I hope DP recovers quickly. He played like a real champion out there and gave it his all. It was really anyone's match and he should not be discouraged by the loss. I know its easy to say but hard to pull off, but we need DP at his best to keep things in the top tennis world interesting.

Well fed..lots of missed chances. Served for match. 0-40 wasted. But finally u got it..that matters. Now play ur relaxed best in finals

No frickin way is Fed winning this -- DelPo in 3. Federer will inevitably put too much pressure on himself and end up losing. How many times have we seen this pattern repeat itself in Fed's post-prime period. Bleak day ahead tomorrow for Federer fans.[/]

Nothing but blue skies
Do I see

Bluebirds
Singing a song
Nothing but bluebirds
All day long
Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly

Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on

Yes, it beat the record for the longest 3-setter. The previous record was held by Nadal and Djokovic, at Madrid 2009 (Nadal won 3-6 7-6 7-6). I think the Nadal-Djokovic match was more tense, and a better match overall though.

Taking that long for a regular 3-set is **** by all means. Either they took a ridiculous amount of time between points (hi, Nadal and a bit lesser so Novak) or neither player could finish points.

LOL I know. At best it was 3 hours of tennis with 1 hour ass picking ball bounces.

Delpo-Fed This was purely more longer and better than match in terms of real tennis but it sill was boring.

Nadal was playing his worst clay season and Djokovic was still struggling to beat him.I remember the number of puff balls Nadal played and Djokovic just gave back to him.

God, feel sorry for Del Po. But he will have more chances, if that is so important for him (which, by the looks of it, it is).

Anyway, congrats to all his fans. He did well tonight.

I also love, how the *******s and Samprastards came out of the woodwork, when Federer was in danger of losing that match and crawled back, when he won it.

It is also interesting to hear the thoughts of *******s about:

1) How Federer is unable to scramble through matches
2) How he is a mental midget
3) How grass is boring

great match. The Olympics leaves the wtf for dead.

After one match in a very weak era? Who would have thought Federer against the 4th or 5th best player in a weak era could beat all those WTF wins by Sampras, Mac, Lendl etc. Eye opening stuff.

Exciting match but both players made loads of errors. Nadal was sloppy and Djokovic was nowhere near his best

Cheers, we really wanted to see your sweaty socks, Rog! ;)

The wtf used to be prestigious, now its not even best of 5 sets, and top players like Nadal and Joker prioritize the davis cup final over it. The Olympics leaves the wtf for dead these days. Fed wants the wtf to be best of 5 so it can regain some lost prestige.

Depends on who's contesting the business end of the tournament. Fed, Djoko, Muzza, Delpo is a strong line up and very prestigious venue this time. But still early days for olympic tennis.

Well I managed to miss the entire thing so I'm watching the replay on the BBC website, up to 8-7 in the 3rd now, Del Potro looking good...

Just seen the point where Federer whiffs on a forehand at 15-15, and Federer just stands there grinning in amazement, he's such a goof

Can't wait to see his reaction when I get to the end of the video...

LOL! Just got to the bit where the baby started crying, it sounded like a huge creaky door opening.

Fed completely un phased, like a boss 8)

Or parent :p

[EDIT]

It's still crying? I've had enough of screaming children today at work already, sometimes I think Herod had the right idea...

Practiced with a guy who lost it when 4 kids played on the next court. Finally saw him 20 yrs later, still a nervous wreck like Rodney Dangerfield.

Nope, Nadal should let him win one of the FOs in the next few years, afterall he has so many of them and it would spice things up in the bland and predictable clay season.

Don't let Clarky hear that.

Oh wait, she has you on ignore :D

Saina Nehwal has won the baddie bronze medal, Chinese girl retired hurt.

Serena vs Sharapova starting.

It took me a long time to figure out what you meant by baddie Senti LOL.

While that sucks for the Chinese girl, yay for India! Hopefully we can get atleast 1 gold these games. That would be nice lol.

Federer vs Del Potro images: Epic tale of grit, sweat and tears

Aug 3, 2012

3-6, 7-6, 19-17. That is how the scoreline read after Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro were done playing out a historic tennis match. Just when it seemed Del Potro would cause the almighty upset in the tennis world, Federer— despite being seven years older than his opponent displayed a 'never-give-up' attitude that defines the Olympics spirit. What was poignant though, was the way the two departed at the end of the match.

You don’t usually see Federer like this, but well, after playing for four hours and 26 minutes, one certainly needs some rest. Reuters

Del Potro gave a fantastic performance against the Swiss master. In fact, it is hard to remember anyone giving him such a hard time in recent years. To make things funny though, someone tweeted that Del Potro was clean shaven before the match. Could be true, you know. Reuters

He has probably won everything in his way, but Federer was still unrelenting, displaying tremendous fitness to stay in the game. Reuters

It is hard to find a picture which depicts Olympics spirit in a better way. Del Potro, after losing against Federer, cries on his opponent’s shoulders. Classic— absolute classic. Reuters

And after playing the longest three-setter in the Open era, Federer and Del Potro return— not as foes or opponents, but as comrades in arms. Reuters

Of course! What's more fun than watching a bully cheater and a ball bouncer trying to outdo each other's time wasting? Surely nothing is!

WTF 2008 Murray/Federer match is still the best 3 sets match I've seen and it was the best match of 2008, and yes, I'm aware that Fed lost that one.

Great match and the longest ever in the olympics.
Still a shame the wrong man won but delpo looking good will win the us open again.

You can not have the wrong or right man to win a tennis match. They win by making winners and making less errors and having more luck. They do not win by being chosen or voted by a panel of judges.

If Federer plays against Murray the same way he played against Del Potro, there will no hope for a Career Golden Slam.
