Federer wins the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for the 11th time

I wish this award would give recognition to some less known players. But it is voted for by the players and Federer beats them all in a very classy way apparently...:D

Can't argue with Fed winning but as mentioned by @NatF it would be nice to give some recognition to some lower ranked guys. My, other than Roger, vote would go to David Goffin. He seems to be pretty classy guy i think.

Fortunately for Federer the awards criteria clearly doesn't take into account the behaviour of his deluded fanboys.

Sportsmanship award or 3 slams/6 masters/YEC/YE #1/points record. So hard to choose.
Fed doesn't even need to choose, he's done something similar to that 3 times already. He didn't need the weakest year on tour since 2002 to do it either.

has he ever won 6 masters in a year? Novak had to beat federer, federer, and Murray. Fed had to beat....who? Baghdatis and baby nadal on grass? Educate yourself.

Put 2006 Federer into 2015 and his record will be as good as Djoker's.

Gotta love that non-existent competition.

It's OK. Federer is just fine with his awards. It's nice to be respected and liked by your peers year after year. You should be happy with Djokovic's achievements too. No need to lash out at Federer, or is there?

Ouch, another classic discussion coming up. :D
There's no discussion. If federer got to play Baghdatis, philipsoussis, broken Hewitt, old man Agassi ( why is this never brought up when people make fun of Novak for beating old federer), and Fernando Gonzalez for slams, you're not allowed to make fun of anyone else's era. It's as simple as that.

Why don't they call it the Roger Federer award? Just please change it to "popularity" instead of "sportsmanship", because in terms of sportsmanship the coach and the player aren't at all comparable.

Djoker's competition makes Federer's 2006 competition look lively as ever! :D

33 year old Ferrer, a done Berdych and a Murray that loses to a 34 year old weak era beneficiary. Not to mention Nadal loses regularly to freakin' Fognini these days.

And what about old man Agassi? Federer is better than Agassi. And they were both old. Have you ever called out federer for beating Agassi? I'm sure you haven't because it would hurt your laughable narrative.

I know but you got some people's attention and it resulted into another classic. :D

I seriously don't understand this. Since when does sportsmanship mean "classy" and "everybody likes him"? I'm so done with this revisionism.

Why not change the definition of "basketball" to "the sport of tennis" and give him all the basketball awards as well? And a Nobel Prize where "physics" means "hitting the ball as beautifully as Roger Federer", which makes the award a lifelong award for Federer?

Agassi is one guy, what about the others? What makes them weak? They certainly weren't old, so what's your excuse?

Gotta love the weak-era Djoker defenders.

Serious question, what do you have against Federer? It's obvious he is your least favorite player of the top guys. I don't see any credence in the bolded statement.
His peers think he's a good sportsman. Obviously they like him to think that. So, I'm not sure why people are pissed about this every year.

And Federer won the award a few times before Edberg became his coach anyway. They asked him last year if they should change the name like you suggested, and Federer said no.

You may not like the guy but his peers think differently, which is all that matters at the end of the day.

If you can't see what makes them weak era, theres no hope for you. All you have to do is look at their other accomplishments. Fed couldn't even beat pre prime nadal. Novak tore prime nadal a new one in 2011.

What happened at Wimbledon between 2006-2007? Did Federer beat Nadal's cousin those two times?

1.) when you start repeating what I have said, I know you have lost

2.) if you try to argue 06 and 07 nadal as prime on grass, you must be truly getting desperate. What was he? Like 20?

So

so...4 sets? If fed didn't beat a Hewitt that was already broken, it would be kind of sad.
4 tight sets, a couple of sets tiebreakers that could have gone either way.

Put the same Hewitt against 2014 Fed and he'd put him away in 4 sets.

Laughable, as there's nothing even lose: The evidence is right in front of you! It isn't my fault you can't see how horribly weak this year is.

When you start citing age as evidence of peak/form I know you've conceded the argument. :D

I don't have anything against Federer. Which is different - wouldn't you agree? - from praising him and saying everything he gets is deserved. I don't think he deserves to win the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award a zillion times more often that the guy the award is named after. To me, it's not fair and is, in itself, the antithesis of class. And again, you misunderstand what sportsmanship is. It has nothing to do with being liked. Do you think Edberg won that award (named after HIM) because he was popular? Can you be honest about it? Can't you tell that sportsmanship means "praising Roger Federer" rather than what it meant when Edberg (and others) were winning the award? And I don't care if he did indeed win it before Edberg was his coach, winning WHILE he's his coach is even more embarrassing, but again, Edberg is way too classy to even question it - he probably feels good about it. The only point I'm making is if it's correct, if it's fair, and whether Federer is being awarded this thing for the same reasons Edberg was. And he obviously isn't. I wrote a bigger post about it a few months ago, I'd be happy to share it with you if you want to know why - in detail - I believe this award has been hijacked into becoming a popularity award to confirm Federer's greatness.

And the insolence of asking him if he wants the award named after him. I can't even...
