Federer signs a shoe deal with Swiss company "On"

See also behind his chair a pair of On running shoes. They're a boutique Swiss running shoe brand which are very expensive usually. Maybe he's got something with them in the works.
Nah, I think he just took off whatever tawdry little kicks he happened to wear to the courts, and then placed them conveniently behind his seat away from the glare of the match court, unaware that a photographer was lurking ready to snap a pic from a totally unexpected angle - ya'll are so cynical, I mean c'mon, when has Roger ever blatantly chased the $$, or even contemplated profitable cross-pollination and diversification for life after tennis? Rafa's gonna start looking after the Vapor side of things, and the world is full of butterflies and fluffy CloudXs bathed in Ultraviolet until Midnight...
I can't believe I didn't see that coming...good work @Bobby Jr (y)

Looks like he invested decent money to the company instead of shoe contract.
Wondering they will develop tennis shoes too...

On are a popular niche brand in the running shoe market and they're very popular 'lifestyle' shoes over here (I live 40 mins from Switzerland). The Swiss wear them like Germans wear adidas. I wasn't surprised to see Roger with them at the Laver Cup. Nice if he's invested in the company.

He invested in the company, so it's a bit different than just getting a shoe deal. Also, it's not for matches so it's closer to something like Nadal and Hilfiger.

Yeah, I know. Bally Champion. But now it's a fashion model and before it was a performance one.
Just like Haillet/Stan Smith.

You are right, he will be a lot more conscious about how the company works and what products he endorses.

Wondering what is the detail about the investment....
Probably "ON" can not afford to spend an endorsement deal but they need to compensate something to Fed.
Give him stock options or share of the company (becomes an investor). Fed does not need to spend his own money. Both of them benefit from almost free money (actually it's not totally free money though).

BTW. I am not sure they will be able to make tennis shoes since their main technology is CloudTec. CloudTec looks good for running but not sure it will work for tennis. Running shoe business is huge so Major shoe companies such as Adidas, Asics and Nike will have Red flag for this news.

Be looking for a tennis prototype at the AO. No way do they do this deal for him to keep wearing Nikes for free exposure on court. I'm sure he won't be wearing those all-white Achilles for ceremonies either. #GOAT

What about Le Coq Sportif tennis shoes they made recently?

ON exploded in Switzerland, it seems every other person has at least a pair, if not more. They're doing exceptionally well atm, so I assume they can really afford an endorsement deal with him without problems.

This isn’t an endorsement or shoe deal. Fed invested a sizable chunk of money in this company.

Seems the only time Fed wears Nikes now is on court. If he has a shoe deal with Nike there’s no requirement he wear them off court.

Would love to see On produce a tennis shoe. I think it’s possible. I just wonder if it will resemble any Nikes that Fed has worn.
Of course it is possible. The basis for every good tennis shoe is stability and durability, and every mid tier to top tier shoe brand is able to produce these characteristics in a shoe, if they put their resources into it. The problem arises when there are more lucrative goals to pursue without going out of one's way just to achieve that goal. A running shoes (and now apparels too) company might not want to spent extra resources to enter new markets instead of focus on their core products. ON shoes are very good, but if they want to survive and expand they have a lot of work before them, as the running shoes market is extremely competitive. They are on the expensive side too, so they better be better than their competitors, if they want to be more than a domestic known brand.

If they produce a tennis shoe (unlikely), they will produce a shoe that will be distinctly their own as that would be the vehicle for breaking in the segment. It is another matter that the Nike zombies are looking for Nike everywhere they go. At the beginning of the switch these people were claiming that Uniqlo is not able to produce apparel for Federer, and so they ordered it from Nike and just put their logo on it. It was quite the laugh.

Think he will wear Nike Shoes until his career end - may be as an On paint job ! Everything other would be a risk that is not necessary.

Expect retirement announcement soon.
Why?
Milking UNIQLO for $30M/yr., milking these guys for millions, milking Wilson...
Can sit and do nothing and make $50M/yr. PLUS, exos like the Zverev thing where I am sure we are talking millions...
He is aware he cannot win any slams any more except if his true rivals break their hips on the way to QF...
Milk it before low ranked guys start taking bite out of him...

Fantastic find ;) .

I think I have one like this, Henri Leconte wearing Hi-Tech shoes, I think it was during the 1991 season.
So, you had Hi-Tech tennis shoes like Leconte owns? Never heard this company made tennis shoes. I got casual sneakers in 1992.

On isn’t paying him. From the article below it sounds like Fed doesn’t have a shoe deal so if they develop a tennis shoe I could see him wearing it.

I would be surprised if he puts anything on his body and not getting paid....

They better have worldwide, consistent distribution and sizes 3.5 to 25 or else they will face the wrath of the Fed/Nike fanboys and be called the worst shoe company ever!

Considering that there are Nike fanboys that complain that Uniqlo doesn't produce XXXL T-shirts to buy because they "like their T-shirts loose" that is accurate and therefore extremely funny. Of course, there need to be a few other requirements met, like to have a 6 month outsole warranty, to have outlets where they can get their shoes for 1/4 of the price, to get a refund for the full price regardless of how much they paid for the shoes (because cheapskates), and even then ..... they will probably claim that the company didn't have its own technology, so it had to reverse engineer his shoes and that all their shoes are basically Nike copies. It is just the way it is!

By the way back in the Uk as a junior in the 80s hi tech were the shoe of choice. Absolute crap lasted 3 hours on a hard court. So did everything else in the 80s.
