My observations /analysis , set-wise

1. First set, federer was simply too good. Hewitt was playing well from the ground. His low first serve% was his only fault in that set.

2. Second set was pretty competitive with both playing well. Hewitt played a great TB, federer's level dipped at that time and hewitt won it easily

3. 3rd set, hewitt had his chance to break at the start, but couldn't. Hewitt's game was off in this set. Federer's serving was really on. Though this was a bagel set, I'd still say the first set was better from Federer.

4. 4th set, federer wasn't playing bad per se, but wasn't really at the top of his game. Hewitt broke first at 3 all. Then federer broke back in a bad game from hewitt. Hewitt had BP at 4 all, but Federer saved it. Then Federer went on to break him to seal the match.

Overall:

1. Federer SnVed a grand total of 2 times in this match

2. The ball bounces were still low/inconsistent, unlike in the recent years ..

3. Federer was very clutch, saving 8/9 BPs.

4. Hewitt's serving was lacking and with better serving, match would've been closer.

5. Both were returning great.

6. Hewitt's passing shots/lobs were absolutely exceptional. That's why I say he was arguably the best in the open era vs net rushers.

Both you and the AEC forgot the most important statistic: Rusty failed to return 44 of Fed's 125 serves (35.2%). :D

FYI this e-pal of mine got Fed's total # of service points correct but not his 1st/2nd-serve breakdown, and understandably he's not willing to do it again. Let me know if you're up to the task. Here are his stats, in case you're interested (the # of 2nd-serve points should be 53):

1st set - 9/27 (33.3%) - [8/16 - 1/11]
2nd set - 15/43 (34.9%) - [12/24 - 3/19]
3rd set - 9/21 (42.9%) - [7/13 - 2/8]
4th set - 11/34 (32.4) - [8/20 - 3/14]
TOTAL - 44/125 (35.2%) - [35/73 - 9/52]

If you do decide to double-check perhaps you could do Hewitt's #s as well. I don't really need the set/serve breakdown for Rusty, just the total # of unreturned serves will do.

Also since we're on the topic do you have Pete's and Stich's exact URS totals for their '92 Wimby QF? I have 46/82 (56.1%) for Pete (believe that's what @slice serve ace posted) and 22/63 (34.9%) for Mike, but it looks like you have 47/82 and 23/63 instead.

And thanks for posting the full match on YT. I agree that's one of Pete's very best performances. Not sure if a defending Wimbledon champ has ever been so comprehensively dispatched before. Certainly a sign of things to come. ;)

Have been gathering a boatload of stats this week, though I'll probably be putting it on hold for now with the Olympics, work and whatnot. Expect to have close to 100 Fed matches w/unreturned-serve %s by the time I'm done. Stay tuned. :D

I don't think I'm doing the stats for that again !

RE : the Sampras-Stich match. You are welcome :).

I think I directly took that % from the stats shown at the end of the match :

I'd really like to see more of those stats. Thanks for that in advance ;)

I might just start to take stats for unreturned serves in the matches I do from now on. Its a pain though, so not 100% sure :D
