Federer's decision not to play Davis Cup could effect his eligibility for the 2020 Olympics

Luthi said no final decision had been made on whether he will play in Tokyo.

"It's possible but it's not a goal," Luthi said. "He will leave it open a little bit. I don't know how it works with (Olympic) wildcards. They used to give them to the small countries, but I think if he said he wanted to play...."


So Luthi hopes Federer will be given preferential treatment, as usual, even if under the rules he won't qualify for the Olympics.
 
I wonder why people start threads lacking essential info? Fed will get an exemption from playing Davis Cup, this has been well known and discussed in the media for several years.

Sounds like he's given up on the possibility of ever winning the Olympics. Way might be clear for Djokovic now.
