Federer's matches against other top 3 players outside the slams

Do you think Federer at this stage of his career doesn't necessarily look to go all out to win matches against Djok, Murray and Nadal outside the slams? He knows these are tougher matches than against others on the ATP, and can get quite physical. Of course if he's leading, he would try win in straight sets. But if he ends up a set down, he won't necessarily put in the same amount of effort as in slams that it would take to come back and win the next two sets. Matches that come to mind are Rome '12 vs Djok and Shanghai '12 vs Murray. Does he look to just work the strategy or even make some psychological points in these matches if he ends up a set down?

he always gives 100%....unless when he lose, then its because he doesnt care (not a slam)...or injured....or tired...or something (according to **** logic)

If he's playing one of the top three, he's in at least the semifinals, so I don't see the purpose in attempting to conserve energy at that stage.
