Female players (if there are any)... your racquet/equipment?

First off, I would like to ask ARE THERE ANY FEMALE PLAYERS ON TT? Seeing how almost every TT member is a male makes me feel so alone...

With that said, what equipment (racket, string & tension, overgrip, vibration dampener, shoes, bag, etc.) do you girlies use? I'd like some female perspectives here... something I can relate to.

Don't get me wrong, all you men are great ;)

My equipment:
Racket: Dunlop Aerogel 4D 300 Tour w/ 3 grams lead at 12
String: MSV Focus Hex 1.18 mm mains @ 52lbs, Tecnifibre Multifeel 17 @ 54 lbs
Dampener: Wilson Vibrafun (Atom)
Overgrip: Yonex Supergrap in white or pink
Shoes: Nike City Court IV
Bag: Babolat Team Bag 2009 Blue 9-pack

awww dont feel so alone babe :)

I hear good things about ur frame. Probably a little too light for me tho. And ur hybrid setup looks interesting. As soon as my arm is 100% I will be experimenting with some poly/multi hybrid setups.

i'm a guy btw and apologize that i couldnt give a female perspective.

It's okay, and thanks for your post :)

Give my hybrid a try... really easy on the arm. Take it from someone who had trouble with a multi strung at 60 on a PDGT.

So there really are no girls here... interesting! I don't see many women playing tennis where I play anyway.

not many girls , and not many girls that seem like a good player like u.
are u someplace warm? i cant wait till spring.

I have a feeling, that very very very few females are into tennis equipment - they prefer to be in the other sub forums - Player talk and odd & ends.

They just don't seem to care about what racquet, grip and strings they use - for some strange reason

They DO seem to care about what kind of make up brands, clothing brands, perfume and nail polish brands they use - but tennis gear is just not for the females (besides you and some other rare ladies out there)

My wife uses Head Youtek Speed Lites w/matching Head Airflow bag. The lightweight racquet is perfect for her swing style at this point. She going to be moving to the regular 16x19 Youtek Speed shortly.

BTW, her Head Airflow bag is one of the best-designed bags I've seen...

My fiance took over my MGPrestige Mids... Had to take off the lead and silicone from the handle... but she's loving them.. Doesn't care about her strings,clothes,shoes,bags... etc. etc.--- she hates anything PINK !!!!

BTW-- She was a top junior player here in Greece... but then stopped growing in her early teens... her competition did not. She routinely hands me a whoopin... that's ok though... she lets me win on my nameday and birthday... ;)

wow everything is from a different manufacturer. is that on purpose?

wow everything is from a different manufacturer. is that on purpose?

Haha no, but I didn't notice that till you pointed it out :)

I used to play with a PDGT (which I still have) so I got a Babolat bag to match with it.

Tried using stuff from the same manufacturer... just didn't like what they had to offer.

And thanks for posting crystal_clear! I don't feel so alone anymore. Wow, grip size 4 1/8? That's pretty small... I use a 4 1/4 with a thicker replacement grip (Prince Resi Soft) and an overgrip... so it's about 4 3/8... maybe a bit smaller.

Anyone else? Feel free to show off whatever you use, your NTRP rating, your favorite surface, shot, etc.

ClubHoUno, I definitely agree with you on the equipment thing. My friends don't seem to care what they use either. Any racket with strings and a grip will work for them. OTO, clothes, hair, makeup, etc are VERY important, just as you said.

Thanks all others for posting what your wives use! :D

I am a tennis-pro and although I am sponsored by Babolat and teach using a pure storm GT,I play with a Wilson hyper pro staff 5.0 grip 4 1/4 with hybrid string @ 58/60.
I use PHT 17g/ VS 17g
Gamma Infinity 18g
Luxilon ace @ 53
My favorite over grip is wilson pro but I also like the Babolat VS original.

My Babolat pure storm GT is 4 1/8 cause Babolat's grips run smaller.

I wear propulse 2 or Babolat all court reverse.
My apparel is mostly Nike or Adidas.

OOOOOOPS!!!!!!!
I meant to say that Babolat's grips run bigger and therefore, I use 4 1/8 when using a Babolat racquet.

Your gear and set up makes me want to post. Such a good choice of weapon :)

Racket: Dunlop Aerogel 4D 300 T
String: Kirschbaum PL II 1.15 - 52/54
Dampener: Wilson smiley face
Shoes: Adidas barricade V
Overgrip: Yonex Supergrap Grey
Bags: Dunlop Aerogel 4D 3rackets & Wilson Kfactor Red Backpack

You are right. I have only one nCode n3 (two will be ideal.) as I think technique is the most important while many male players think they would play like Federer if they use Federer’s racket.

