have to admit Federer is very good at vulturing slams. 2009 won the channel slam with nadal injured. 2017 won 2 slams as soon as his master Djokovic was injured and unmotivated.

Federer makes 31 finals. 20 wins and 11 runner ups.
Nadal makes 27 finals. 19 wins and 8 runner ups.
Djokvoic makes 26 finals. 17 wins and 9 runner ups.

Right now Fed has the better resume. Leads in wins and runner ups and final appearances.

The debate happens if and when the other 2 catch up in slam wins.

Say Nadal gets RG Fall 2020 and repeats spring 2021. 21 Wins and still 8 runner ups, 29 final appearances. Now he has the most major titles which in my mind is the most valuable of the 3 stats (Most Major Wins, Most Major Appearances, Most Runner Ups). But if you look at the depth of the career you can argue Fed is still a contender.

Thats a great record, people see that negatively but it takes talent to make so many slam finals in different surfaces with so many great younger players.

I wonder if instead of focusing on major wins, has anyone seen how many ATP points all 4 have collected during a time period for majors and then maybe majors and masters?
How many major points did all three accumulate between 2004-2009? 2010-2014, 2015-2019? Then add in masters? Or even say 2006 to current? Giving Djoker some leeway as he was just getting on the scene (wouldn't want to start in 2003).

I know ranking roughly estimates this, but the value of the lower point tournies almost seem superfluous since they typically find 1-2 tourneys' they can each win independent of each other.

Pandemic has made the clueless even more so. Endless threads of garbage in order to provide them a tiny bit of stimulus.

says a fan of overrated buffoons band........what i stated is absolutely valid and genuine, the problem is with fraudsters unable to stomach even a slightly different take on their hero than what you usually see on tennis forums........

The players with the highest number of missed shots in the NBA also reads like a list of the best players in the game.

Good athletes put themselves in a scoring position more often. That means more misses too, not just more goals/trophies.

Only in TTW there is an obsession over losing slam finals. So what? Just tells us that he's been good enough to give himself so many chances over almost 2 whole decades. That's unheard-of consistency. He's the record holder for most GS at 20. He's won on all surfaces, won all 4 slams (3 of them 5+ times, insane.), has the most multi-slam seasons in the open era and has been the most dominant player in the open era by far. He also has the record for most weeks at the top. When you look at overall achievements, nobody comes even close. Does this meaningless stat matter even a bit? I don't think so. The only thing it tells us is that he could have won a lot more, which is crazy in itself. Federer is epic.

The real clowns aren't even the ones making the threads IMHO. I feel more sorry for those that like the OP and others similar to it tbh. Because the worst part about it is that I really think those people are the ones that truly believe what the OP is smoking and that is sad.

I would say the moral of the story for all the young kids out there is to avoid such ttw logic in real life.
unfortunately no vaccine and no medication will be able to cure it

dude, tell me please, in how many of those 16 GS, which Roger allegedly won against "lesser players":
- Djokovic did not participate
- Nadal did not participate
- neither Djokovic nor Nadal did not participate
- both Djokovic and Nadal participated but lost to "lesser players"

why don't you exchange the keyboard for a tennis racket and go to "vulture" some wins over opponents in real life?

Fed should have signed a petition to the ITF to get in every damn final Nadal or Djokovic :D
