Federer was supposed to present the trophy

After I saw Federer watching the final live, it was immediately clear that he came with one goal, to award the 100th trophy to Novak.

Unfortunately, Sinner spoiled the organizers' plans and we were deprived of an incredible ceremony never seen before in the world of tennis. This was a unique opportunity to bring Novak and Federer together in one place, I don't believe that they will be able to create the same conditions in the future (Novak will probably win the 100th title before Shanghai next year).

Yeah there was zero chance of that ever happening.

In fact, Fed was up screaming after every Sinner winner.

Well, not really. The point was for the owner of 103 trophies to present the 100th trophy to a new member of that team. Who knows if we will ever see someone else play for the 100th trophy in the future.

Nope, Laver was supposed to present Novak the trophy at US Open 2021 for getting the CYGS for symbolical reasons. He was there, at the stands just behind the baseline in first rows. Since Novak failed to achieve that, some desk job guy probably gave it to Daniil Medvedev.​

First of all, this is a rumour. Laver is at practically every slam final. Even if he was meant to do that, he wasn’t there to present the trophy for that tournament, but to be part of some grander ceremony for something else. Which I guess this could have been to… but I don’t see why they would do that. :laughing:

Yeah, sorry, that is not what was supposed to happen. Federer was guest of honor this Shanghai, he has been doing a lot of events around the tournament. And Sinner, Djokovic, Alcaraz and possibly even Federer are all flying together to KSA, that is why Alcaraz was in attendance....they are all on the same flight. Now that will be a heck of a flight.

Federer is the guest of honor at Wimbledon and Sangai (not only this year's but also last year's). The Chinese organizers and his sponsors closely connected with China would not miss the opportunity to organize the ceremony like that, otherwise I see no reason for Federer to be on the stand.

The Chinese wanted something special, unfortunately they didn't get it.

We would find out everything is rigged and it is just WWE.

Laver was to present the trophy, if Novak won but because Novak lost, Stan Smith was on hand to present the trophy if Novak lost.

That's interesting. So they booked a private plane for themselves?
I wonder how players travel these days, private plane or commercial. Roger used to travel in his own Netjet throughout.
