After Roddick's demolition of Nadal in the first set last night to 0, Federer follows suit with a similar start against Santoro.

Both men only made 5 unforced errors but Fed dominates with 19 outright winners. As with Roddick, Fed too shows some devastating power but he's also outfinessing Santoro on occasion which says much. A tennis masterclass, then, from the best player in the world.

Just a side thought.. I've been lucky enough to see the number 1s play live (well with the exception of Federer). I have revered Sampras's achievements, been astounded by McEnroe's finesse but I love Federer's game.

I was at the open yesterday and saw santoro at his hitting session. It was unlike any other player there because it actually looked like her was messing around half the time, hitting trick shots and crazy spins almost every 3rd shot. Those of us who have seen santoro live, though, realize that that is the basis of his game. That Federer was able to outwit him is amazing in itself.
