I'm playing in my first tournament tomorrow, and hopefully you guys can let me know what I am forgetting to pack. I am playing both a singles and doubles event if that matters

I have been carb-loading and drinking tons of water since yesterday.

My bag contains the following
1. My two rackets.
2. Wrist band
3. Towel
4. Moleskin
5. Three water bottles
6. 2 granola bars
7. a banana
8. An extra shirt.

I think Brad Gilbert in one of his books mentioned a spare pair of socks. That may be useful if you plan on being there a while.

I would also consider

1. Hat/cap
2. Athletic tape just in case you get a minor sprain. You can also put these to cover blisters.
3. Suntan lotion
4. ibuprofen or something similar.
5. overgrip
6. Something to read or ipod- there's a lot of sitting around between matches.

everything has been accounted for...
maybe a lil notepad/pen for postmatch analysis
what you did and didnt do succesfully
what your opponents style is

helps keep track of your improvement....

honestly I dont do this but hey you sound like a serious player

are two that didn't even cross my mind. The guys I hit with on Monday nights are 3.5 - 4.5 level so I have a vague idea of what I'm up against and hope I can shake some of these nerves and play well. Heres to wishing I could scout my first round opponent

I usually pack one banana per match! And ditto on the pain killers and something to read/listen to, just in case.

Good luck!

One of those airline bottles of J.D. so if you crap out...sulk and sip.

Thankfully that wasn't necessary. There was no 3.0 tournament so in 3.5 I got a lucky draw and played a 3.0 first round winning 6-2; 6-0. The second round was a marathon against a guy with excellent ground strokes. My scouting report (buddies who used to play 3.5) said he has great form but would overhit. It turns out that he has been playing on clay most of the year and remedied that problem, but I won eventually 6-3, 4-6, 4-1 and he retired with major leg cramps. I can't remember the last match where I fought that hard for a win without tightening up (nerves) and mishitting (more than I did). It was an excellent day and my semifinal is at 8:30 AM tomorrow so I'm heading to bed.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. Oh yeah, the guy I play next won two 3.5 tournaments last year, so wish me luck.

For all day tournaments I also bring a jug that is half ice and half water, so cold water is available even late in the day. Extra socks and shirts I bring too. Sometimes two strings will break so 3 racquets are recommended.

How did you do in doubles and your other singles match????
