I just started to play tennis not a long ago. I rate my self 2.5 NTRP. I signed up for 2.5 but it move up 3.5 NTRP. I will be playing against 3.0 and 3.5 players. I’m very nervous about it. I try to withdraw but it is too late . I just want to go and have fun but I don’t think I can compete with that level yet. Any tips and encouragement would be appreciated

Just go play, have fun, and get some experience. Meet people and find someone that may want to hit with you that will help you improve. Some people suck, but most of the tennis community is friendly and encouraging to new players. You literally have nothing to lose as a new player.

Look at it this way: all of your opponents are more highly-rated than you so you aren't expected to win. That frees you up to play your game and let the chips fall where they may. You may even end up clawing out a win or two. But focus on the process [how you want to hit the ball, keeping active feet, don't be negative, etc] and not the score.

Make sure to breathe: in my first USTA league match, I was so amped up that I started mildly hyper-ventilating after chasing down a lob.

And get the contact info of everyone who is even remotely compatible to build your tennis circle. You can become pickier later.

Lastly [and firstly], enjoy yourself. Remember, this is supposed to be fun.
