Federer Playing the Match of his life and beating Djoko in 5... How much energies would he have in a hypothetical final vs Rafa?

Nadal is going down to Thiem tomorrow. But anyway I don't believe in miracles. Djokovic is winning it or it will be Wawrinka. No third option.

In 2018 itself Thiem bagelled Nadal at USO. He has improved immensely on hard Court since that. Won IW beating Federer, made Finso at WTF beating both Fedovic. He should really beat Nadal.
At the USO 2018 he lost to Nadal. Who cares about the bagel if then you lose the match? You don't win the match for making a bagel.

Yes but there is a difference doing it in a major quarter final. If in the us open Thiem still lost to Nadal and Rafa is playing better now. He’s improved a lot but until proven otherwise Nadal is the favourite. In these situations the big boys step up so can Thiem prove that himself and step up.

Off clay I not seen it yet and even on clay he doesn’t have a major yet. Thiem still has it all to prove. Outside the big 3, only wawrinka can see he has the experience as he been there and done it 3 times. Tomorrow it’s a big test for Zverev and Thiem to see if they ready to make next step!

the main point in the post was not about the bagel but that he improved immensely on hard court since then..if this thesis is true then thiem will win because we also have to draw the attention in what manner he lost that match, it wasn't like 3-0 like today's djok-raonic (or something like that), but more like a tight clash toe-to-toe with 50/50 for both sides..and including this it only tips the scales in thiem' favour even more

Tall, good ROS, good BH, big wingspan for retrieval, big enough first serve. Has the game to beat Rafa anywhere tbh matchup wise. Depends on mental strength and service yips

True.

Many players are better tennis players than Nadal. But you can't outlast him and match his intensity.

The opponent in the final could be Thiem, Zverev or Wawrinka too.

Obviously his best shot would be against Stan who he owns mentally. The worst one would probably be Thiem who took him out in IW and is mature enough to stomach his 3rd Slam final just fine. Zverev would be below Nadal but he's beaten Fed too.

The record for most 5 set matches in a Slam is 4, so it's happened before but that was like 1928 Wimbledon. And I think Fed in that hypothetical final wouldn't straight set anyone. Would be 4 or 5.

At that 2018 US Open, Rafa also lost sets to Basilashvili and Khachanov :)
So Thiem was playing the worst version of Rafa, or worst since 2015.

Fed is unbeatable in the 5th at the AO, he is at 6 consecutive wins now:

2017 vs Nishikori
2017 vs Wawrinka
2017 vs Nadal
2018 vs Cilic
2020 vs Millman
2020 vs Sandgren

Because he finally has a real opponent. Not a bunch of chumps and journeymen
I think you misunderstand me. I'm saying if he can accomplish the essentially impossible scenario that the OP posits, why should he not be able to accomplish another one? Like, if pigs fly why can't hell freeze over.
