My coach told me yesterday that Federers racket is actually Pete Sampras old racket, but with a different color. Is this true?

Have you asked your coach what his source is?Is he in "the know"?
Seems unlikely as wilson say they are developing a racket and i doubt it'd take people too long to notice the racket they had just purchased was the same as a K90 when/if it does come out.

Actually this is probably true for the most part. Federer played with a PS85 until 2003 where he may have used the Tour 90 for a bit. Then he probably went to some sort of customized 90 inch racquet that plays close to what he always played with, the PS85.

Dave notice that the OP is talking about the old racquet used by Sampras that is 85 sq. inch etc. etc. and that is not Federer's racquet... the OP didn't even mention the prototype which Wilson is supposedly tweaking right know to finally sell it to the public :)

You need to tell your coach to join the boards so he could become a better informed teaching pro. :)

He's not trying to lie to you, but that explanation suffices for your purpose. Sure, its not "completely the same wth different colors," but its close enough,m and you know what he means.

Most tennis coaches are clueless about racquets. And for a good reason - emphasis on racquets is not important to the vast majority of students. It only makes them spend more money. Instead, they could give the pro the money for lessons and actually improve their game.
