2020 AO injured Fed thrashing Djok (5-2 up in opening set) before knee finally and irrecoverably gives out on him.
Even at nearly 40 Fed’s peak was way above Djokovic’s.

Hands down, federer was djokovics greatest rival. Not nadal. Federer challenged djokovic on all surfaces much better than nadal. And nadal was federer’s greatest rival. Not djokovic. Nadal’s greatest rival was djokovic

I don’t see many around hear calling current Novak prime. Least of all Fed fans.
He’s old as dirt.
And like Fed, he’s still great.
But he’s not 2011, 2015 great.
Just like 2014-2019 Fed was not 2004-2009 great.

But most of the slams at which Djokovic beat Federer after '12, if Djokovic hadn't won them, Federer would've. Plus Federer won slams in '17-18. He was in a good slam-winning mode throughout the 10's. He would've won 5 more slams, if Djokovic weren't there.

But this tells us nothing about the relative comparative quality of Fed v Novak at their respective peaks.
By and large, Fed was beating the same people Novak was in Fed's later years.

Thats because Federer was just that good that his declined version beats everyone but Djokovic
And that's right around the time Fed turned 30 and , usually, that's when tennis players drop off a cliff. Especially when djokovic and Nadal were turning 24/25 (which is when players tend to peak) Djokovic and Nadal just happened to have a bunch of mugs who were 5 to 10 years younger than them

People act like players' levels don't fluctuate. They're peak or washed up, those are the only possibilities.
Djokovic now is a great player, nobody wins 2 out 3 slams and makes the final of the other if they're not great. But he's obviously not as great as he was in 2011 or 2015.
Federer in 2008-2012 was a top player but not quite at the same level as he was in 2004-2007, and better than he was after in years like 2014 or 2015 when he was still very good. Maybe in 2017, he reached those levels for a bit.
When exactly? Because he wasn't beating "everyone else". In 2015, for instance, he lost to Seppi at a slam. I don't think 2004-2012 Federer would lose to Seppi or a similar player at a slam.
Just like peak Djokovic wouldn't lose in straights to Medvedev at the USO (Even if the latter is a top player on HC).

Djokovic just beat Carlos and we didn't use age card. He was capable of winning Wimbledon just as much as Carlos was winning rg.

For sure. The difference in those two matches and history in general is about 5mm combined. Shows how much of sports is just randomness.
