Winning a tournament or two each year and remaining even remotely consistent in majors will keep him in the top 10 until retirement.
Maybe for another year or two. The top 7 has not looked this competitive in years with Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Thiem, and Zverev sitting on the big 3’s tails. But if none of those guys can take the next step, then Fed will probably retire with white hair and a top 5 rating lol.till he is 67?
Great music oriented thread poll. I’m going for Bryan Adams but greatgrandpapaerer must be on top of his game at age 88 to keep it up until then! Will 2020 be the year?
Or will his major in minors to stay in the company of Bautista-Agut and Berrettini even longer?
I know it’s almost a ban worthy exercise to deal with mathematics logically but it’s a virtual lock for fedr to wind up top 10 at YE 2020 if he simply defends his slam points from 2019 (4R, SF, F and QF). Monfils is current #10 at 2530 points. fedr earned 2490. Just enter a handful of M1Ks with 1R byes and it’s a done deal, even without improving his 180 points at AO20.
Federer would've had a great chance of ending 2019 as the YE #1 IF he converted one of the championship points at Wimbledon.
Please, it's been said too many times!

That's the first time I said it and that too was intended to make a point about rankings.
Federer has a much higher chance of being no.1 than going out of top 10(heck top-5)
Lol the comments on the first page are gold
#10 is worth around 2500 ATP points.Winning a tournament or two each year and remaining even remotely consistent in majors will keep him in the top 10 until retirement.

Only if he sustains a significant injury. Roger doesn't even have to play a full schedule or win a tournament and he'll stay in the top 10. Monfils is currently ranked #10 and Goffin is at #11. The drop off from the Big 3 to those ranked 8-12 is massive, obviously. Will 2020 be the year?

never#4 now with 1000s of points to defend. Will it end this year?
No, he will stay in Top 10.#4 now with 1000s of points to defend. Will it end this year?
No, he will stay in Top 10.
Around 2500 year-end points are enough to do so, and he already has the AO SF. Now if he wins Halle and Basel, then one more Slam SF or two QF will already seal it. Even if he doesn’t win his “home” events a few mediocre showings at Slams and Masters are more than enough altogether.
Remember Zverev even qualified for London last year and now look at his results.
'Murica intensifies
Spot on prediction.Fed would do well in next 3 tournaments to continue to stay in top 8. Fear not
So... Fraud is now #5 and the guys behind him are The Diamond Age Brigade who would have won 10+ slams each in any other era.
Can the semi-retired choke artist/ shoe salesman from Basel stay within top 10 this year, too?

BTW, the current ranking system is a joke. Federer doesn't need such "help". He would trash the field in these smaller tourneys, if he is in decent form (yes, including the diamond age gen).
Also, BTW, he is selling quite comfortable shoes, so at least he is not lying to his customers.

Those are hideous establishment shoes, Fed devotee! Try something radical instead, like Lacoste or Nike![]()
I crack up every time I read about these rebels of the world (and their selfless ad faces, of course). That is why I love the hilarity that St Nicky represents: he punches on so many levels at the same time.

bingo. you love to see it folkshe punches on so many levels at the same time.
Big fat bully who takes stabs at Djokovic who in turn takes stabs at lines personell with superb acting skills.
Clearly Nick's fault. You are derailing, btw.
You know it's a weak era when even a shoe salesman can be top 5.So... Fraud is now #5 and the guys surrounding him are The Diamond Age Brigade who would have won 10+ slams each in any other era.

Two years since the thread he is still top 10.
Shall the man still be in the top 10 on his 40th birthday?
Probably. He's still closer to #4 than he is to #11.Shall the man still be in the top 10 on his 40th birthday?
Probably. He's still closer to #4 than he is to #11.
He's about 2,800 points ahead of #11, so if he's able to play his proposed schedule, he should still be fine -- and should have a pretty good shot at qualifying for the ATP Finals. (I dislike the word "should" and put two in one sentence -- a double-fault of writing.)
Fed will play in some town in the middle of nowhere and regain top 3 status...