I do think looking good is important on court.

I found smaller grip is good for control, especially serve and volley. I am looking for size 4.0 but no luck with Wilson. Maybe I will switch to Babolat as Babolate has 4.0 grip. May I send a request to Wilson to make size 4 grip?

How does the PL II 1.15 play on the 300 Tour? I've been thinking about playing with this string but am not sure how soft/powerful/crisp it is. Any comments? Also, do you add any lead? I find that I cannot play with this racket if there is no lead at 12.

crystal_clear, Babolat rackets are great IMO. They feel very solid. I would still be using them if I didn't have arm problems. It's the stiffness that draws me away from them. The PDGT has been giving me arm problems even when strung with a multi. The Pure Storm line is probably a better option if you're looking for a Babolat racket... more control and less arm problems. From what I've heard, it's a very comfortable racquet with a solid response.

Im a female player, very interested in tennis equipment and I string rackets.

Racket: Becker V1 MP (may be looking for a change)
String: Klip Legend 17 Nat Gut or Pacific Classic 17 Nat Gut
Shoes: KSwiss Stabilor
Overgrip: Yonex Supergrap
Bag: Dunlop Aerogel

There are some female stringers who post a lot in the Strings & Stringing forum. There are also some other females who regularly post all over the boards. Topaz and Cindy post all the time.

PLII plays great on 300T, you can feel the ball pocketing on the strings, very crisp and perfect power for me. One thing I notice though, it needs some break-in time about 2 hrs of play I reckon. I have tried full bed on BAM 52/54, full-bed multi X1 -18g at 60. I much prefer PLII than BAM. Full bed of multi was so soft n springy. I should try to hybrid them the next time. Also, I would like to try on MSV HEX 1.10/1.18 set up as well.

I don't have any lead on my 300T. I have been meaning to try it out but havent gotten a chance yet. Plus, my 6 yr and 3 yr old always go thru my tennis bag and play with my racket all the time despite telling them not to. So, the thought of lead n young kids scares me a bit.

Can you describe the difference between no lead n lead up? Im very interested in knowing the difference.

I'm interested in hybriding PL II on the mains and Multifeel on the crosses. I really like my setup with Focus Hex 1.18/Multifeel 17 though. Considering buying a reel of Focus Hex.

I could see where lead would be a concern for your kids... you could try covering the lead with a layer of electrical tape as a precaution. As long as they don't peel off the tape, you should be fine.

Lead at 12 is a must for me... it's a whole different racket. I've tried putting lead at 3 and 9, 2 and 10... nothing compared to the stability of 3 grams at 12. The sweetspot is enlarged and it is much more stable. I usually hit a little higher than the sweetspot, so it feels very unstable without the lead. With 3 grams at 12, there is less shock transmitted to my arm on mishits, and there is more power. Less maneuverability, but I'm still able to manage (5 '5", 130 lbs). My groundstrokes are more penetrating from the baseline due to the lead as well.

Basically, for me, no lead makes it more manuverable, but it feels unstable when you do not hit the sweetspot. There is also less power and more control. With lead at 12, the sweetspot is higher, more power, and much more stability. Lead makes the racket more solid IMO.

We are all players, male or female makes no difference. If you love the game, and play. Don't feel alone due to sexual orientation, feel alone if you never play the game. One of the great dilemmas in life: a player who cannot play, vs. a player who will not play the game.

any of you ladies, interested in trying out a BIG BANGER???!!!

haha sorry, i just couldnt resist
with that 69 thread my mind is in the gutter...

they can demo my PRO STAFF any day...

cris- do you work at obrf? in westmont?

Yes Indeed... just a little lead ie 2-3g at the tip (12) affects swingweight rather significantly imo. Wondering if you've actually measured the difference vs. stock SW. A 4D200 demo I had also felt like it could have used some extra stiffness at 12. BTW my stick has no lack of stiffness at the tip. oops did i do it again :)

There must be an equation to measure SW after adding lead... it'd be too much for most of us to go out and buy a balance board just to measure how HH or HL a racket is.

Adding 3 grams at 12 definitely makes the racket feel heavier. My PDGT is 11.2 oz strung and 4 pts head light, with a SW of 327. I added 4 g of lead at 2 and 10 (two grams at 2, two grams at 10). My 300 Tour is 11.3 oz strung and 5 pts head light with a SW of 318. 3 grams of lead at 12.

