First Lendl, now Ferrer Splits from Zverev

Not sure what to make of this with both Lendl and Ferrero stating that its off-court/professionalism and needing to listen that created the split. Now Ferrer and Zverev make a split beginning the 2021 season.

So much for improving that ELO. Oh well.

The title of the article and you are wrong, it was Juan Carlos Ferrero, not David Ferrer.

The article says: "The departures of Carlos Ferrero and Lendl both saw the tennis greats complain about Zverev’s off-court habits and training regimen."

I think Zverev would do better with an old school Hopman / Fraser / Brett / Roche kind of coach.

Someone who has worked with dozens (preferably hundreds) of players and personalities and helped them grow, rather than just someone to work on training, strokes and strategy.

Zverev's peak ELO still dates back to 2017 having won Rome and Canada beating high-elo Djokovic and Federer in the process. How funny would it be if that remained his peak ELO for life, which is quite possible with Zed's continued inconsistency. Even funnier that it is nevertheless higher than Safin's peak ELO (reached after AO 05), whay it tells about the relative strength of the two periods is left for us to decide.

Read the first 2 paragraphs:

Article states, "The former world No.3 announced he and Zverev had split, marking the third “super coach” to leave the German’s side, following Juan Carlos Ferrero and Ivan Lendl.

“I had to decide by the end of the year; I spoke to Alexander and told him that I preferred not to continue working with him in 2021,” Ferrer said.

David Ferrer did not say he had issues with Zverev.

Its Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Octo only cares about big pharma. We already had to correct her "It's not Theodore Lendl, it's Ivan." So knowing JCF's name is an insane expectation.

It’s gotta be tough working with Zverev, he doesn’t seem like he’d pay much attention to timeliness or would even like to take orders from coaches.

Once more, it might be difficult for Zverev to work with someone like Ferrer, who had a very similar CV to Zverev, the major difference being that Zverev has that CV at 23, Ferrer had it at the end of his career. He may not respect him as much as he should and might feel like Ferrer wouldn’t be taking him forward at all.

Consistently cycling through coaches is a bit of a red flag the same way a person a person who has never held a job for more than a year is a red flag. It’s a clear sign that the person is hard to work with and cannot get along within a team. Coupled with the gf controversies, yeah, I think Zverev is not going to “break through” and become a great great player (most of us already thought that). He may at some point come through with a Slam win or two unless he matures and becomes a better person soon.

Considering Ferrer only had 3 coaches across his 20yr career.... it would make sense that he would want to split from Zverev especially since his relationship with his coaches were all long term (besides José Francisco Altur just one year).

I don't think so. Many top ranked players are appreciative of the knowledge that the coach brings to their game.

Winning a grand slam is certainly not a prerequisite for being a great coach.

Just look at Sampras and Paul Annacone; Agassi and Brad Gilbert (or Darren Cahill); Federer and Peter Lundgren; and perhaps most notably Rafael Nadal and Uncle Toni.

Zverev has obvious holes in his game. He isn't going to be in contention to win a grand slam until the Big 3 retire and even then it's no guarantee.

I wonder why you constantly remind readers that parents of your beloved player worked in a pharma company.

Facing claims of abuse and violence by an ex girlfriend and then fathering a child given birth by the same ex girlfriend. Throw in pandemic risks and time away from his own family. If I was Ferrer I would also think now is not the right time.

Wait, I thought the child was from another ex?
