maybe we should give the op a break. the invention of digital cameras has made posting pics on the internet very labourous and difficult. DAMN YOU TECHNOLOGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, im starting to lose faith in this thread. granted, its been only like a day, but the optimism just isnt there for me now.

LOL--Man, ease up, y’all--give the guy 24 hrs, at least!

If he’s working in the stringing room at the Open, they’re probably just a little bit busy there right now, what with 256 players, plus qualies (less those who get their stringing done elsewhere), all wanting their racquets done asap each day for their practices!

actually the ones on fed's stick look curved as sampras' do, only that part of the throat in the k90 is black and it blends in with fed's shirt so it is difficult to tell from that picture.
Do you own both a K90 and a PS 6.0 85? If so, you wouldn't say that and you would know exactly what I'm talking about. The throats are very different. On the K90, the angle is "cut out" of the frame (indented). On the PS 6.0, nothing is cut out, it's just flat with a curve, no angle.

Feds frame /beam looks to be thicker than the PS85. Fed/Sampras used to throw racquets in the crowd after a big win, but they stopped doing that. IT was more earlier in their careers.

Fed does play with K90 but customized for him. Search the threads and you find several evidencies of that...

He could totally take a pic of a slightly used k6.1 with fed's strings and the W logo and everyone will start to eblieve that Fed uses a genuine stock K6.1

yes, i think it was jura who did a nice review of fed's racquet. including pics of fed's stick side by side with a stock k90.

Another thread on stringing at the USO, included this link to a WSJ article from today.

FWIW, see the Federer tidbit at the bottom where, “Ron Rocchi of Wilson notes that the K Factor racket on sale in stores is all-but-identical to the one used by Roger Federer.”

Yes, here is is:

"Closing the Gap: As recreational players move away from wide-body, super-light rackets, many pros are retreating from skinny frames in battle-ax weights. Ron Rocchi of Wilson notes that the K Factor racket on sale in stores is all-but-identical to the one used by Roger Federer."

I also found this to be interesting from that WSJ article:

RACKET TECH CLIENTS PRICES

Warren Bosworth, Bosworth Tennis, Boca Raton, Fla., (561) 241-9966 Martina Navratilova, Monica Seles, Patrick Rafter, Nadia Petrova $25 to $150

Nate Ferguson, Priority One, Tampa, Fla., (813) 715-6411 Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Pete Sampras $50 to $200

Peter Gabriel, Racket Science, Wesley Chapel, Fla. (813) 949-4168 James Blake, Paul Goldstein $50 to $100

Roman Prokes, **** Tennis, New York, (212) 980-1555 Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi $50 to $200

So that's what he's been up to since he left Genesis and retired from his solo rock n' roll career. ;)

Sorry, BP is wrong on this one. Look at the nSix-One Tour 90 for a better idea. That white curved part at the throat is similar to Sampras's, but the red part is sharply angled. Look closely at Pete's racket, since the whole thing is black, you can't see the sharp angle. On Federer's racket, there is a little curve black material between the sharply angled white part, but it blends in to Federer's shirt as another poster stated.

That curved part is not part of the beam and is not a full 17/18 mm. If it were not there, part of a grommet tubing would be visible, and hiding the grommet tube is most likely the only reason the curved part is there.

I'm surprised BP, it's very noticeable in the nSix-One tour that the curved and sharply angled parts are both there.

have you ever held a k90/n90 next to a ps85? if you did, you'd know that the throats are different

I completely disagree that you can find a similar racquet in stores. The sponsored pros have custom one off racquets if the wish. They can have the balance completely different than what is in the stores even though the racquet looks the same

I certainly hope this is true, but the record's not good. We get these from time to time, but pictures hardly ever come through.

You are so wrong on this, I don't know where to begin. I play with the nSix-One Tour 90 and own K90's and PS 6.0 95 and have owned PS 6.0 85's, so I ought to know.

On Federer's racquet, the angles are indented, cut out from the graphite. This is the shape of the mold. It is NOT flat in these two areas as it is on the PS 6.0 85/95. This means it has to be a different mold.

Do you see angled cutouts that are indented on this PS 6.0 85? It is flat and curved in the shape of a semi-circle, NOT a sharp indented angle.

60-big.jpg

Here's a pic of the Jack Kramer Staff which comes from the same mold as the PS 6.0 85. You can see the throat better since the color is not balck but lighter. Note the difference between the shape of the throat from this mold versus the shape of the throat from Federer's K90/nCode 90/PS Tour 90 mold.

Hey..I have not had a chance to post pix..and in due time I will. I apologize while I know there are many skeptics..and frankly i could care less. I work 14 hour days as the tournament has been backed upbecause of rain, and i am in player operations, which is directly next door to the stringing room. For anyone else who has been inside of ashe stadium, they know what i am talking about. I talked with the guy who collects all racquets from the players to string, and he told me that Fed is using a racquet of the same materials as Sampras' Pro Staff, except it is 100% 90 square inches. While I am no expert on racquet technology, this is all I know. I also know Nadal is using a AeroPro Drive..not the new cortex...I will take pix and let u know about other specs of racquets..is there anyone in particular this message board is interested in. And Fed has a 4 3/8 regular grip (not leather), underneath a wilson white overgrip....

