Everyone who picks Robredo are delusional or are making fun of the poll. Robredo can't beat Federer and never will in his career.

The least interesting QF? Probably. The least competitive? Definitely not.
It´s no. 1 vs no. 6.
Roddick-Fish will be the least competitive QF but probably more interesting than Fed-Robredo because of the result uncertainty. However the quality of the game will be probably higher in Federer-Robredo match.

Robredo is such kind of player Fed loves to eat: steady but no extremely good shots and tends to stay behind the baseline a lot.

That dude from India in Star Sports said Tommy Robredo's ground game will trouble Roger Federer. However, Robredo will not have the fire power to blow him off the court.

Is he right?
He is the guy who would not shut up during the Federer vs Djokovic match. You can also hear him whispering in between points too if you listen closely.

I don't think he is from India. :)

Star Sports' main studios are in HK and Singapore. I think he is likely a Singaporean by citizenship. Actually Star Sports is an Asian channel. It used to belong to Star in HK, but ESPN bought it over.

Robredo Will Take A Set Off Federer!

Mmmmk...if I had to choose between Djokovic and Robredo for who would take a set off of Fed, I would have said Djokovic. More weapons, more firepower etc. Federer killed Djokovic, and Robredo is next. Roddick might be able to take a set from Fed, but with the way he's playing, seeing him in the final with just 18 sets under his belt isn't out of the question.

Did anyone catch the backhand reflex volley from Federer?

This is getting interesting. The have traded breaks twice already now. Federer has been risking playing serve and volley. The breeze seems to be throwing him off.

If Robredo could have gotten a first serve in, maybe he actually would have won this set.
EXACTLY. Fed's giving him tons of opportunities to stay in this set.

I hope THIS Fed shows up against Roddick in the next round. Maybe then we'll have a more even match.

Fed won easily with 6:3.

Fed has been focusing a lot on S&V now. I think his final target of this S&V game is the FO.

what does he try so hard by S&Ving, when his old self is enough to beat Robredo?

Really? On clay??? I doubt that. I think a more solid net game will help him on clay, but not s & v. WAY too easy to get passed (esp. by Nadal defensive types).

Heavy spin to the backhand really does draw errors/shorter shots from Fed. I wasn't sure the balls could get up high enough this year, but Robredo is doing a decent job so far. Robredo might be able to break him down a bit more if he can get some darn serves into play.

I think so. Witness the shanks which were non-existent in the last few matches. Possibly also the common cold :). The virus has a better chance than most of the pro tour.

Yeah, I mean Robredo's shots are pretty high, but I noticed (before comcast went out, dammit) that he was mishitting the most when the wind picked up.

BTW, score?

First set Federer 6-3
Second set on serve, 2-3, Federer to serve

LOL! They showed Robredo playing cricket. Pat McEnroe asked a noob question, "If you pitch, can you also bat?" Space help the cricket philistines :).

Inexplicably loose game from Robredo at 4-4, 30-30. Federer breaks 5-4.

Robredo breaks back with fine rallying. 5-5.

People can say what they like about Robredo being worthy of his ranking, but he has played a fine match tonight. Granted, Federer has been unusually loose on some service games, but Tommy has played very well to get these breaks also. If he just had a little more firepower or a better serve, he would be a very, very tough player for anyone to beat.

Boy Fed has played a godawful match tonight. I hope he is just overly relaxed and it is not a reflection how he will play in the semis and finals.

is the cold still there? everytime he broke tommy, he got immediately broken back. but credit to tommy, he's been returning well. neither is serving well though.

in this AO, it seems everyone is improving a lot and quickly....which is very nice:grin:

I am not sure what is wrong with Fed. I honestly dont know if he still has the cold but his recent matches did not show any effect of it. Whatever it is he is playing a godawful match tonight. He is fighting through his horrendous play to be ahead and that is the most important thing.

Fed isn't playing the best match, but it hasn't been terrible. Give Robredo some credit; he is a solid player.

Yet he's still up two sets to love.

Federer fans shouldn't worry. Roger knows when to up the ante. He's playing sloppy today but he definitely won't against someone who's actually a significant threat (Andy in the semis).

Yes it has been terrable for Federer, brutal in fact. This is the worst I have seen him play since the Cincinnati loss to Murray.
That is an exaggeration. He is actually playing wonderfully at the net in this match, except for the lapse in the first set. It is not a ho-hum victory march, but it would be foolish to expect that. Robredo deserves credit for making Federer pay for his lapses. He is getting everything back, so Federer has to hit an extra winner most of the time.

On a related note, your alter-ego, anointedone, should be very happy. A below-par Federer bodes well for him. :)

And it's over. Was it a good match? I'm at work and could only watch the odd point here and there. Was it business as usual for Fed or did Tommy make him work for it?

Fed did many errors and tommy tried to get advantage of it-so he make him work for it.Much more than I would have expected. All in all wasn't a good match for Fed-hope he will up his level for the rest of the tourny.;)
