Novak says - (he’s repeated this) - that he wants Roger Federer’s slam record/weeks @ #1 record. Those are his publicly confessed “professional goals”.

So the average Fedfan wants next GEN to do really well but they're insulating themselves by saying their garbage in case Nadal and Djokovic continue to clean up. Nadal and Djokovic fans want the players competitive but not too competitive.
Tim running the tables probably causes all sorts of problems for all the camps and it would be wonderful.
if Tim cleans up does that suddenly make the golden age of the big three a weaker era? Fedies probably ok with that too.

I don’t like how public Novak is about Fed’s records - even the implicit ignoring of Rafa. As if Nadal weren’t on the verge of become the slam leader for possibly a long time to come given his RG AND his USO performances.
So it just seems a bit out of the old arrogantererer playbook to me.
I’d like to see Thiem throw everyone into a tizzy by interrupting the coronation.

If Thiem doesn't win RG, as is most likely, he can't become #1 (realistically) until at least 2021 Wimbledon.
If Thiem does somehow manage to win RG, he'll be the real #1 this year regardless of covid rankings.

You're getting things confused. IF NextGen does well, as in ATG-level well, then they will basically prevent Fedalovic from winning any slams except the odd Fedalovic flukes. Or are you suggesting that young-Fedalovic wouldn't mop the floor with their current ancient 33-39 year old selves? Let's hope Thiem wins 1-2 of the next 4 slams so that the NextGens can start to believe and win 1-3 of the slams that Thiem doesn't win. THEN The Diamond Age will be upon us, and no sooner.

Federer was coming back from injury after 6 months (wim 2016). no warmup tournament either.
And that would be a draw of 5 top 10 in a row for the slam (ended up being 4 in total)
Federer was "only" 4-2 vs nishi before AO 17 (now 8-3)
Nishi and wawrinka matches were ownages ?
nishi went like 4-0 up in the 1st set and the match went 5 sets.
wawrinka match also went 5 sets. Federer faced BPs (2?) first in the 5th and barely saved one BP when Wawrinka hit a fierce return.

Used sense and had Fed going to final. His form was quite promising at Hopman Cup.
Fed has never lost to Wawa on hard courts. Sure Ninja goated against him too, but these things happen. Murray and Bendy’s form were pretty so-so starting the year; Novak lol.

Murray-djokovic had a pretty well contested final in Doha that Djokovic eked out. How was Murray's form so-so starting the year ?
Considering Murray's win in YEC 16 (which capped off his 16 indoor season), Murray-Djokovic were the clear 2 favorites for the AO.

He was pretty shaky in that match compared to his run in 2016, plus Nole’s general level was dubious. Eye testing matches is tricky because a poor form opponent can make a player look good. See Nole Rome 2017 and subsequent face plants.
Pretty sure Fed lost to Zed Hopman that year, but both looked good. Zedly had some infamous tangles with Rafa that year when he had a 2nd serve, but first serve not as great. Rolled Nole in Rome lol.
