You're right. But octoroon is such a cool word that I had to use it, and I didn't know the word for 1/16, which turns out to be quintroon. So I'd say Lynette is an octoroon and maybe Fed is a quintroon.

There are lots of cool words that end in -oon, like Rangoon, Walloon, and Coley Laffoon.

Well... that's not her real hair. And she has a lot of make up and maybe surgery. I mean, I don't know if that's her nose. But Roger's nose in a woman would be something ugly.
So, yes, he can sbe the daughter of an octoroon.. I don't see anything so pure white on her.

Virtually all women dye/hiighlight their hair nowadays.

So according to this brand new "Alabama logic" that is displayed in this thread virtually all whites are octoroons :rolleyes:

Quit being sanctimonious. You are not having any serious racial discussion here. All you have done is make an absurd assumption that Lynette Federer who so far as I can see is a Boer/Afrikaner/Dutch in appearance AND background, is somehow the child of mixed-race parent or parents.

And as "evidence" you posted a picture that doesn't back-up your claims and then added that you believe she is octoroon because she's from South Africa.

That's like former president Bush allegedly claiming that he noticed there were lots of African-Americans in Africa

Im black and Im offended by such a ridiculous notion mainly because Im disturbed with the implication that his being part black would explain his athletic ability and hand eye coordination. Which when you get down to it is nothing more than the old "blacks are natural athletes cuz they dont have brains" racist tennant. Now whether or not that was the OPs ultimate assertion, I dont know.

Who's offended by that?

The only thing offensive here is the American education system which is bankrupt and failing cuz obviously the OP has no clue about how the races are spread throughout the nations of the world.

He so obviously belongs to the Yanks to whom this illustration is addressed:

The term Hybrid Vigor is not fully apt regarding 'mixed race' individuals, at least in a sociological sense because it implies intentional or forced 'cross-breeding' of two parents that would not happen naturally.

However, it is true that the more genetically distinct the parents -- generally the more healthy the offspring; including human beings and their children.

And truth be told there is only one human 'race'! Hence we (as a group basis) can all mate and have viable, fertile offspring.

Perhaps you mean ethnicities. Race is a social construct based mostly on phenotypic and some cultural differences.

this is what I am referring to. for black athletes, they are often praised for their raw natural ability, but not always assumed to be a thinking man's athlete. they are praised for their strenght, their speed, their ability to leap and jump, but never the intellect in their sport of choice. Well, not never but again, its alot of times the athleticsm that is praised over the intellect.

but a mixed athlete, ahhh, thats the best of both worlds! they get the "black athletcism" and the ability to think from the white or non black parent!

Again, Im not saying this is what the OP meant, but statements like his well....they smell of this sentiment.

Ok, I get what you're saying and largely agree...

But,

Of course there is racism with both positive and negative stereotypes. However, the hypothetical offendee and offender in this discussion both bare culpability (assuming the OP was trying to offend and that others were offended). If Federer's immediate heredity includes some native South African blood; why would that be inherently negative or positive? I don't understand the seemingly close to outrage by some to such an idea, whether it holds any merit or not.

Also, there are physical differences which can manifest themselves into different physical abilities of an individual based on what is commonly referred to as race. To deny this is just as racists as implying it. I'm not talking about cognitive, social, or cultural traits which are inherently more subjective in the analysis of ability, but numerically measurable physical attributes. It really has much more to do with the regional or geographical lineage of an individual which can account for these physical differences, i.e. their ancestors had to adapt to certain environments and therefore developed (over time) certain physical characteristics.

The paranoia and neurotic nature of the responses in this thread are ridiculous and not only that, they are angering and irritating. There are even underhanded accusations for intentions for people whom they believe somehow are being underhanded themselves. Regardless of truth, the whole behaviour inside this thread is sickening.

Oh sheesh.... I have no problems with Fed being of African or Scandinavian origin. Given that people love Woods, or Usain Bolt or Jordan because of the way the play the game, and not their skin tone, most people would love Fed irrespective of his ethnic origin.

You have posted a pic of Fed's mum as proof that she is black or 1/8th black ? And you expect to have a rational discussion of race or Fed's ancestry on a tennis forum based upon that 1 pic ? (even if you ignored that she looks like an average Afrikaner in the pic -- hardly conclusive one way or another).

Our notion of "race" based on skin tones or facial features are simply not scientific enough. Most scientists would just classify all of us as belonging to one species, with all theories pointing to an African origin -- that would make us all "black" in some varying degree, depending on our vague notions of what "race" we belong to.

This thread is pretty funny! Humans originated in Africa - can't find a link tho - google is hijacked by Christian theories for the first few pages.

My daughter is 3/8 Indian, 1/2 English/Scot/Norwegian/Irish, 1/8 Chinese.

Dark Blonde hair, light blue-grey eyes, light tawny skin. Looks a bit like Fed's sis actually.

But what the hell does it matter anyway? Fed is **** Sapiens - end of story.