300 Tour feels much, much heavier than the leaded up PDGT for some reason. I guess placing lead at 12 vs lead at 2 & 10 really makes a huge impact

makes it more polarized (dont i sound so smart)

ya i have played around with lead on my radical and my brief hit with the pure storm ltd. i'm sure theres some post with an equation or in TWU. i'll look it up when i get a chance.

WOW, you are a serious player. I am pretty new to tennis. How long have you been playing tennis? -Tina

No, I work in Orlando-Fla.

Crystal-Clear,
Wilson racquets do have 4.0 grips, but you would have to look in their catalogue to know which frames are offered.
Same goes for Babolat.
You should demo the new Babolats.
I was very impressed with the new aero storm GT line.

Thanks~ I meant Babolat Drive Z Lite. Does it has the same stiffness as PDGT? I prefer arm friendly rackets.

It is almost as stiff as the PDGT. Drive Z Lite is 68 RA while the PDGT is 70 RA. Not a big difference will be felt. If you are looking for an arm friendly racket, a stiffness rating around 62-65 should be good. That way, it will feel comfortable and you won't lose as much power. Babolat racquets tend to be very stiff, except for the Pure Storm series. Check out the regular Pure Storm (11 oz strung, I believe) or try a Head Youtek Radical Lite.

The new Aero rackets aren't as arm friendly either. You won't find an Aero racket that is under 67 RA.

Thanks cris~ I found Wilson K Factor KThree.FX (nCode n3 discontinued? ) has grip size 4 in the catalogue. To my surprise the stiffness is only 37! AeroPro Lite GT. stiffness is 72. I am wondering what stiffness does to the racket and to the arm.

never seen or heard of k61 lite. what's the weight of the racquet? i'm guessing it's very similar to the new BLX 6.1 lite?

Thanks for the info. 11 oz strung racket seems a little bit heavy to me as my current racket is under 10 oz.

if u dont have a sense of humor and cant make light of string selection then thats ur problem... can u like make an interesting or useful comment.

Thanks for the info. 11 oz strung racket seems a little bit heavy to me as my current racket is under 10 oz.

The Youtek Radical Lite might be better for you then. 9.6 oz strung.

Head Size:
105 sq. in. / 677.42 sq. cm.

Strung Weight: 9.6oz / 272.16g

String Tension: 52-62 pounds

I would think that you could grow into this racket. Very arm friendly. If you find that you don't have enough power, simply lower the string tension. As you seek more control from your racket, string at a higher tension. If you like a smaller grip size, 4 1/8 should be good. I have found that Head grip sizes are smaller than some other companies. If you still think the 4 1/8 is a little too big, try a thin replacement grip, like Babolat Skin Feel or Yonex Basic Cushion Grip.

And the KThree.FX wow. Only 37? I've never seen that before. Racquet seems very powerful though, as it is 115 sq in and the beam appears to be very thick.

A stiffer racquet transmits more shock to the arm than a flexible frame, which tends to create more elbow/wrist/shoulder problems. Stiffer frames are also more powerful. A flexible frame "flexes" more when you hit the ball and sort of dampens the shock. Flexible frames offer more control.

For me, just one hour hitting with a stiff frame strung with a multi gives me some elbow soreness.

My current nCode n3 stiffness 47 thanks to the Triad technology.
I will demo the Youtek Radical Lite later.

My old racket ncode n1 stiffness 71 and I don't have problem with that.

Perhaps I can play with different stiffness rackets.

Odd... I guess it's the Pure Drive that's really a problem with people. The way a racket is constructed may play a role, too. Material is also important... I hear GT technology makes a racket 2-4 RA stiffer.

IMO anything under 280 grams unstrung is rather unusable, and I can't see a reason for trying those weights.
Any healthy, reasonably young adult female should be able to play with something like a dunlop 500-300 series or a Head Instinct - Radical series.
Going to weights under 250 g is simply "misguided" unless AGE is a major factor or one has some kind of disability.
Lighter is NOT better, just like one doesn't need to play a 360 grams racket to be "macho", just like a racquet UNDER the "12 oz" barrier CAN be stable ... etc etc.

280 - 330 grams unstrung is a range where 99.9 percent of all adult tennis players on the planet should find something suitable in...regardless of their sex.
For males...I would probably go over 290...at least.
