Fila Axilus 2 Durability???

I got a pair of those cool-looking tye-dye colored Fila Axilus 2's and I was pretty satisfied with how it played. It had good traction, felt low to the ground, and was light. I felt great hitting with them for the first couple hours until I checked the outsole and there was already HEAVY SCUFFING underneath the ball of my foot as well as the sides of the outsole too. I kept playing with them on and now I've logged maybe 12 hours with the shoes and they're ready to go back to Fila with the 6-month guarantee.

All the reviews that I have seen say that the shoe is pretty durable, not Barricade level, but a good, durable shoe for its weight. That's what I don't understand because this lasted a lot less hours than even speed-oriented shoes like the Vapor 9.5 or Ubersonic line.

Anyways,

Has anyone experienced this with their Axilus's too?
or
Did I maybe get a defective shoe from Fila?
and
How is the durability for anyone else?

For me, the Axilus 2 outsole is quite durable. Less durable than the Diadora Blueshield 4, slightly more durable than KSwiss Hypercourt Supreme, much more durable than the Yonex Sonicage (just referencing other shoes I've tried in case it helps you compare). The issue for me actually is the very soft uppers...the laces and non-rubber-cage areas in particular seem like they are getting their soft and thin threads worn out quickly, and I'm not someone who slides much on the uppers of their shoes (i mostly slide out of shots on the outsoles)

I would try to take pictures and see if FILA will accept your warranty request first before going through the hassle of shipping them off..."scuffing" doesn't sound like a very strong word (in my mind that mostly means the outsole getting cosmetically marked up), and warranties are generally only honored if you have worn or ripped through the outsole and to the midsole or inner. idk what your shoes look like but it's normal for outsoles to scuff quite quickly...the concern is when they start to smooth out and wear down too quickly.

By scuffing, I mean the soles (especially around ball of foot) are smoothed out already and the toe is already ripped through after those 12 hours.

Interesting you mention this. Two friends of mine sponsored by fila on the tour rip through shoes so quick. I hope it’s something fila work on with the next launch of shoes

Yeah, I play college and I ripped through them easily. I’ll just get the 6 month warranty and switch brands until they make a new shoe. Sucks too, the shoes felt good coming out of the box.

Yeah the shoes feel great. I have some of the grass court ones for summer season.

How world you rank the cushion/shock absorption of those shoes you listed

How world you rank the cushion/shock absorption of those shoes you listed
from least to most cushioned:
  1. sonicage 2
  2. axilus 2 (though the forefoot cushioning is pretty bare; heel cushioning is quite sufficient)
  3. speed serve (recently tried, so just adding it here in case it's of interest)
  4. hypercourt supreme
  5. blueshield 4

thanks for the list. Tried the Sonicage 3 a couple nights ago and a heel landing was jarring as hell. Had high hopes for the powercushion+ .... Got an axilus 2.5 and hypercourt supreme on the way .... I absolutely was interested in the speedserve. Glad you mentioned it.

gotcha. yeah as a performance shoe, the sonicage doesn't have a lot of cushioning to stay light

to elaborate, I think the Axilus and Speed Serve heel cushioning is about the same, but the Speed Serve is slightly more comfortable in the forefoot as well.

I gave up on the supreme and the express 2. I felt pressure on the underside outside edge of my foot just behind the small toe just by standing there so as soon as I start running on the court I know as soon as I plant my foot it'll be rough. I gave up on gel res9 2e for the same reason.
Jet Mach 3 and sonicage 3 wide hurt that part my foot too... The jm3 wide version was ok. Wish I tried the SC3 Plus instead of the wide. Ultrashot 3 and courtjam control are ok too... Got high hopes for the axilus 2 and speedserve and also the solematch control

Are you a heavier or lighter player

bro I was going to be like 'how could you put the blushields last!!!? what an idiot!' then I read this part and remembered how important basic literacy skills are for my well being and mental health.
speedserve
which colorway did you get for this one? different colorways have different fits. are your own feet considered narrow, medium, or wide?

I got the speedserve in white/navy/red (toe) and white/blue but this one the midsole and tongue/collar have a tie dye effect to them. Havent tried either on court yet.
Slightly wide but more straight possibly sliglthy outflared. Tailors bunions. Noticing the bottom, outside edge of my feet hurt if the outsole of shoes are directly under there. Noticed the vapor pro2 and sonicage3 wide had narrower bases. Should've tried the sonicage3 plus instead. Didnt try the gel res9, hypercourt express2 or supreme because i felt the pressure on the side and underside even in the 2e gel res9 cause of the dynawall.
Relatively lightweight - 5'7, 160-165lbs

I cant find which speedserve colorways are from the narrower fit. Just got ones that are all mostly black with white but they dont feel less wide than other ones and i thought black was from 2023

The black+yellow and black+purple ones are 2022, while the black+white ones are from 2023. Don't shoot the messenger

Yeah according to the TW competitor based in Cincinnati, those should have a tighter upper. Anyways now that these have been discontinued, what are you moving onto now?

todo list:
Asics Gel Game 9 size 9.5
2023 Barricade size 10

Played 1.5 hours:
Hypercourt express 2 wide (feel pressure on outside of my feet and i dont know if that will give at all. its not the upper thats the problem...its the part of the outsole that comes up on the outer side) size 9 2e
Nike Vapor 9.5 Leather (feel pressure on outside of my feet but i expect the leather will loosen if i give it more of a chance; still had slight pain in heel after landing wrong) size 9
Fila speedserve black/white (not bad so far but i didnt play long enough that night to really put it to the test; did feel a little shock on one heel landing though ) size 9

The Hypercourt and the Vapor were the best feeling for my movement when i tried them. Just felt 'right' for some reason. Was moving well. The speedserve i cant really judge yet regarding movement because that night was terrible on court. I blame six shots of tequila that afternoon then i had to play a couple hours after my last shot
