Federer's grace: to all the non-belivers and jealous/envious lot:

He's Superman..

We are lucky to have him at the top of our sport. Has there ever been a better representative/role model at the very top of the game than Federer?

"superman" may be excessive. remember, superman would never have a record IN HIS PRIME of 3-6 against someone, one of those on hard court. just a little perspective.

Superman as in everything that he does.

He manages to win virtually every tournament he enters, whilst still getting on really well with all the players. He does work for UNICEF, he has his own charity, he speaks 3 languages, he was voted one of the sexiest men etc..

Roger Federer is SuperMAN, he is the model man. A losing record against monkey boy doesn't take away anything from what he has done in tennis or any work that he has done outside the game.

Calling Nadal a monkey boy diminishes Fed in and of itself. Rafa has been very gracious both in victory and defeat, and he is well respected for that; As great a human being Fed is, he is also a bit of a sissy, so we are lucky to have someone like Rafa to counterbalance that :)

When did Federer call Nadal a monkey boy?

And in what way is Fed a sissy that Rafa counterbalances? Is it the aesthetically pleasing, rediculously well rounded game, with respect to the rules, compared to the unpolished game of rafa? Is it the fact that Roger actually tries to make a difference in the world and dominates a sport at the same time, while rafa remains number two at the same sport and puts forth nowhere near the charitable efforts fed does? yeah, some sissy fed is, great thing we have rafa. oh, BTW, i dont think i've ever seen fed in capri tennis shorts like a certain #2 ;) . Joking aside, I don't mind nadal, but don't call fed a sissy when he's a wonderfully well rounded man that uses his celebrity in better ways than most people who have the means.

it's a good post everyone , and he doesn't have to have winning streaks against everyone to be the best ( although i strongly think his record against nadal will very much improve in 2007) ..

and please don't turn everything into such a stupid argument , grow up ..

Federer is right up there with Bobby Orr as the greatest athlete of all time. And Bobby was just as classy. Tiger Woods does not rate in the company of these two imo. And Orr dominated hockey on one LEG!! The other leg was destroyed by doctors in the name of medicine.

Roger does genuinely care about the issues he involves himself with. He's a great example for, not only other athletes, but everyone. Of course not everyone can afford to do the things he does, but it doesn't start or end with money. Roger has a huge heart. HUGE heart. Anyone who has a problem with that lacks a heart.

Great post OP. Fed is doing a lot of good things off the court. And more than just creating a foundation and doing one annual event like many athletes in the US and doing it for the PR. It's obvious Roger is a product of good genes and parenting.

arosen, I'm still waiting too. Are you sure you aren't confusing Agassi's comment that the #1 at the time, Sampras, looked like a monkey? That one was well documented.

Any guesses on how long before this welcome2 kid gets banned? :)

It's the holiday for the rest of us Suresh, so drink up :)

I did not post this thread for silly arguments and primate references to be discussed, it's just something to shut the mouths of people who think federer acts gracefully and all nice on court but really is not such a person on the inside. Someone who visits India and doesn't go to one of the 4 major cities or the Taj Mahal but instead to some little known town (barely 2 hrs from where I live but I've myself never been there) shows a lot of class...
