Federer: "Our job each day is to adapt to the conditions that we face."

Please, drakulie. Crissti said she was a lawyer, so don't overburden her with facts, this may seriously disturb her inferring process... ;)

Don't worry, they are enough oveburdened. As delusional as they are, they took a hit with the blue stuff, that will keep them quiet (well except for some stabbing at the blue clay proponents) until Nadal starts to win again. The whole VB took a break, in order to recharge for Rome and RG. Even the NN thread is "empty".

That's just it, like I said, I do not believe they are over reacting to the Tiriac Blue specifically, what it is really about is resistance to change. What if organisers began thinking it will be a good idea to start introducing a large variety of surfaces into masters and slams? If one tournament starts it, another might follow. It will be the beginning of a long slide (hehe) to who knows where. What if instead of playing one bland slowish surface where they can do their 6768 stroke rallies again and again in every tournament, so nice, so sensible and so safe, they are faced with fast, slow, REALLY slow, super fast, lightning fast, super unpredictable (think 80's Wimbledon with patches of brown and upturned clods all over the place), fast balls, slow balls, heavy balls, light balls, etc? Then the most versatile will be most fit to adapt quickly from one wildly polar surface to another, and we will see real unpredictability in a year. hmm, what a horrifying, frightening thought to those who would rather not see that happen and keep everything nice and slow, safe and sound; seeing it works for them, it is not broken, don't fix it, dammit. We are traditionalists!Don't mess with the established, accepted Order, it is how things have Always Been!

Jelena Gencic may turn out to be so prescient about her prediction of s n v returning, after all.

Madrid is meaningless. Fed is not going to win at Rome or RG when he has to play Djokovic or Nadal. As simple as that. This tournament is inconsequential compared to a Slam. Let him beat Djokovic or Nadal at RG, then we can say who is superior. But it is not going to happen. They will not make the stupid errors that Berdych made.

Monte Carlo is meaningless, according to your logic. Then, what's the hype surrounding Nadal's eight consecutive title if it's an irrelevant tournament?

Irrelevant of whether you want slow or fast clay courts, low or high bouncing balls, whether you like the blue-colored clay or not, the idea that the blue-colored clay has anything to do with court-conditions is idiotic. Only a moron would think that a tennis ball would have different physical properties if colored differently, and the same is true of the courts.

She's not a lawyer are you kidding me. I think she said she studies some pre-law courses. Do you really think that by the things she posts she could possibly be a lawyer?

If the change of clay color was achieved chemically, it could have altered its mechanical properties as well.

Yeah i mean as a surface the blue clay was not ideal but federer went and won it. i think djokovic and Nadal way over reacted to the stuff and they lost out. they threatened to quit playing the event but fed winning it has made it a success so i wouldn't bet on it being changed back.

I think people were hoping to see an unplayable surface but in the end it wasn't that bad and fed won it when they probably though all the seeds would crash out.

I don't think they are going to change the color back to red, I think I read some place that they have a permanent contract with the city to keep the blue clay(not sure if that is truthful or not.) The slipperiness of the surface has nothing to do with the color of the clay, it is more to do with the fact that they rolled out the base underneath the clay too much. If they fix that it should be fine for next year regardless of the color of the clay so Nadal and Djokovic should have no valid argument. There is no question that the ball is much easier to see on tv which was one of the reasons for them doing this whole thing in the first place.

Nah, I was reading that the color of the clay is not the issue, it is too much rolling out of the base that is causing the slipperiness factor.

It won't do you any good to point this stuff out. Fed has complained many times about court conditions. He complained about the courts/altitude at DC this year, and pretty much threw Wawa under the bus for them losing the tie yet nothing came of it,and it was brushed off. It's just all part of attending The Church of Fed. Lol.

But what Fed is mildly pointing out there is that everything is made the same, he isn't complaining about the change. He is talking about the lack of change.

"Did they make a mistake? Maybe they did paint the court a bit too rough. It's just unfortunate that maybe all the slams are too equal," the 16-time major champion said. "They should feel very different to the Australian Open, and now I don't feel it really does."

No it isn't. Nobody is saying Federer has never complained, what he has not done is refuse to play in unfavorable conditions or threaten to boycott an event if conditiions did not meet his 100% approval. Come on Clarky, big difference and you know it.

Clarky, you are one of the more objective posters around here (albeit HIGHLY pessimistic about Nadal's chances). You do realise Fed has ALSO criticized these courts? He has ALSO complained. Fed also said that he understands other players frustrations and they have a right to voice their opinion.

BIG DIFFERENCE between that and saying that "I'm gonna play one less event next year if the blue clay remains."

Lol, I know you're still upset that I called you out on your BS accusations CC.

Nope, I'm not a lawyer quite yet. I'm a law graduate though.

What BS accusations? That I said a poster making comments on a tennis forum setting would not considered libel as they are merely opinions? If you were truly a lawyer or even a law student you would know that. You told me a while back that you were taking pre-law courses and were not a lawyer. Are you saying that is incorrect now? Have you actually graduated from a law school accredited by the Bar Association of whatever country you are from?

Interesting. this place is supposed to be fed's palace right? Yet an article i made about Nadal saying you have to adapt (you know, what fed has been getting attacked for?) has been deleted. must not upset the ******* hypocrites i guess.

Man, you are really upset, aren't you? I mean, I completely understand why, but, I didn't know.

THey deleted your thread ???

Funny how Lolville still has all of his hate Federer threads.

Man I was just typing in a long comment in that article and then when I hit post it said article deleted. I was like WTF lol. Oh well.

