FEDERER RECEIVES DOUBLE HONOUR
Roger Federer continues to shine as the fairest and most popular player on the ATP World Tour after the 2008 ATP World Tour Awards were announced in Miami today. Fellow players voted Federer the winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for a record fifth consecutive year. Only Edberg himself won the award five times (over eight years). And in a poll of fans, Federer for the sixth consecutive year was voted ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite.

Federer continues to inspire everyone including his peers around the world. Congrats to Roger!

Thats a joke.
It does make me smile. He won 26.6% of the fan favorite vote and Rafa was a close second at 22.8%.

Congrats to other winners as well including Rafa as player of the year, Tsonga as most improved, Blake as best humanitarian, Nishikori as best newcomer, Schutteler as best comeback, Nestor/Zimonjic as best doubles team, and the Bryans as fan favorite doubles team.

yeah, the players vote for the sportsmanship award, but what they don't know is people on TW know more about the players than they do themselves.

Of course we do. If we can judge court speed better than they can by playing, we obviously know who is a better sportsman by watching.

Roger's message to his fans

Dear Fans-

I would personally like to thank all of my fans and active members of rogerfederer.com for your help in me being elected "fan favorite" for the sixth consecutive year! This means so much to me and I am deeply grateful to all of you for your loyal and unwavering support.

See you soon
Roger

makes you wonder that is roger can be like that publically, how much of an *** do the others have to be in the locker room for him to still get their votes?

i can say that at the US Open last year my 11 year old son had the big tenis ball getting autographs and this was our thoughts on the stars

Djoker and Roddick and Blake all went out of their way to stay on the practice courts and even outside them when others were hitting finishing signing autos.

Federer was kinda hard to get, he didnt wanna stay around very long ans at first opportunity he exited stage left

Haas was wayyyy cooler than off court.. he actually talked to my son for 2-3 mins just being a really cool guy.

Nadal signed a grand total of 8 autographs of the over 100 waiting anxiously then left without a word to anyone of the kids.

Murray was ok, nothing special, nothing wrong..

Jankovic was super nice and spent a few extra minutes making sure she got everyone.

Safin was funny and was making the kids crack up and laugh with funny faces. Made my son really happy with his antics on practice court.

Tsonga acted like he couldnt understand english the whole time frustrating the kids. He might not clearly understand it tho. i dunno.

the rest we didnt chase down as matches were going on during their practice court time. my 11 year old son loved meeting the players and cant wait to return this year. even after nadal and feds lack of attention to the kids, he is still big fans of both of them.

thats my experiences with them!

It's hard to get to the players at the slams. At the slams they have so many commitments that it's hard. Try for the Masters or smaller events.

I guess it just depends on when you catch them. Some people have good experiences, and some have bad. It goes for every player. As far as I've heard, most people have had great experiences meeting roger, but I'm sure there are bound to be a few times where he doesn't sign for the fans.

im hoping this year to get nadal and roger in a better time period. sadly i cant make miami this year due to work =(

We have met Roddick a couple times now and he always seems to be into the fans. I guess that is one reason hes my fav player.. but of course there is always bias in any decision by humans.

Nobody deserves this more than Fed, so the right man won. Congrats Fed, you will always be a fan favorite due to your beautiful game of tennis.

^It was conducted by the ATP site...If you're talking about these awards. If you're talking about influential list.Times magazine is the first one that comes to mind. There may be a few others too.

Thanks, Mandy! I'm not looking that stuff up though. I'll take people's word for it.
