Federer Streaks that Are Still Going

There are a few streaks that Federer still has going:

Most consecutive years reaching a Grand Slam final - currently at 10 - the record is 11 (Lendl and Sampras)

Most consecutive Grand Slam appearances - currently at 55 - the record is 56 (Ferriera)

Most consecutive years winning at least one singles title - currently at 13 - the record is 14 (Lendl)

Most consecutive years reaching the semifinals of one grand slam - currently at 10 - the record is 12 (Connors)

Most consecutive years reaching at least two Grand Slam semifinals in one year - currently tied with Lendl at 9

Most consecutive weeks in the top 5 - currently at 541 - the record is 658 (Connors)

Most consecutive weeks in the top 10 - currently at 559 - the record is 788 (Connors)

Most consecutive year ends in the top 3 - currently at 10 - the record is 12 (Connors)

If he reaches the quarterfinals at this year's U.S. Open and next year's French Open, he will have reached 10 consecutive quarterfinals at all four Grand Slams. How do I put this achievement into perspective? No player has even reached 8 consecutive quarterfinals at just three of the Grand Slams.

If he shows up at the US Open with his head shaved (and nobody would be the least bit surprised given his frame of mind) he can set a record for largest number of distinct hair styles worn at a major. He's also closing in on Laver's record for most slam appearances without "arm candy" in his box.

Conclusion: Connors was a beast.

Connors was just ridiculous and his style of longevity will never be reached again.

Think about this... Connors entered his first major (US Open) in 1970. He entered his last one (also the US Open) in 1992. That's 23 years.

Connors competed in *58* of the major events -- but only competed in the AO twice (and won it the first time he entered it). That leaves 56 tournaments between the USO/Wimbledon/FO.

It's just unreal.

He won 8 out of 58 then....not a great rate tbh

Well, everyone can't be like Borg and quit the sport once they start losing majors.

Sorry, I like the sport stars that decide to say goodbye being up there, not dragging themselves

I hate late comebacks...Schumacher, Jordan, Armstrong....they all came back for what? For money...spoiling their careers

you know i kind of agree with you.

There's just something about leaving on a high note that I appreciate in an athlete.

Which is why I think Sampras' exit from his sport, and Michael Phelps exit (if he doesn't try a comeback alter) were absolutely stunning (i'm sure there are other examples)...

whereas the way Jordan exited, Favre exited, and many many others exit leaves a lot to be desired.

Maybe most people don't care about a Grand exit.. I guess I hope I exit my completely non-glorious profession on a high note before my performance suffers or I get fired or injured or something.

Yeah, I agree with the poster who characterized your post as having some hate issues. Let the anger go, man. Life is too short and you'll be a happier person.

While it's nice to have these streaks still going, but it's not as significant as many of his streaks have ended(eg 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals). When all set and done, Roger's results will set the benchmark in tennis. His records is the target for future and present players to match.

Friend, jog your memory..

Sampras won USO 2002 and wanted to play further. Realized he cannot compete on the tour and retired at USO 2003.

People just forget stuff.
