Federer will beat Novak this time

Fed has enough crucial match losses to djokovic already mental or not, about time Federer does not and will not become a stepping stone for djokovic once again in this USO 2018 and will defeat Novak with a plan 'if they meet'

As a Rafan i can only hope that Fed takes out Djokovic in an potential QF. Rafa has a better change against Roger than he does against Novak at this time.

Will be interesting to see inform Fed' facing Dkokovic. Especially how Djoko deals with neo backhand.
Djokovic already dealt with neo-backhand (bigger racquet) at Wimbledon 2014, Wimbledon 2015, US Open 2015 and Australian Open 2016.

Federer changed to a bigger racquet at the Australian Open 2014.

Doesn't matter to me. Fed winning AO 17 and 3 majors and becoming nr.1 created so much joy for me, that the feeling will last forever even if he loses the slam record. Nothing can happen that can erase this inner peace that I have now.
Same for me. Federer has given meaning to my life. I was on the brink of suicide when Federer won AO2017. I realized that Nadal could be beaten by one-handed backhand. This was a revelation for me and changed my life.

Neo backhand made appearance in AO 2017. It's Ljubicic effect.

It will be a cracker if it happens. Fed has his chances but Djoko is the favourite. Novak knows how to beat fed in the big matches and usually wins the mental battle.

Fed always worries playing Novak, as Djoko can return his serve and get him into long baseline exchanges. If that happens again, there will be only 1 winner!

Fed can win if he plays solid return games and gets deep into Novak’s serves.. Some of the posters acting as he has zero chance. But its always possible he can pull a french open 2011 SF

But the U.S. Open this year DOES look slow. Especially on Ashe... Almost like a clay court.

Also Novak is getting better and better rn, his serve and return combo is really dangerous

It's true that this is when he officially switched rackets. But, he actually used it for a couple tournaments in 2013 in Gstaad and Hamburg before switching back to his older racket for the rest of the season. He was a hot mess with it in the beginning.

I guess in Cincy (2018) he switched to a smaller racquet and a retro backhand? (That said with irreverence, I never count on any of the greats, meaning essentially, the Big 3. I do give Novak a slight edge - should they meet - but a Fed win here and even another addition to his slam count - would not surprise me.)

Yeah, the odds are really against Fed this time. Djokovic is well rounded without weaknesses, he is younger and it's a very slow surface. Also Djokovic won Cincy on Fed's court, so he has the mental edge. On top of that Djokovic won Wimbledon, so he is in better shape than Federer.

At least Fed has nothing to lose and everything to gain, there is at least this.

I am optimistic. Djokovic is nervous facing Federer. He regressed to his childhood out of fear. Look at this footage:

Come on Sport. Be a sport. Neo BH wasn't there in 2014-2016. It was there only in the first half of 2017. Even a non tennis fan will tell you that if you show them the videos.

Actually, I'm worried if Djokovic is nervous. Nervous means he shows a healthy respect, so he will be ready. I would prefer if Djokovic underestimates Federer this time. At least there is a huge chance of that happening considering Nole is a huge favourite.

I believe anything is possible if Federer plays freely and makes lots of returns, like in the two final sets against Kyrgios.

Novak has not shown fantastic form by any means thus far. Nadal looks stronger than them both at the moment.

I think all of us have seen what these guys are capable of, when they're in the right mood.

If he's playing well enough to take down Novak, be afraid, be very afraid.
Novak Djokovic is the favorite to win considering how they are playing now. There is no doubt about it. If, a big if, Roger beats Novak, then I will like his chances against Rafa if they both reach final. He has won all the four hard court matches he won against Rafa in 2017. I think Novak Djokovic with his serve return is more dangerous to Roger than Rafa as of now.

Well put. I wish Djoker would say this in his pre-match interview, “Fed sucks so bad, that I just drank 10 beers and ate 2 pounds of gluten before this match.” Afterwards, Djoker lets out a huge beer burp.

Djoker needs to be drunk when he plays Fed. Either that, or Fed will need to redline for the entire match. If Fed plays for the entire match against Djoker like he did the last 5 games of the 2017 AO final, then he could potentially beat Djoker in 5 sets.

I am going to send a hot woman to Djoker’s hotel room. She will cause his legs to be too wobbly for the Fed match.

I don't think he wants to lose another big match vs Novak.
He doesnt want to lose but he will.I expect Djokovic in 4 sets if they meet in the QFs.Djokovic is in better form right now.I will be shocked if Federer wins it.

Pluss the court is slower.

Overall slower court doesn't speak in feds favour. His serve takes a hit cause of this. Wich means Djokovic will get more returns in play. Same goes for Fed but his serve is more important for him. Sum total of all this: Baseline dueling. Federer will have to outgrind Djokovic from the baseline over 5 sets.

But both have one more match to go before this happens.

It all depends on everything really! I guess I joined these forums to read and understand different opinions. I’m on team Fed so I’ll say if he is feeling the ball he can beat anyone. Slower court means nothing imo, he served pretty well against Kyrgios, with plenty of aces to get himself out of trouble. Djoker is a completely different beast, and Cincinnati will only play in Fed’s mind at the beginning of the match to see if he’s on or not. Best of 5 is always different to best of 3 and it’s a QF not a GF so the pressure for both will be different. Hope it’s a nail biter! It’s been a pretty decent tournament so far in terms of good matches from other players as well. With no disrespect to Millman and Sousa, I expect a Cincy rematch... can’t wait

Djoko is the big favourite. He has the mental edge, playing better tennis at moment and court conditions suit him more. Of course Fed has a chance but he will have to play one of his best matches to have a good chance.

Roger can beat this version of Djokovic. Rog has been playing at USO much better than at Cincinnati. So yeah why not..

I'll be very surprised if Fed beats this Novak at USO. Last time Fed beat Novak at USO was in 2009, at any GS was in 2012 WB.
At his age, he almost has to do it in straight sets. If the match goes the distance, Novak wins. Now how likely is a straightset win for Fed over Novak?

i don't know what to say, i keep getting hyped of how beautifull and elegantly sharp Roger plays and then djokovic comes and spoils the party big time.... i would like to see him beating Novak but it will be HARD !

Pulling FO 2011 would be actually a lot harder now than it was back then. At that time Fed didn’t have much mental burden against Novak, which is not the case any more. Fed has become so mentally flat and underperformer against Novak that it would actually be quite a miracle if Fed was to beat Novak in a slam.

I’m a Fed Fan so I’m all for it to happen, just don’t have much faith.

He shouldn't even have that mental burden to be honest.
