First year Novak ends Slamless since 2017

Shocking. That's the only way to describe 2024 for Novak. From winning 3 Majors (!) in 2023 plus the ATP finals with convincing victories over Sinneraz to winning 0 Slams in 2024. This is the first year Novak ends Slamless since his infamous 2017.

Will he comeback in 2025? One thing is for sure, if he doesn't win any Major in 2025, I don't see him playing beyond 2026. If he does win Majors in 2025, we'll see.

Djoker will hang up his racquets if he is titleless by Easter 2025. Or smash them, then announce his retirement because he's got no racquets left.

Djokovic is done in GS tournaments.

Could give Nadal 2nd thoughts on retirement......He just needs to be pain free and lots of match practice.

Honestly can't see him retiring at Laver cup or 2024 in general.

Djokovic was going for the CYGS in 2024. He's been aiming for the CYGS every year since his transformation in 2011.

So little separates these top players. When one losses a little speed, stamina, strength or a combo of all the drop off is usually quick.

he has 24 reasons not to care so I doubt it’s bothering him. Especially when he’s retiring after Wimbledon next year most likely. He got the Olympics this year so that’s all that matters. That was the missing piece.

I expect one hard push at AO and RG and that’s it

Everyone kinda knows. His focus this year was on special sauce for Olympics, which diminished his ability outside of it. His team and doctor got him what he wanted. (y)

He will play Shanghai and Paris but the question is his plan for the next year?

It is a huge shock.

Winning 12 majors in 5 years and now straight to zero ??

Probably tennis level has gone up and he is not able to keep up ?
Ever heard of a 37-year-old slowing down? No, it wasn't a shock, but was expected sooner or later!

From 2018 to 23, that was 6 years! What were Federer and Nadal's slam streaks? Chances are worse than 50-50 for Djokovic ever winning one slam again?

Was thinking earlier today that he actually played very few tournaments this year. Can't remember if he played before AO, then was on vacation till Rome or so - played one first round in IW but he didn't care, then 1 or 2 warmup tournaments before RG. There he seemed to regain a bit of focus but unfortunately he hurt his knee.

Then on grass, he played only Wimb and reached the final, not bad but got outplayed by Alcaraz. OK then but he seemed not to care...

Then yeah, the Olympics, as if it was all that mattered. Then a new break and he arrived at the USO with no warmup tourney again.

If I'm not mistaken, he's next playing Shanghai and the ATP finals but does he really care? I mean, won or lost, these tournaments will not change anything in his legacy.

The next target may be the OA... if not, where is he going to search for motivation...?

Tough.

Time hasn't come yet hopefully but he will be missed when he leaves the tour.

Still hope for #25 though.

Looks like you only came back when Djokovic lost, so need to catch up on things. 8-B

That bag was given to him by Head to celebrate his gold medal achievement and completing the full set of trophies. McEnroe was on hand to give it to him and it has his daughter's quote to her father on it.
I was on holiday for 3 weeks. Never saw a ball being struck in Canada or Cincy and only returned home last night. Granted, without Rafa in the mix, I don't pay as much attention to tennis tournamnets.

In his 30s, Nadal won at least one GS title from 2017 to 2022 with the exception of the 2021 season, in which Djokovic prevented him from doing so by defeating him in the memorable Roland Garros semi-final that year.

I think that Djoker had some kind of abdominal sprain. I don't buy that his serving was that bad while being 100% healthy. Djoker still raced around the court like a dragster. But his serve was so bad, that Schwartzman was embarrassed.

I'm still not ruling him out. I think that when he gets his serves back up to speed, then he can still snag another slam title(maybe Wimbledon). But he'll need some help with the draw, like Tiafoe closing the deal against an erratic Alcaraz at Wimbledon(was 2 points away this year).

Nadal never had his serve back after W 2022. Let's see if Novak can recover it.

You're right that W 2025 is THE tournament for Novak along with the AO 2025. Even at RG 2025 I give him more chances than at the USO 2025. If Novak doesn't win any of these 3 (AO 2025, RG 2025 or W 2025), I'd personally find it difficult imagining him winning more Slams. Let's grab the popcorn and wait.

no he didn't care. he won gold and he is still celebrating with it by sleeping with it on his neck eveyr night
So i wonder how he feels about achieving what Nadal did 14 years later. If what you are saying is true, it is a bizarre mindset if you think about it, as he is effectively massively talking up a rival.

That Gold medal was a huge deal. Its nice, and long overdue, the Olympics have now got the status in tennis they deserve.
