Federer swing path

I think its a very flat swing path. Is this correct?

If so, how does he get so much topspin on a flat swingpath?

It is about 18 degrees upwards sloping. Stoli has the diagrams.

He must be swinging it pretty fast to get the spin. But then again he does not get the rpm of Rafa who has a steeper swing.

depends on a lot of things. on a low ball it will be steeper than on a higher ball. I'm sure you will have a lot of different angles for different swings of federer.

Very high swing speed, pronation, and wrist control allow the racquet head to brush the back of the ball briefly but forcefully without having to deviate much from the flat swing path.

If you keep the wrist firm around the contact it's almost impossible to create topspin.

Take a close look at this slow-mo of Roger's FH. During the early part of his forward swing (0:14 to 0:18 ), his swing path angle appears to be fairly shallow. However from 0:18 (shortly before contact) onward he employs a wiper motion -- the racket head moves upward at a steep angle (greater than 60 degrees?).

Pronating the forearm allows the racket to brush sharply up the back of the ball without the hand moving from low to high.

^yup, I'm just starting to get that down. You can hit a heavy topspin ball with a pretty flat swig path. It's a lot easier to time as well
