Federer's blacked out frame

Yes.

I think it will be a good change too. But it's up to fed how he feels after two tournaments. I believe this *test period* might be the main reason why he's playing these tournies since he doesn't seem too concerned about his ranking or the points race.

I like how everyone here instantly thinks that he will switch 100% with no doubt. I never say anything is 100% because nothing in life is predictable. He could play and find that he's lost the control of the extra smaller headsize and he values that over the extra power. Or he might miss the stiffness of his old frame and might not feel like he can spray those winners like he did with that ultra stiff 90. It might not have the same feel or he might just not feel comfortable with it in match settings.

For all the grief that people complain about his *old* frame. People tend to forget the amazing things that it did for him. His 90 was incredible on serves. And he could really hit some frozen ropes on his bh and fh. He might not find the same execution with the new frame and decide it's not right for him. People should just wait and see and tell by those results. As I've seen countless times how much people here are wrong with their predictions such as writing off fed in 2010 after he won additional majors. Writing off Murray when he was just 25 and saying he would never win a single slam as if he was in the twilight of his years (now he's won 2 majors), and people also said that Rafa would play a few matches after his come back and retire. LOL, he even won Indian Wells this year. Shows how horrible people are at predicting things, and how they just jump to conclusions. Let fed do his thing and then say what you will. I am not counting on him to commit to anything until you see him at the end of a tournament with a big smile on his face.

The End.
My thoughts exactly

Rogi: "The goal is not to go back to the old...."

Hi all

From this morning "Basler Zeitung", Rogi's hometown newspaper, titled: "The reasons why Federer plays with a new racket"
http://bazonline.ch/sport/tennis/Warum-Federer-mit-einem-neuen-Schlaeger-spielt/story/23612879

Interesting is the following sentence - quoted in German which translates to:
«Es fühlt sich eindeutig anders an», beschreibt er seine ersten Erfahrungen mit dem grösseren Schläger. «Bis jetzt ist es gut, aber ich muss abwarten, wie es in den Matches ist. Das Ziel ist, es durchzuziehen, nicht zum alten Racket zurückzukehren.»

Describing his first experiences with the bigger racket: "The racquet feels good so far, but I have to see how it works out in matches. The goal is to pull it off and to not go back to the old racquet."

You can do it, Rogi :)

Oh my goodness! I can not believe some of you people!
It is not the racquet that makes the player. In the end of the day it is ROGER who is the amazing tennis player not the racquet he uses. Just because he used one racquet and achieved a huge amount of success with it doesn't mean he can't do that with the new one.

Of course racquets can alter the feel you have the ball and to an extent change the quality of the shots you deliver but I assure you Roger won't be much different other than subtle differences which will most likely be positive.

I used a 90 inch frame for about two years and loved it, the feel the shots, the precision but honestly the power and consistency I was getting was not enough. So i tested some 98/100 inch frames and everything just dramatically improved, even things i felt were good before improved and it was a very easy adjustment period, and that was for me! For Federer it would be twice as fast.

To me this racquet looks like a customized Blade and as Fed claims it is 98 inches then im guessing it is a Blade 98 weight adjusted. For all you Neeks, no he is not using a paint job ProStaff 95. As you can easily see there is no box beam frame and it is very clear to see that it is no form of racquet roger previously has used.

The mold is either a Wilson Blade or Wilson Steam (most likely Blade) if Roger will stay with the racquet i dont know but it sounds like he likes it. We will just have to wait for this evening to see how he plays with it.

Case closed.

I don't really care if he's switching to a larger frame, but I sure am lamenting the loss of the box beam and the PWS, for sentimental and aesthetic reasons. Too bad it's not a PS 95 or something like that.

Some really don't understand, I mean, when you've loved and lost the way Roger has, then you you know what life's about.

I know what you mean.

Like you, I don't worry about my tennis equipment. I wear size 12 shoes but, like you, if another size is available in the clearance table I buy them whatever the size.

