I just read today Federer vs Murray haven't met once on clay which is really a shocker considering both were at the top together for many years and faced 24 times. Although could be said murray peak on clay conincided with federer low phase or absence on clay or vice versa but still 2 big players of a generation. To think djokovic-berretinni played 4 times and on every possible surface currently in tennis

This one is definitely on Murray. Federer was solid to great on clay from the time Murray beat him in Cincy 06 but Murray was awol. Then when Murray sorted himself out on Clay Fed had declined and they were the third and fourth seeds being mostly beaten in the semis.

Not a surprise at all. They were always highly ranked, so they usually could only meet at the SF level, but RG is the worst slam for both, and Federer skipped many RG.
