Finding the right racquet

Hi I'm a sophomore in high school looking to find the right racket. I've been switching in and out of rackets since high school and i want to find the right one. I'm about a solid 3.5. I've used the babolat aero tour o.s., Head youtek mojo, head youtek prestige mid, and now i am currently using the wilson blx six.one tour. What racket would you recommend to me?

What play style are you?
How tall are you/do you want to look at extended length rackets?
Are you looking for more control or more power?
Do you have a string preference?
Do you have any existing shoulder/elbow/wrist/arm problems?

The answers to these questions will be able to help recommend some new rackets for you! :)

Fuji is on the case!!!

I'll throw another log or two on the fire, though. Help us out here, slugger. Tell us about your likes and dislikes with your current BLX (and your previous gear) along with what you're looking for in your next racquet.

We're here for you...

So far, which racket have you liked best?

i'm more of a power player i'm better at the net.
I'm about 5ft 5in i like the regular 27in rackets
i'm looking for more control even though i have maximum control with the six one
I'm not the average rich kid so i don't have the money to buy expensive strings. I usually use Gamma Monoblast 16 Red + forten sweet 16 or i go with Prince Hybrid 3D Recoil 16L/16 String
i do ont have any physical or mental problems =.=

Your looking for MORE control then the Six.One tour? Honestly I don't think your going to find more control without going to an even smaller headsize.

Right now you'll need to work on your strokes, not change rackets again. If your happy with the Six.One just keep at it, and groove it to your strokes. Up your tension if you REALLY need to have more control. It's all I can really offer. Your a 3.5 playing with a fairly demanding, control focused racket. Just work on everything until you can master he Six.One! :)

Trust me, I'm not a rich kid either, but I try my best to pay for the best strings I can buy, they can make a world of difference.

A power player doesn't define it. Ask your buds or ask yourself; do you like to get more spin? Do you attack with overwhelming speed and placement, or do you like to bash from the baseline? Do you like to come in on the net whenever possible? Do you choose to straight on kill the point with a serve and volley if needed, or do you like to serve and play it from the baseline?

But seriously, what do you mean by "more control"? Fuji is right, you can't get any more control from a Six.One. I also agree that you should stick with the Six.One and learn to get your technique down. Good technique should complement your the already high level of control from your racquet.

Alright maybe i should use a tension of 60 instead of 50 =p maybe that'll give me more control. I still have trouble hitting down the line.

Anything in the range of the prestige midsize, any of the Wilson 90s or 93 and the Dunlop 90 is not what you should be using. It might be hard to swallow but get a more playable racquet. I learned the lesson the hard way.

It seems like the control you are looking for is not what most people define as control from a racquet. My guess is you need a lighter racquet. Try out a racquet that is significantly lighter than the one you have now and see if it will give you the control you want. A lighter racquet will allow yOu to hit that down the line shot you want.

Agreed! Shanking is going to be quite prominent with such a small head size, without the long miles put in. Once I started playing with my 95, from a 102 I shanked about 4% - 5% more then normal, which is huge considering I NEVER frame the ball. Unless you are willing to put in a lot time, and work on your technique, the 90 might not be the best choice for you!

Also, the string tension jumping up by 10lbs? Not the greatest choice imo. Try a few pounds at a time. Next time you go to string, try at around 52-54. I believe you said your around 50lbs? That's pretty low considering the max is 60. 60lbs might just destroy your arm if you shank + use stiff strings on such a small frame.

ever since i have been using the blx six. one tour i haven't been shanking at all. When i was using the babolat o.s. i found my self shanking alot more. i justt broke my strings yesterday and now i just strung my racket at 60lbs i find it easier to hit with. My ground strokes were doing much better. I think the reason why i was doing bad was probably because i lost to a 13 year old.

I'm not sure how old you are, but be careful with string tensions! If your playing with gut or a comfy multi, 60lbs shouldn't be too bad, but please for the love that is all that is good, don't start playing with poly, and especially at a high tension.

I'm glad your shanking less though! A 90 inch head is going to be a great head size once you reach up to some higher ranks.
