It's in Italian. If someone can translate or has an english press that would be great.

The Australian Open success seems light years away. Roger Federer closes American trip with the third round at Indian Wells and Miami in the second round. Far too little for number 1 in the world. The Swiss no longer the undisputed ruler of world tennis. The long break has certainly taken off rhythm and confidence at No. 1 in the world. Federer managed to get worse last year when he brought home two semifinals in the first two Masters 1000 season.

This time he lost to Swiss tennis players outside the top 10 of the world. At Indian Wells to stop it was Marcos Baghdatis Tomas Berdych in Miami, two top 10 talent but currently still outside the top of the world. Federer has played in America AC alternating strokes of genius to trivial errors by virtue of having lost the habit of playing.

That the Swiss ran for cover. For the second consecutive year requested and was granted a wild card for the ATP Monte Carlo. The tournament, two years relegated to ATP 500, and is no longer required for this Roger Federer decided to skip it. Unfortunately, the bad results of U.S. travel was advised to number 1 in the world to change their mind. Moreover, the Swiss is likely to arrive in the climax of the season with too few matches.

Federer in 2009 as hopes that the clay ridia conviction and victories. Disappointed by the American trip even Andy Murray has decided to play the tournament in Monte Carlo. The Scot had won last year's Miami this year was even released in the second round. But Murray on red has never convinced that we can this difficult time.

I will watch it if he plays. I havent seen much of the matches this year. Also the venue look super awesome.

What a surprise. Not.

It was obvious he would want one, the question is can he do something with it or will he lose to Wawrinka again?

If he wants one he gets one. The TD said at the press conference when the field was announced that he would hold 2 WCs back until the last minute for Roger and Murray.

He's won only 3 out of the last 4 slams. He should really retire before it gets much worse.

btw, doesnt WC mean he wont be ranked at MC, so he could potentially play a top ranked player in the early rounds.

I think he will still be seeded according to his ranking. Thats what happened last year. WC-1

I looked for other news on this, but couldn't find anything. Is it even official Federer that will play?

Is he still going to play Estoril. Cause I mean if Fed does play Monte Carlo, that would mean he would have to play 4 tournies in 5 weeks. I dont think hes used to that

1) Why would he retire if he is currently #1 in the world? That would be idiotic.

2) He will be seeded number #1 most likely.

It makes no sense for him not to play it. He's played only 5 matches since January. If he does well at Monte Carlo and Rome he can pull out of Estoril or Madrid (he skipped Hamburg in 2006 after playing that marathon Rome final).

I still haven't found any confirmation of this news, not on his website, facebook or any other site. Does anybody have a link except that Italian article?

yes, maybe it will be the 'real final'.

I really don't understand this. Why would people want them in a semi instead of a final?

Rafa is defending champion. If Roger gets a WC, seed him first and Rafa second. Or Rafa first and Roger second.
Even with Roger 1 and Rafa 4 going into Miami, they were still on opposite sides of the draw, which only makes sense.

I was just making a joke in reference to the 2009 madrid semi. Many people thought the nole/rafa semi in madrid last year was the real final.

I don't think it makes much a difference whether a final or semi, just that I suppose fed and nadal haven't played against each other in a semi for a really long time, so I guess that would be why. I'm not a big fan of fedal matches to begin with so it doesn't make a difference to me.

They shouldn't give the wildcard to Roger, they should give it to Roddick so he can dominate the field.

Folks, listen up: there's absolutely no credible evidence that Fed's playing in MC. This thread is a pure gossip chain. I may as well start a thread about Djokovic dumping tennis altogether to open a vineyard in upstate New York.

he can get a wild card because he didnt enter the tournament on time. usually a tournament will well in advance if a player will play or not. since federer was originally not going to play his spot was taken. however, there r wild card slots left open for players at the last moment.

if monte carlo was a required tournament this wouldnt even be an issue, imo.

So... I with Augustus, Rhino etc...
I have been searching around and found nothing confirming that Roger is indeed playing Monte Carlo...

so... no, right?

oh damn, they were giving the WC to Zeeshan Ali but now Federer has arm-twisted the ATP into giving it to him. The guy just blows!

And just who loses, Herr Sentinel ... the game of tennis! :(

Zeeshan Ali on the tennis courts of Monte Carlo ... that would have been a sight to behold! And needless to say, can you just imagine what his presence would have done to the teenaged girls in that region?! :)
