Federer trying to play professional tennis again is ridiculous, the more I think about it

This might explain if he comes back and is still reaching slam semis/finals in his mid 40's. Biology should dictate that you should not be doing that well at such an old age.

This right here is the hypocrisy between how Fed is treated versus how Djokovic is.

Federer had to make huge changes to his game to stay competitive post 32/33 and a lot of posters constantly made thinly veiled posts/threads about him being on something

Djokovic outgrinds players 12 years younger than him in BO5.....on clay......and openly boasts about how he tries to make the match physical so that he gets an edge but he is hailed as a hero who has worked hard to stay fit etc. etc.

Yeah but you forget that Fed actually declined less due to his game style. It’s the reason why post 30 year old Fed did better than Peak Fed against Nadal.
Fed’s game requires less grinding so when he improved his serve he literally was great at 33/34.
Don’t mind posters that say he’s on something etc. The reason he lasted so long was due to his attacking style and Nadal for example benefitted greatly from being so fast and fit on court that it cost him in his 30’s so Fed being so good in his 30’s is down to his game style which he deserved to benefit

Not that ridiculous when mid 30s players have been dominating the sport for the last few years.
It is though. Fed lost Halle to FAA got trashed by Hubert at Wimbledon.
The sport hasn’t been dominated by mid 30’s the last few seasons Djokovic was 31-34 and he is starting to get caught up with now. Now add in the fact Fed isn’t even near 34 he is 40.
Say what you want about next gen or tennis these days but because of court speeds and most players being baseliners it is horrible for a 40 year old. If it was S&V then I feel Fed would get away with it due to his serve and skills at the net.

I don't think so. I think he is clearly preparing for one last wombledon, & maybe his home Swiss tournie, as a goodbye. There's clearly zero motivation to vulture for points, etc. I honestly think he's preparing for a graceful farewell.
He just tried that this year.

Yeah it’s definitely a goodbye run as he surely can’t be thinking of winning GS or even coming back week in week out.

I don't think that Federer has some great expectations .
I think he will retire next year but he definitely wants to do it on court , maybe Wimbledon , maybe Basel but i am sure he wants a proper champion's farewell and he sure as hell deserves one . One of the greatest players of all time deserves to leave with the crowd cheering at him . I am Serbian and i love Roger and watching him play . He is my second favorite player after Novak of course but i want to see Roger have his say on the court . It will be a sad day for tennis when he retires but we will have great memories of him and all the incredible matches that he has been in and the accomplishments that he made .

Andy has shown that challenging some of the top youngsters is possible and for him continuing his career is obviously worth it,
Federer has only played this year 5 tournaments and is 79 on the race with 630 points earned. Murray has played 16 tournaments and is 96 on the race with 521 points.

I think most top athletes in pretty well every sport are on "something". It really blurs the line though when it comes to what's unhealthy or just next level athletic training. I mean, it's now well known much of the 70s Steelers and Raiders were using steroids, and the old many side effects steroids to boot. Terry Bradshaw has talked about it at length and is 73 working as a broadcaster (whatever your opinion on his quality might be). For a long time growing up in Canada, Ben Johnson was the go to doping example for me, but then you find out that 88 race was full of dopers so.....

Obviously not to play the "it's blank year" but when you DO consider what was going on in the 80s and 90s, it's pretty well certain to be more advanced these days.