I wonder how a guy who collects racquets for stringing would know that for sure? I think you pretty much have to be a Wilson racquet design engineer or be there in the factory in China when they actually make his racquet to know the exact composition of his racquet.

I stand corrected. My apologies.

TW's picture of the PS 85 isn't too clear on my screen, and it looked like the rounded part was tapered, as it is on the nSix-one and the kSix-One.

Thanks Misiti! I can't wait to see pics. Hey you could tell some stories as well. I'm sure you have some funny ones. :)

I think most people are interested in the top players. So anyone info on those in the top 20 will be nice. I'm interested in Djokovic personally.

BP, give it a rest please. We know where you stand on this issue. Any thread that has a hint of what does Federer play with, you are on there. I think you are right after reading a few of your posts but let the OP post some pics and then we'll discuss it. :)

Good thing the internet wasn't around in the 80s, or we'd still be talking about whether the pros actually switched to graphite or were just using wooden racquets in the shape and size of graphite ones.

So Misiti99, am I to understand you are in the PR department for the US Open. That being the case, I can see Federer giving you a racquet. Personally I really don't care to see more pictures of Federer's racquet. What's that going to prove, I have seen plenty of them, even on this thread (and it looks identical to a K90). I would be more interested in strings and tension for this years' Open.

Yes, I'm waiting for the pics as well. But pics are not going to tell us what the material composition of Federer's racquet is, which has been the debate here from day one. That's why I was wondering how the guy that collects racquets happens to know for sure what materials are used in Federer's racquet? Did Federer himself tell him? Maybe, maybe not.

We know what Federer's racquet looks like. There are millions of pics on the web of him holding his racquet. Thus, I'm not really sure what seeing these pics will accomplish. We'll all look at them and say - "Yup, that sure looks like Federer's racquet alright", just as we've seen a million times before. I think the truly valuable information is if he hit with Federer's racquet side-by-side with a retail K90 strung with the same strings at the same tension and with the two racquets weighted and balanced identically and then see if there's any perceived differences in feel. Either that or cut them both apart and bring it to a chemist to put them under a microscope. ;)

wait a couple more days, then we call this guy's bluff.

50% of this board would say its fake anyways. 40% would insist its a PS 6.0 painted. 9% would state they are not interested but think Federer still has a paint job. and 1% would look at it and then endlessly debate that it couldn't be what Federer plays with anyways because he probably doesn't even "use a wilson".

Good points. I think we should take them to a chemist and let him tell us. :)

that racquet is worth a lot of money.

a seller wants $800 for this nCode 6.1 on the big auction site:
item number = 150152960457

An actual Federer racquet should sell for more.

I know what you are saying about Federer's racquet having grooves in the throat as I like to say. I found some photos of Federer when he first switched to his Tour 90 mold racquet in the middle of 2002. The racquet has a paint job of the Hyper Pro Staff 6.0 and with the red paint in the throat you can see the groove better.

I truly believe that the mold of the racquet that Federer has been using for the last 5 years Wilson is selling to the consumer with the Ksix-one Tour 90 finally. Now whether or not Federer's layup is being sold in the consumer Ksix-one Tour 90 I don't know but it is the same mold as Federer's racquet.

for this one, he has 5 strings at 3 & 9 oclock, so it's more of a P.S tour 90 if you count it rather than 4 strings for k factor 90

Yes, that is a PS Tour 90 with a HPS 6.0 Tour 95 paintjob over it. This is when Federer first got the PS Tour 90 in the middle of 2002. He did not switch over to the retail black paintjob until the spring of 2003.

The PS Tour 90 comes from the same mold (I believe) as both the nCode 90 and the K90. All three have the same shaped throat and all three appear to come from the same mold. The throat on the retail HPS 6.0 Tour 95 is different and is the same as the throat on the PS 6.0 95 Original as they both come from the same mold.

Also note the dense string pattern in the center of the racquet in both of the pics above of the PS Tour 90 (with red HPS 6.0 Tour 95 paintjob). 5 crosses at the PWS instead of 4. This was before Federer asked Wilson to custom drill the frames for him for wider string spacing in the center. That happened only after he had been using the retail black PS Tour 90 paintjob for a while but before he switched to the red and white nCode 90 paintjob.

But they could both still be the exact same racquet from the same mold, just drilled differently after they come out of the mold.

That is what I think. I was just trying to show the grooves in the throat and that it is the same mold Federer uses today and that is being sold with the Ksix-one Tour 90. Changing the drill pattern is no big deal. Look at Tecnifibre they offer racquets out of the same mold with different drill patterns.

I think you pretty much have to be a Wilson racquet design engineer or be there in the factory in China when they actually make his racquet to know the exact composition of his racquet.

Fully agree.

One could cut it and analyze it too. Again, not straightforward.

That doesn't look like Federer's signature
What does someone's signature look like? My fast and lazy signature looks nothing like my slow and careful signature -- except maybe to a handwriting expert with a magnifying glass.

In any event, the signature is real, well, a real facsimile anyway. I doubt Federer sat down and hand-signed all 2,000 of them. It is from an official Wilson of Japan product -- http://wilson-ncode.jp/products/nsix1_tour_federer_page1.html

You can see the exact same facsimile signature on the racket itself there, and I doubt Wilson would forge a signature:

Who caries what Federer plays with! All you guys need to get a life and actually get out there and play. Or, failing that, donate your seemingly "endless extra time' to improving the world in some way.
