McEnroe: "I tried to get him on the team, he (Auger-Aliassime) passed on the Laver Cup... His team and agent wanted him to go and play Chengdu. I'm not often at a loss for words, but definitely got me on that one."

Thoughts ?

anyone with dignity shouldn't play that clown event.

Especially since Team World is totally useless.

The curious thing about the matter, depends on the point where you look at it, is that now the head to head are worth for the ATP, but, they still do not give points to the victories that the players get.
We could define the Laver Cup as a satirical comedy.

Probably not a terrible idea for a young guy still trying to get his feet on the ground and establish himself to skip such a thing. Nothing wrong with just going about your job as normal rather than seeking out the pomp of that thing when you've done nothing to really deserve it. Let's face it too, at this point it's like signing up to be part of the Washington Generals, and who the hell wants to do that?

What does he mean he's at a loss for words? Laver Cup doesn't grant points which is what most players want so they can move up in the rankings. It's a no brainer. I don't blame him plus he doesn't have to be around certain people he doesn't care for. Not everyone chooses money over everything else.

So it's just because of that player?
It's totally useless, has no competitive value, it is full of fakery and emphesized artificial emotions, someone is trying to make it legit ATP event, those who are playing it receive quite big fees (organizer is deciding who is going to participate-fertile ground for many fishy deals), and it is organized by ACTIVE player.

It was a post match interview after his match against nick at queens this year. Basically said him and nick are different people and he can’t see them being friends for that reason.
He didn't recieve question - are you friend with Nick, but was explaining how Nick was doing his "thing" more than in other matches, that he is totally different person than him and that's why he couldn't be friend with him.

Correct. I didn’t say otherwise

I wish Rafa skipped the Laver Cup too but he's become too soft with Federer these days, no wonder the amount of L's he's taken over the last few years.

Bad decision of Nadal.
But he doesn't surprise me knowing his peculiar relationship with Federer.
And he will also play an exhibition with the Swiss next February in South Africa, where the attendance record in a tennis match will be broken.

Can anyone explain to me why some people on the forum are so salty about the Laver Cup?
Because there's really no point to it. The teams are so hilariously unbalanced that the outcome is a given. I wouldn't be so opposed to it if they had 2 legends (Borg and Mac) get to draft their teams. It would start like any match, do a coin toss and whoever wins gets the first pick or gets to pick the 1st match up and vice versa (kind of like do you want to serve or which side do you want to start on).

It also doesn't help that it's in limbo since it's an exo, but it's also an official ATP evet. The retroactive official matches just add insult to injury.

He's the youngest of the bunch. Needs regular tournaments under his belt.

I'm sure he respects the LC just because of his nature.

I like him a lot too! Much more than for example Shapo. Really hope he can do well. Maybe choices like this, doing his own thing, will do him well.
