Federer tanked to Sandgren to avoid Djokovic

Yeah he's clearly not in form and fought his way through this draw, even if it was easier than the other two's draws. Saving that many matchpoints is quite incredible.

But I don't understand why it frustrates Nadalovic fans. It literally shouldn't matter as they can rejoice in the fact that Djokovic will absolutely devour him in the semi's. Wouldn't you rather see your favorite anti-Fed machines beat him than some #100 ranked dude?

Federer did not tank. He bring his best to beat the #100 in the world, after saving 8 match points.
Well, obviously your being sarcastic, as that was about as far from his best as possible. But I will say that he has not played much better than today in the year 2020 so far.

I am not being sarcastic. I truly believe this is the best he can play in 2020 in Slams outside grass, aged 38. We are not in 2006 anymore.

Federer not only suffered against Sandgren (#100 in the world) but also agaisnt Millman (#47) and to a lesser degree Fucsocics (#67). So today's match was not a "bad day" but rather a general pattern. Seems like Federer can lose to almost anybody nowadays in Slams outside grass.

Maybe, but just a month or so ago he beat Djoker in straights. But you are right, we have not seen him play good tennis (top 20) in the year 2020. But you could also see how his injury was affecting him for about 2 sets tonight.

Ewww.
Stop it right there.
We have seen what fed can bring best at this age.
If you have missed it, watch it below.

I am discussing best of 5 format and outdoor hard couets. That match was played on indoor hard courts and in best of 3 format.

Since the USO 2018, Federer has been losing or suffering against journeymen in Slams outside grass. The only exception is, paradoxically, RG 2019.

Aged 38, fed played much better HC Slam matches in the 3rd and 4th rounds of Us open 2019. He absolutely murdered the world no. 27 Dan Evans and world no.15 David Goffin.

And let's see what your idol is doing when he's 38. Being in slam semis sure isn't one of the options, but you'll be long gone by then since he will be retired. Then a new "hobby" will have to be implemented.

Yes, have the age excuse ready.
Would you give yourself a little trouble and go check the post where I condemned a fellow fed fan upon insulting novak??
You definitely won't.
Because, probably you're as much or even a bigger fed hater than a djok fan.
Whereas, I'm just a rog fan and not a djok hater. That's the fundamental difference here.
It may sound harsh to you, and I'm sorry for that.

I expect to hear Fed's age excuse getting thrown everywhere in full speed from now on.

If I'm not wrong, if I say that "wasn't 2016 queens to 2018 queens the peak djok era? Elbow was an excuse as he couldn't keep up with the field?"
Won't it hurt you? It surely will, right? Because djok had a legitimate injury and a downfall.
Now imagine yourself in my place

How in the world does this response:

Remotely address the point made in this post:

Hope Fed is feeling hungry as he may have some breadsticks or bagels coming his way in the semi. It's going to be horrific to watch.

In terms of overall performance through a slam, your sample size is one.

In this era we can say that having 30 and performing poorly because of being 30 could be an excuse, but having 38 is not, is a reality, this guy keeps fighting and winning at 38 mfing years! Let that sink in, he's number 3 in the world at 38 yo, the best of the best.

Isn’t that what they said about both Nadal and Djokovic by age 30 and 31 and 32 and 33? Yet here we are and they’ve been way more successful than Fed at the same age.

Nadal fans are weird. They should all be praying in unison for Federer to produce a miracle in the semis. If Novak gets a hold of Rafa, he's going to eat Rafa alive and get #17.

That's really boring. What I want is for Nadal to show me something new: beating Djokovic in an AO final.

Sure, both the matchup and the conditions would be against Rafa, but on a good day, a great champion can overcome those.

And if Djokovic wins #17, he'll have earned it fair and square.

That is why him losing would be something new, duh!

I'm under no illusion that these champions are forever unbeatable. I also expect Nadal to lose a RG final at some point.

Playing to 38 is not the measure of goathood. Winning is. Nadal for certain and Djokovic if he wins this event will overtake Federer before they are 36.

Also Connors played till 40 i think, karlovic is older than Federer and i do not recall them being given special dispensation due to age.

Another defeat to Djokovic at a Major will clearly damage Federers legacy. How can a dreadful h2h v both his main rivals at the biggest events be ignored?
