I'm surprised there are no match threads for the Miami final...I guess everyone is certain that Ferrer will win 6-1 6-2 so this thread is pointless:twisted:

Both played great at the end of their SF matches. No "tired" excuses as both matches went 3 sets and both Ferrer and Murray had a day off.

Murray leads the h2h 6-5, Ferrer beat him in their last meeting on hard courts (2011 WTF - 6-4 7-5), Murray won their last meeting on any surface in a tight 4 setter at last years Wimbledon.

I want Ferrer to win... He's played the better tournament so far. I do think that Murray will have to bring his A-Game in order to take the title, much like he did against Gasquet.

Tough match for either player imo. Could go either way.

Contrary to popular belief, this should be a fun match. Both have a habit of playing somewhat conservatively at times (i.e., not stepping out of their comfort zone), so whoever decides to up the ante and play with more aggression and persistence will ultimately win. Obviously Murray is the better striker and can generate more power off his racket, but I don't want to see him behind the baseline, pushing for a majority of the match. Ferrer is a brick wall; it's extremely hard to get anything past him, so I'd love to see more variety for Murray. Net approaches, drop shots, serve & volleys, and basically make Ferrer feel uncomfortable on the court.

For my viewing sake, I want to see variety in this match. Murray is more capable of playing with diversity than Ferrer is, since the latter hardly ever will place a slice, a drop shot or even make a net approach. So if things get worrisome for Murray (losing the first set, for example), we all know he has more depth in his game to change things up and frustate Ferrer.

At the moment, however, Murray is looking too good here. I want Ferrer to win since he is one of my favourite players but Murray just has more to him than Ferrer. I can see it going three sets:

3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In my opinion, it is just a matter of how well murray will play. If he can keep up a certain level, ferrer has no chance at all. I mean yeah maybe ferrer picked his level up for the last year, but I don't think he is skilled enough to bother any of the top 4 if they playing their A- or top B-game.

No "Ferrer will win, you heard it here first" this time?

Murray 7-5, 6-4.

I think we'll see an A game Murray tomorrow.

He knows what's up for grabs, and he Ferrer is an opponent he knows very well.

nope... against gasquet, murray finally started playing a level of tennis that he hadn't played in this current tournament up to that point. it will be tough for ferrer after that display.

if he drops his level and plays like he did in the earlier rounds, yes, Ferrer will beat him handily. But i don't expect him to drop his level. they'll both fight for this one. you heard it here, probably not first.

Murray took control of the points a lot better against Gasquet, best I've seen him since probably the AO. He was dictating with the FH beautifully at times, even in the first set. The only shot that has been a letdown from what I've seen is the BH down the line.

i wouldn't hold the backhand down the line against him when playing against gasquet. Richard's backhand is pretty serious (heavy ball), it would be a very low % shot to go down the line against it with the backhand. probably better just to continue cross court and vary your spins/pace/depth or even going inside-in with the forehand would be a better option than down the line with the backhand.

should be an interesting match against Ferrer in terms of strategy.

Murray should be the favourite considering it's slow hard courts. However all the matches are close, on grass last year Ferrer had set points to go 2 sets to love up, on a surface that favoured Murray as well. I expect 3 tight sets with Murray prevailing, though I would love Ferrer winning his 2nd Masters title. Most likey Shanghai 2011 repeat.

One thing I know is if Murray wins, he will have to take if from Ferrer. Unlike Haas, David will not give up on a set or point for that matter.

I think the Scrappy Ferrer will claw a set but Murray showed everyone what he's capable of when he switched it on against Gasquet and i fully expect him to do the same here. Murray in 3.

Murray should be watching the video of the first set of the Haas-Ferrer match. Haas did a great job with variety there and against Djokovic.

Should be a nice match Ferrer should have the crowd support he has a great chance but it should be tight! Hopefully we get a great match!

Dale!

I didn't mean against Gasquet. I mean since the AO. That shot has been completely missing for Murray since. When he goes for it, he has missed it badly.

I like them both. So I don't mind who wins this. It will be nice of Muzza to win a Masters again, but also for Ferrer to get only his second Masters title.

Feel like it would be significant either way! A first Masters title for Murray since 2011 or a first Masterd 1000 title for Ferrer while beating one of the big 4! It should be good viewing!

The bigger question is will anyone be able to watch this match from start to finish without falling asleep?

Stop using so much hyperbole. Yes, it's not the most endearing match-up on tour, but it'll be nonetheless entertaining. At least from my perspective.

Murray will once again channel the miami heat and start off slow but pull off the win in the end

> david is a lot fitter than gasquet... murray will have to sustain
> a high level of play for longer...

Men's Health did a review of Murray's fitness regimen.

http://www.menshealth.co.uk/living/men/mh-interview-andy-murray

you're missing the point... i never questioned murray's fitness.

a key reason murray was able to beat gasquet is that richard was winded by the 2nd set. this isn't going to happen with ferrer. against ferrer, he'll have to play better tennis rather than relying on a differential in physical conditioning.

I'd say you've plenty of time to do the race, get showered and in front of a TV.

PS Wave at the cameras for me when you pass the second bridge, please.

Regardless of the boat race, let's hope Muzza sticks to his plan of high & low to David. Might take 3 sets though because ferru is a fighter and you have to innovate & invent to beat him.

Hoping for a great race this year as well with NO idiots in the water, apart from the strong ones doing the work!

PS waving is frowned upon, just wear a TW cap!

Expecting a long drawn out match hopefully Ferrer plays some shots and makes stops it's being too boring!

Ferrer will get most of the support being Spanish!

I went with Murray in three sets today, especially since this is a hard court match. Murray seems like he's in a good mindset and feeling fit. Murray has won 5 of 6 of their hard court matches, with Ferrer having won their WTF match. Ferrer has won 4 clay court encounters between them and their overall head to head record is 6-5 in favor of Murray.

I'll go one further, look out for one of these swooping over the Thames on a zip wire, carrying a carrying a giant Lindt egg:

Just of the record right before the first serve.

Poll Results: Ferrer vs Murray
Ferrer in 2 2 4.88%
Ferrer in 3 8 19.51%
Murray in 2 20 48.78%
Murray in 3 11 26.83%

They usually change during the match...

Rally ball galore! Prediction....Murray hits himself in the balls multiple times and Ferrer runs himself into the wall!
