Why are people so defensive about Federer?

I know alot of people who don't think Annacone was the right choice for Federer, and they are staunch Fed fans. I myself have no opinion on the matter, I only wonder how long any coaching relationship he engages in now will last.

I totally agree. Why can't people have dissenting opinions? On the other hand, its not always appropriate to label a coach according to the playing style they had as a player.

What the hell does this have to do with Uncle Toni? You ****s always manage to find a way to drag Nadal into everything. I think it may be an obsession.

Bro , Chill , I think Drakulie has a point there - It's got nothing to do with Nadal. But His point is valid - Hiring Annacone doesn't mean Fed is gonna pick-up serve & volley game ( You are saying serve/volley dead - I say if Fed does pick it up he's probably gonna integrate it into his game more smoothly so that his overall baseline game adds a new more aggressive diemnsion - doesn't mean he's gonna become Sampras & run to the net on second serves ) ... Annacone is a great coach - who knows maybe he'll just get Fed's baseline game stronger - the whole point of being a great coaching is to magnify his players strengths - Read Sampras's Bio ( A Great Book ) - He says Annacone was knew how to stay out of one's face - he had a more supportive role in Sampras's game than a coach like say : Brad Gilbert , Federer is that sort of reserved sort of personality that fits Annacone's style of coaching - I personally am gonna reserve my opinion until I see Fed at two or more slams with Annacone.

Now Does hiring Annacone mean straight away Fed is gonna turn into this serve/volley magnet & fail ( which you implied @NF89 ) - NO. Annacone may make Fed very best at baseline ( at his age ) - he may get Fed to shorten the points from baseline or he may suggest various types of techniques - doesn't mean he is gonna suggest serve/volley .

Now Back To Uncle Toni's point - I love Rafa ( he made me love him from being anti-Nadal ) - Now , Uncle Toni is not a great player from baseline , but Rafa is - so , NF89 your point makes you look kinda - how can I put it kindly ... hmm, yeah, irrational bro.

Pah, what does Luthie add?

Extract from a "coaching" session:

Luthie: Rog, at times I think you could kinda step up your practice sessions. You know, less tomfoolery and more intensity, you know, a bit like Na...

Federer: *aborts tweener attempt at very last moment* and how many Majors have you won again?

Luthie: You're right. As you were.
Haha!

He could pull this with any coach.
