Thanks, Marcus, for the link.

These guys are class acts. They both give lotsa props.

Roddick's very clear that he's not at the moment in Roger's league -- no one is -- and both offer clear and unbiased assessments of their game.

I'm astounded at people wanting to rag on these two. They both play hard, compete well, respect their opponents and the game, acknowledge their weaknesses, downplay their strengths, and offer their opponent plenty of kudos. Our kids should do so well.

Hahaha, I'm sorry you have to be a joke.

If not, then this is by far a new low for TW boards. Also, if this isn't some joke made up by a regular member, then try to realize that you are 17 (at least on your profile), and you have learned some grammar and decency in your years to date. If you haven't learned these things, then go back to the US magazine chat rooms and stop ogling about how "fit" players' "azz"s are.

Ok, so Fed now has a new shot in the arsenal - the low slice bh passing shot that inevitably draws the volley error from Roddick. Its like he's thinking - 'I know I can pass him, but why not try something different'.
Defcon, LOL! This is just hillarious, more posts, please.

I personally feel that Roger's main weapon over Roddick and Hewitt is intimidation. I mean c'mon... Roddick didn't hit those first serves or play nearly as well agaist Fed as he did against Hewitt. Likewise, Hewitt just seems to have no fight in him when playing Federer. And both of them just seem to give up half way through the match because they figure that Fed is "too good". That thinking isn't going to get them anywhere.

It's just a mental thing for both of them. Until they play their normal game and get over their fear of him, they ain't gonna have a chance.

That said, Federer at his best would still own them both at their best. But at least we'd see some tighter matches.

I live in England and I've been in the Kent area (which is were this 'sexiamybabes' claims to live), and trust me, judging from her profile and the crap she spouts she sounds just like the 'chavs' or 'pikeys' or 'townies' (equilivent of American trailer-trash), whose main ambition in life is to spell as improperly as possible, hurt 'inferior' people physically and psychologically, getting drunk and having sex with strangers whenever possible, and generally be really shallow when it comes to the opposite sex.

Just look at her damn profile and the crap she has in her sig.

Ok, no offence to you but is that all you can say to people? That they are ugly and "aint gettin it" as you say. *calms down*...In otherwards, just leave the people alone so everything will go smoothly on this forum...Ok? Yes, yes I know I shouldn't be playing forum police being 14 and all and with my low number of posts but please just calm down with the "insults" or whatever you are trying to say because it will tick quite a bit of people off real fast.

Thanks Marius.

I was reading Federer's interview and he said that his game matches up well with Roddick's. Brings to mind a point someone made on these boards (sorry, I forgot who), about how match-ups can explain why a given pair of players can have a tough or a lop-sided rivalry. I just hope his foot heals completely - he is far too precious to tennis to be lost to injury.

Also, Roddick commented that he has never had a monster serving day against Federer. Hopefully he has one soon, and Goldfine sharpens up his volleying enough to worry Federer. But, I have to think that he had a reasonable serving day today, because he outaced Federer, something which he didn't do at Wimbledon. If he gets a better serving day than today, then I think he can trouble Federer once in a while, at least in the best-of-three format. Not so sure about best-of-five, because it is harder to sustain that kind of serving for so long, and Federer adapts like he is Borg (not the Swede, the Star Trek aliens).

these injuries are serious things.

as you can read from Fed's interview, he had a bone inflammation at AO which continued through Wimbledon. this might be more than the PF (Plantar Fasciitis) which was reported previously.

also, ARod wore this week the special shoes created by Babolat for him recently. they might have contributed a lot to his
problem.

Well...I didn't watch the match so I can't really say how well A Rod was serving...but Federer's returns are from another world really...I think we can count on one hand how many people can return a Roddick serve with a down the line winner. His ability on service AND return games is what makes the difference, I feel. Most other pros have one or the other, but he has both.

Federer's game is indeed a joy to watch. Hope he stays relatively injury free...

Based on recent history here, I wouldn't doubt that xXx*~SexiAmyBabez~*xXx is in reality, a middle aged man living in New Jersey.

No offense to New Jersey or middle aged men, for that matter, intended.

Either way when the mods here translate the would-be Shakesperean arsonist's remarks and what he/she has "added" to the conversation so far they'll probably hooker.........I meant give him/her the hook.

I still refuse to use the ignore function becuase i think its ********. Unless it really pisses you off THAT much.

Except for an "on" Safin and Nadal on clay (IMO Raf remains an unknown on hards) Federer is two levels above the next best guys. He was scratchy at Cincy through all five rounds. The best he played IMO was against Rochus. Fed was firing on about 6 of 8 cylinders and still controlled the final against Roddick who came in playing the best I've seen him play in a long while. Amazing. It looked like a great 18 year old expending just enough to string a talented 12 year old along.

I give Roddick credit for his performance in Cincy and a very good and solid win over Hewitt who looked overmatched and overpowered v. A-Rod in the SF. I also give Andy credit for coming in as much as he did. He lost a significant number of points at net, and some of his approach choices were questionable yes, but he is beginning to look a lot more comfortable up there, and smoother coming in than he did during Wimbledon. Less awkward. He deserves credit for actually working on it and bringing it to his matches rather than just talking about it like some other devout baseliners of the past.

Carillo quoted Roddick as saying, pre-match "I have nothing to lose today" and concluded Andy would play free and loose. Instead I think that Andy saw this as a real opportunity to "gain" something today and couldn't cash in on it. I fear this loss may done more to damage to A-Rod's psyche than his closer losses to Fed. At least in those matches Andy could take some solice in the fact that Roger was playing like he was not of this world. It kind of reminds me of when Agassi would come thru the summer with all kinds of momentum and then be stopped by Sampras in their next big match. Agassi was hit hard by those losses. I think Fed just shook whatever confidence Roddick had built over the summer, again. Unless someone gets Fed early at the Open, I think both Hewitt and now Roddick have NO belief that they can overcome the current #1 whether Roger is playing well or not.

I knew Fed was better than everyone else but until today, I didn't realize just how wide the gap is between him and the next best guys. It has to be dis-heartening to the other top guys looking for an answer to Federer.

A five-star post. Excellent. Thanks.

I had the pleasure of overwriting yesterday CBS's broacast on my VCR tape, where Carillo was talking during points like a broken windmill, with the quality broadcast made on ESPN Vivo (guess International) by John Barrett and Jason Goodale.

Barrett, like any British tennis commentator, knows where to shut up and this is gold. They never interrupted the flow of play and were very much on the mark with their comments, appreciating both players.

Great post. I agree completely to the point where Ive had the ridiculous fanciful thought about whether Fed is like a 7.5 rated player while the others are 7.0. That is they can stand on the court with him and even challenge him if hes really off his game but still cant win (xcept as said by you Nadal on clay and the best Safin).