And, like you, if I need to hang a small picture in the bathroom but only have a mallet with a 3' long handle I just go for it and hope I don't do too much damage to the wall. I've also tried to drive roofing nails with a plastic toy hammer.

You see, the tool just doesn't matter. Nor does it matter how equipment fits an individual. For example, the NFL could probably save money by buying one size of uniform for all of the players. And MLB could save money using just one type of bat.

Heck, tennis could be more efficient. Everyone could just use one type of tennis racquet with one type of string. It would be so much simpler that way. Now we just have to decide which frame and string everyone will use.

There's no proof the six.one is disappearing for good. Others want to use it, especially older rec players. It may disappear from the tour, but that's a different matter.

Wilson will now say dimitrov is using the 90 and make him the face of it
Was thinking about it. The 93 is close enough to the 90 to have a slight change of paintjob. Would put some more pressure on Baby Fed though, especially if results don't come. But it would be the most logical move IMO.

Too tight a string pattern? It would have actually been a decrease in power and spin potential.
do you think Rafa and Novak are nervous now to see how this turns out ? Novak himself played much better when he changed rackets. Of course after the adjustment period was over which took him like 5-6 month, right ?

If I were Rafa, I would be very nervous. Think what could happen to Rafa if Rogi wins him at RG next year :)

I think it's highly likely Fed's frame is going to be a derivative of the Wilson H19 (16x19) and as such the chances of this frame actually being sold to the public is minimal....

I think people are getting carried away with the Blade thing because his test frames are black and the blade is black !

The H19 can convincingly be PJ'd as a Blade, however in reality a blade 98 and an H19 (and H22 for that matter) are quite different !

I can't see Wilson painting fed's frame as a Blade as there's no value using Fed's name to promote the blade line with so many other ATP / WTA users already doing a good job in that respect.

Wilson will surely use Fed's name to promote a new line of players spec frames that will launch later in the year.

ProStaff 98? If there's an extended version, all my money for it. Unless the new AeroStorms are convincing that is.

Is anyone watching the match now? Well it is just the warmup, but he is using the blacked out frame of course. Curious to see how much more power he will get..

If fed wants to continue to use this frame, He might need longer adjustment period. So far, I think the racket is not for him... Backhands slices floating too high. Wilson should make new racket for fed.
I don't know Wilson can create a racket which will be similar feels like PS 90 (slightly thicker beam) and just more power and bigger head size version.

Down a break.. he looks out of sorts ... I would be surprised if he didn't smash the racket.. We should compile a list of what else he should consider: to paraphrase the post above, in no order of preference.

1- even bigger frame
2- longer frame (28 in?)
3- switch to two handed backhand
4- get divorce lawyer
5- eat more mustard
6- read Harry Potter again
7- fire Anacone
8- grow mustache

He is looking much better now. Definately seems to be swinging a little awkwardly but I think he is getting a more spin and height.

Slice does not look nearly as sharp.

If... Dimitrov won't change his equipment too! :)
Exactly what I was thinking haha, any coincidence that Dimitrov has the same sponsors and style as Federer? now he's got himself in a mess Fed has got a new racquet, and all that stuff about how he doesn't want to be called baby Federer anymore... he shouldn't have copied the game style and the sponsors/racquet if he didn't want that.

I wonder if today's match is the first time since Fed vs Pete that BreakPoint has rooted so hard for Fed to lose...

honestly all I can do is hope that this racquet brings the best out of Roger. The Blade is more of a tweener so that should help in to be get a bit more power and spin on the ball.

I was at Centre Court live for the 2nd Round Defeat to Stakhovsky and in all wings Federer was just being outpowered. There was nothing exactly Fed did wrong he just didn't have the same power, spin and precision that Stakhovsky had. My guess is this racquet will help him, lets hope for a US open title!

Match just ended and I missed most of it until the final game.

What are you thoughts on the following?
Serve speed:
Forehand consistency/accuracy:
Backhand consistency
Volleys:
Overall feel:

In a first glance, it looks like Fed and depth reunited. On the other hand, Roger would be expected to beat Brands with the PS90 as well. So, who knows...
