Federer says Murray could win Wimbledon 2009

There's been a lot of talk of Federer saying negative things about Murray. So i thought i would highlight this article i read:

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/murrays-maiden-major-title-can-come-at-wimbledon-federer/473758/
Tennis great Roger Federer, who cemented his place in the history books as he became only the sixth man to complete a full set of major titles, believes Andy Murray’s maiden major title could come at Wimbledon next month.
...

Federer knows that reclaiming his crown will not be easy, especially with Murray improving fast. “Andy Murray’s best surface might be grass – I think he’s playing excellent,” 'The Guardian' quoted him, as saying.

That arrogant jerk at it again! How dare he say Murray has a chance...He should've said Murray has already won Wimbledon & I will be entering the tournament just so that I can get a chance to play with him in the SF or the F. ~ Veroniquem/Maximo

everyone in the field could possibly win wimbledon...I do not really see a point in that article, nothing new, special, anything.

Such an asshat that guy is...

Never saying anything positive, always tearing guys down (proceeds to back this claim up with 400 quotes taken out of context from 2005).

Gotta love TT.

I think Fed is being arrogant here. What he needs to say is not that Murray "could" win but rather that Andy's the overwhelming favourite for the title while Fed himself should concentrate on getting past the first round and maybe if by some miracle he gets to the SF/F to earn the honour of playing against Murray try his utmost best to maybe take a few games off Andy if possible.

Sad part is there have been similar posts where the poster was NOT being sarcastic! :?

The draw is out tomorrow. I can hear the smak-talk aready. What are the chances of Murray and Nadal....and Djokovic and Haas getting the mother of all hard draws and Roger getting the genesis of all cakewalks.

Chance of Fed getting a cakewalk? According to experts here it's 100%.

Oh yeah, I think we all know what it will take for Federer to get a "reasonable" draw.

R128 - Djokovic
R64 - Murray
R32 - Nadal
R16 - Prime Borg
QF - Prime Laver
SF - Nadal again, just for good measure (though he would be exhausted from the R32 match, so a win for Fed wouldn't REALLY count)
F - Prime Sampras

Some people would still find this favorable for Federer, but at least it's not the easiest of cakewalk draws like normal.

I know your joking but this would be my fantasy GS route for Fed to get his 15th. The matches would be insane IMO.

He would definitely be the goat then imo.

Here we go again.. Who gives a rats ass about what ANYONE thinks of Murray's chances. Murray is an outsider, maybe a main contender, but we're not going to ask Murray how he likes Roger's chances do we? I am full of hatred towards this 'Henmania' about Murrie

LOL,yeah that looks like a solid draw,not tough of course(only a ******* would think that)but not a cakewalk either.

That's pretty funny.:)

federer (saying): "murray could win wimbledon 2009"
federer (thinking): not a chance if i play well

:)

Sorry BigServer1 see bold above. It's singles vs Doubles , Federer vs. Sampras & Nadal.

A bit patronizing perhaps? I can see it now: Federer, with his "aww shucks" appearance still intact flashing murray a toothy grin in an routine trashing.

still doesn't count as a "real" slam. he has to play nadal on clay, and the grass has to be greased against sampras. this stuff is just green clay.

Even then, if federer shanks a ball and doesn't move up to a 95" headsize, then it doesnt count because he is being stubborn, but if he does change, it doesn't count because it loses the traditon of wimbledon.

And if he wins, then it obviously wasn't a tough enough draw, therefore, it's a cakewalk.

hahahah   you two are too funny!

And yet I can totally see some posters here, claiming that this is a cakewalk!

Why not add in a few more rounds. Add in a prime Becker and McEnroe. :)

I think that's a good move by Federer to put some pressure on Murray. And then everybody will laugh about Murray when he exits (again on a big stage) in the QF.

Epic Post!!!

All the posts have been funny and have me cracking up.
The draw was great, but should not Fed have to go through the qualifiers from now on to prove that the 14 slams weren't flukes (which they of course were).

forgot- If he loses, he is clearly out of his prime and should retire.

And if he wins after being 2 sets down, it's obviously because his opponent choked, therefore he deserves no credit for the win and should have been defaulted after the first 2 sets, but since his draw was such a cakewalk he should have been defaulted in the start because of the shame of having such an easy draw.

People are overlooking this part. Have we forgotten the Salem Witch Trials?

If Federer beats these guys, it obviously wasn't a tough draw. That's the true test. A draw can only be tough when Federer loses.