Incidentally who are the mods on this forum, any famous posters?

He must have gotten into a fight with one of the trolls, the trolls on this forum could make Mother Teresa flip a switch! Ignore list is your friend :).

I always knew you were a mod. I suspect you are not just a mod but also all the trolls on this site. In fact I suspect every poster on this site is you and this whole forum is an enormous prank on me by Ashton Kutcher.

It's all a horrible mess of entanglement and disillusionment.

Lol i think this is all a part of the matrix.

by the way sorry your long post was in vain! But at least it shows the mod aren't fed loving Nadal hating madmen Haha.

Yeah i mean can we now drop the theory that the mods always favour fed fans? Not like i'm even a troll or a hater of Nadal or any other player.

I'm not upset, i'm just surprised and a little bit annoyed it has been taken down within hours, especially seeing how loads of other genuine troll threads stay up. it seems it's worse to subvert tolling that actually commit it. lol. You know there was room for some genuine debate but it's gone in a blink of an eye.

I understand. I thought you were more annoyed with some of the hypocrisy going around, not about your thread being deleted. But, yeah, I was surprised to see it go. That thread calling Federer a hypocrite is still around. And you're not even a troll poster, so it's confusing to me why your thread gets deleted and others' (you know the ones) don't.

Haha, I highly doubt the mods are biased one way or the other. I do still think statistically Fed fans outnumber Rafa fans on this forum by quite a bit (Fed is more popular in general than Rafa). However 3 of the famous Rafa trolls have 1600 aliases each so in total I think its even :D.

It should be up to the players, but I personally found it to be an interesting tournament. It was also easier on the eyes.

I still find it hard to believe that they didn't use a more common clay surface so Nadal could dominate. They turned their back on him.

Is this the Nadal quote on adaptability that is being discussed above ? (From his Rome presser)

Q: Given that the conditions were so different last week, was it that Federer was able to adapt better that a lot of players and does this show how the conditions can affect a tournament.
NADAL: I said before about last week – its over and I think about Rome ……..Federer is a fantastic player – probably the best in history and probably the best to adapt to every court but that is the sport and tennis… That is the real thing and the problem is not to adapt to the court but the conditions have to be similar to every court. If we think about changing the balls to play every tournament with the same balls for the clay court season and then this is possible but then we play on different courts. How strange is that. I don't know why we are talking about the tournament. I want to congratulate Roger and that's it.

--------------

Can someone explain what he is trying to say in the bolded part ?

I think what he wants is to use the same type of ball for the entire clay court season, which is reasonable. I don't think he's happy that first they changed the balls, and now the courts, which is what he says in the last bolded sentence.

3?, I can think of one or two...

Don't think the mods are biased either.

So why did he not adapt, why did he whine????

Again he whined that is was not fair

Again, throwing a total fit right on court

Again, again, again, again...

Where was the attitude that "you should adapt"? Kinda easy to say that when the court was tailor made for you, and to help you with your ranking.

Many of the things posted would be, as I bothered to explain on a post to which you of course had no answer. The mods agree, BTW, as you might notice the posts accusing Rafa of taking PEDs are erased if reported.

And no, I never said I was taking pre-law courses. Yep, I graduated from an accredited law school.

When did he whine?

I have no memory of Fed ever whining.

You do understand what whining means, don't you?

One is a COMPLAINT or OBJECTION
The other is expressing an opinion

A complaint is a REQUEST for something to change. You want something to happen. You create a CONDITION for you to do your job and play tennis. Roger never done that.

What he and others (including Nadal) do in the past is simply express their opinion about surfaces but what Nadal did in Madrid is COMPLAIN and OBJECT to the conditions to the point of boycotting the place.

He whined when it was dark, did he not? He whined when he lost the AO, did he not? He whined with Novak beat him, did he not? Whined when Murray beat him, whined when Isner beat him, the list goes on forever.

That is the funny part is that Federer lost davis cup to Isner, then all the Federer fans started complaining about the court this and the court that. Then later they criticizer Nadal for complaining about a clay court.

Either they are both wrong or they are both correct.

Laver and the rest of the 60´s pros were used to play under extreme conditions.A parking place, a highway surrounded by military after Coup d´Etat in Central or South America, very fast wood ( probably the fastest surface ever seen)...and they had to hire cars to cross Ammerica day in, day out to accomplish their contracts...if modern players faced that schedule, many of them would have retired after 2-3 years.

Kiki, you make a great point as unusual. Let's be honest here, all of the top pros are sore losers and complainers/whiners. They were all rich boys, and they all have it insanely easy when compared to the 60's pros that had absolutely none of that.

Also, I did not know they played on wood surface. Am I understanding that correctly? I always thought that would be very interesting if that happened, but I did not know they used to do that. It is another natural surface to go along with grass and clay.

If you're talking about the same kind of wood basketball is played on, then it's a very fast, sliding surface. Not much spin, very low bounce. Like traditional grass, but without bad bounces.

Slightly unrelated but I really hope he becomes a commentator one day :)

Me too. Class act. I especially liked the comment about how he wanted to make sure "all the other players" were included in the discussion. Well spoken and diplomatic as usual. Interesting contrast with the other two...

No doubt they had it harder than today in many respects but, on the flip side, many of the wins these guys racked up were invitation only 4 or 8 person scenarios. That's why you see these guys often played each other 30 times a year - practically every week they were on tour.

They were doing it to make money - as they needed to in those days. They don't ask for, nor deserve pity - they had great lives even if often tiring.

not to mention playing 120+ matches /yr and aggregating 150+ career tournament wins.
