To reach 100 titles during my career, it would be special."

Federer is second all-time among male players for titles won, behind Jimmy Connors's record 109 titles.

But he's more cautious about chasing that number, saying, "I will not start competing in all [ATP] 250 and 500 events to break that record."

Instead, Federer intends to concentrate on defending some of his big titles, starting with the ATP 1000 Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami.

It is not out of the realm of possibility that he could be sitting on 99 titles BEFORE the start of the clay season. If he does, then he is a lock to pass the 100 mark some time this year.

Federer's got more pride than that. He's not gonna vulture a gazillion Challenger like events like Connors did back in the day to get to that number. He's gonna do it by winning major tournaments.

Federer is fav for IW and Miami as it stands.
He is fav for all three grass events
He is fav for Cincy, Shanghai, Basel and WTF

Plenty of decent big titles coming up that he can assault to pass the 100 mark and then set his sights on Connors.

Makes sense. He wants the Century but knows his tournaments count for more than Connors'.

But I think he'll pass Connors anyway. 2018 is looking good so far, better than 2017 even, and even if he has a few weaker years he'll still win Halle and Basel until he's 40.

If not for Novak Djokovic, he could have won IW in 2014/2015. Roger loves IW conditions. IW/Miami offers him the best thing he needs at this age: a day gap between matches, and it's very handy during later stages. After that long three setter against Nick Kyrgios, that one day break would have helped him a lot at Miami final last year. Miami shouldn't be a problem for him. He is second only to Novak Djokovic in Miami if you consider only the current active players. So it's quite possible that he will defend both. Of course, he could also lose to anyone in either masters.

In all fairness to Federer, if you remove 2013, when he hurt his back, and should have pulled out, since 2011, he has only lost while fully healthy to Djokovic in IW. Not saying it means the title is in the bag, every year is a challenge in its own, but his biggest obstacle there has been Djokovic. Federer has to be fav to defend there.

Miami the conditions are less forgiving for his style of play, but he is still a contender there also.

You need to be clear here.
Fed Said to reach 100 titles would be special.

He also he won't play all 250/500 to break that record. That is the record of Connors., Not 100 titles.

The two things are different
